This is a great mouse once you get used to it. It relieves a lot of wrist pain. I've had mine for well over a year now and am very pleased with it.

Great design and performance in a product that I've used for almost 10 years. I have always found mice to be the lamest pointing device imaginable. Scraping and scratching the little beasts around seem the antithesis of high tech. Enter this THUMB DRIVEN TrackMan. The device sits still while infinitessimally small moves of your thumb do the job quite nicely. NO WRIST STRAIN OR PAIN! Configure the buttons and wheel to your own needs and throw your old mice to the cats. The only better product (which Logitech pulled) was the keyboard with trackball and buttons built in below the space bar. Logitech: please bring it back!

Great mouse, I've been using it for about 3 years now. It helps with the extensive gaming time played, sometimes reaching 8-12 hours at a time! No wrist pain and works flawlessly. Easily cleanable, a plus for gamers who may need to clean it every day.

Excellent trackball, eliminated hand/wrist pain

I tried many different mice and trackballs over the years but found that all eventually caused hand and wrist pain during periods of heavy use. I began using the Trackman about three years ago and have not had any pain in my wrist or hand since then. I found the switch to using my thumb on the ball easy to do and now use almost the highest tracking setting available (mouse movement relative to motion of the trackball) and can still easily grab selection corners for resizing in QuarkXPress, FileMaker Pro and elsewhere.
Someone complained in another review that you had to disassemble the unit to clean it but that it simply untrue. It takes about 30 seconds to pop the ball out, wipe the little bits of accumulated crud off the three bearings with a pencil eraser and pop the ball back in. For good measure, I find that polishing the ball with my shirt also helps it run smoother. It's been in continuous use for about three years and shows no sign of wear.
My main complaint is that it's only available in a right-handed design.

I have had my Trackman for 5 years, and it has been Excellent! I would recommend this track ball out of my personal experience. My only wish is that Logitech would make the Trackman a little bit wider for us with larger hands, and add a 4th button for gamming.

I have been using this model of mouse since about 1998(or thereabouts).
I've had issues with carpal tunnel syndrome, and this mouse was a lifesaver in that regard.
But on to the topic listed in the title.
There is a decently sized hole in the bottom of the mouse, under the ball. Poke the blunt end of a pen up in there, and push the ball out. There you go! Easy cleaning. I tend to clean mine roughly every three days... since I have a cat, and a dog that sheds a lot.
My current incarnation is experiencing the compressed spring issue in the left button, which means I'll probably have to replace it, since I'm worried about breaking something else to fix the spring. Logitech really should market this thing more, considering how much time and money it could save IT-based corporations on employee sick leave due to repeat-motion stress injuries. Like Carpal Tunnel.

Over the past decade I have purchased a new trackball once a year. Although I like the fit in my hand and the ease of use, the ball soon works in a jerkey and hard to manage manner. I have just made another $50 purchase, and this new trackball is worse than the one I replaced. Now I have spent around $400 on new trackball mice and would'nt use another, but it would sure be nice to get one that will work for more than a few months. Yes, I do clean the ball and rollers(?) regularly, so what is the problem. If I could find another trackball like mouse that has all the features but works all the time I would switch.

A friend and his wife have one, and love it. I find it utterly unusable; having to move the trackball with the thumb is inconvenient and painful.
The Marble Mouse (Marble Man?), with a trackball that rests easily under index and middle fingers, is infinitely more comfortable and usable.

Have had TrackMan Wheel since August 2006. Love it for its ease of use and workmanship.
The only problem now having is left button has developed a mind of its own. Found on forums this is not uncommon as a small spring gets compressed with use. Will try to fix myself with aid of forum answer.
Or hope can get warranty support.

I have had the same TrackMan mouse for over ten, yes ten, years now. I love it and would not change back to a regular mouse even if you paid me. While my TrackMan isn't as smooth rolling or as nice looking as a new one, it still works great. I would love to upgrade to Bluetooth version, but I've been waiting for that for many years now. I have converted my father to using one, and now my girlfriend seems interested in have one too. They both say the same thing, "I like that I don't have to move the mouse, only my thumb." People often try to use my TrackMan but have difficulty at first because are use to using a standard sliding mouse. After a few days of breaking urge to slide the mouse it will become the best mouse you have ever own. I can almost guarantee it.

This is an excellent product except for having to disasemble it every six months to clean the lint off the nylon bearings. Why can't Logitech include a removeable bezel like the Trackman Marble Plus to allow the easy removal of the ball. The ergonomics are not nearly as good as the Trackman Marble Plus.

After three months of use, the ball doesn't seem to track effectively. The cursor quits moving and i need to shake or slam mouse to make it track. My daughter has one also, and it is doing the same. My son has an older version and has no complaints. We also play World of Warcraft and this is when it is really noticed since you cannot control your character.

A friend of mine was the first to introduce me to the Trackball mouse. My buddy and I were going to play games one night and, when I came over he lent me his old mouse, while he used his new Trackman. He whupped me gaming and I asked him how that was possible. Turns out that, since one doesn't have to move the mouse (just one's thumb), one can be a sharper shooter, or whatever it is you're gaming. Now, I couldn't even think about playing anything without a trackball. It would be too strange and my aim would be way off. My only wish is that this offset Trackman should have more that just 3 buttons. I've gotten many more people into it since I was introduced, and I'll always recomend it to whoever may listen!

I have been using a TrackMan Wheel for seven months on an Everex mid-tower running LinUX 2.6.22; I originally chose it due to an installation space restriction that contraindicated a mouse. The trackball, side buttons and center button/scroll wheel (no tilt) work just like the simulation on the mouse port (an additional kernel driver is needed for the same functionality over USB).
The only hangup I have encountered in routine use is in fact the scroll wheel, which, for future production, I recommend that Logitech upgrade to a lateral-tilting version (àux G5, G7, G9, MX-series, and VX-series) to accommodate the side-scrolling function needed on editor and browser applications for Windows, GNOME and KDE.

I've been using trackballs since the mid 90's, and own three of them: 2 at home and 1 at work. I can't imagine using anything but a track ball. Like the one review said: move thumb all day, or move arm, wrist, mouse, and get aggravated everytime I have to lift the mouse to get it back on track? The logitech products are great, have long lifespans, and just never seem to wear out.

I have used this trackball for 7 years, never a problem. The poor thing is so used that I am actually wearing through the shell. Lets see....move my thumb all day, or my arm, wrist and hand all day. Why anybody still uses a mouse is beyond me. Maybe a leftie, but there are options. I bought 3 extra a few years back just because they stopped stocking them in stores. I don't know what I would do without it!

After writing my review below, I decided to re-download the drivers, just in case. My TrackMan Wheel has been performing just fine since. Why cat hair in the mouse would affect drivers on the computer is a mystery to me, but I'm all about what works and this product does.

I've used a Logitech Trackball for years now and cannot fathom why anyone would want to use a mouse. The trackball is so comfortable and easy to use.
