First of all the design is very cool and stylish. it also produces a lot of sound even though my computer is 9 years old- released in 2003. its very easy to use and install; at first there was little sound; but then after looking at the instruction manual- you just have to go to your volume control and put the sound up. i got it for £20 from micro anvika and would highly recommend it epically in recession. it also has a couple of cool features.

A major oversight in the product packaging is the failure to mention that these speakers are 110-120V 60Hz AC powered, leading to confusion when non tech savvy customers compare the X140 product features to similarly priced products which are USB powered. I was specifically searching for a small set of AC powered speakers for use with my laptop, and I had to open the box in order to confirm that the X140 speakers are AC powered -- which was exactly what I wanted.
Design and Ergonomics -- splendid for the price. Quality of construction -- very good. Features -- I would prefer separate bass and tone controls, but I adjusted the X140's tone knob first, and then used my laptop's built-in EQ control to tweak the tone. Ease of Use and Instruction Manual: Totally straightforward and simple. Sound -- Very good, considering the size of these speakers. I wish that the polypropylene dome voice coil covers were instead made of metalized Mylar to improve the high frequency response in the 10 to 20 kHz range. The passive bass radiators do manage to fill a moderately sized room with decent yet somewhat muddy bass. This is due to the polypropylene cone construction of the speakers. Paper speaker cones would result in cleaner bass. With these design tweaks, these speakers would deliver superb sound for their size and without infringing on any competitor patents.
Summary: These speakers, in their present design, are a very good value for the price.

I got these speakers over a year ago for about $30 CDN. Nice, simple and cheap, and the frequency range is decent for such small speakers. They are also aesthetically pleasing to me, as their design is simple and unobtrusive.
However, I did run into a quality-control issue with these a few months after I purchased them. Any time a bassy noise was heard through them, they would make a crackling sound. I eventually got tired of this occurrence, and tracked the cause (voiding the warranty in the process) to the speakers rattling a very poorly-soldered connection in the right speaker when bass notes were played.
The positive power wire coming in from the left speaker was just sitting in its hole in the PCB, tinned, but with no solder blob on the PCB or the wire. When completely idle, this wire was making electrical contact with the PCB, but any vibration would cause it to briefly bounce and break this contact. A quick dab with my soldering iron fixed it up real nice, and I haven't had any problems since, but this is an issue that most people would have chalked up to "broken" and had the speakers replaced.

When i first got to college i knew i wanted speakers that would be loud and play most types of music but not go too deep into my wallet. these speakers are not it, i wish i would have not paid full price, most i would have paid is 10. they have no bass what so ever, and they really do not play loud at all. they were a waste of money, i ended up buying new speakers from Cyber Acoustics. they cost a little more but blew these speakers out of the water.

For the mere $30 that these cost, they are a great set of speakers for someone who wants good quality at a cheap price. That and you have a two year warranty. Yeah, the sound isn't perfect as far as bass, but if you have a problem with it, but something that comes with a sub woofer. If there is one thing that I would like to see changed, I would like to have seen a label on the speakers to know which one is left/right. Other than that, I would definitely recommend these to a friend! I have always had good to great experiences with Logitech in the past, so hopefully these won't disappoint.

Logitech X-140 Multimedia Speakers (2.0)
These are good speakers for the price. Got a pair to 'replace' some old Logitech speakers I had. Good overall design, for anyone wondering, the speaker 'grill' covers are of the 'metal mesh' type.
Output volume is adequate, I do have a bit of a hearing issue but still the output okay when I'm listening right by the speakers while working on the computer. However, if Logitech want to excel in this I'd go for doubling the output capacity.
There is a slight bias in sound output in favour of bass, which I think would be ideal for most people listening to music, but not so good for audio-books (which I listen to a lot). That said there is a 'tone' adjustment that can take the edge off the bass and treble for that matter (and can also adjust bass in the computer player itself if needs be) so in all I'm very pleased with the output. That said, reducing the bass/treble tone also reduces the overall volume.
Stereo separation is superb – way better then the old Logitechs I have – once the balance is set, sound seems to be dead in centre of the speaker pair, very good.
There is a jack socket for headphones on the front of one of the speakers. There is also a jack input socket. This is very useful for plugging in portable mp3 player (or whatever else) and having the sound coming out of the Logitech speakers. I use this quite a lot and it is a very handy feature to have.
My negatives for them are:
The volume turn knob also acts as the on/off switch. In itself that isn't an issue, however, when switching on, a fairly loud popping sound is produced. This is a minor negative. When adjusting the volume while playing no sound artifacts are produced. (I'd add that after a while, at least on the speakers I have this popping sound on switch on does reduce a fair bit.)
The on/off light is a red colour, I'd rather have it green. A minor negative.
The volume and tone knobs have only a small recessed dimple in their surface to indicate where, by touch alone, in the turning-range the knobs are located. In practice I find that can't feel either of them with my fingers. This is something I'm amazed Logitech have never addressed with their speakers – designing the knobs with some *prominent raised part* on them that makes it possible to tell by touch alone where in the turning-range the knobs are currently located. I'd say that *for these components* (and only these components) this is a major negative. If trying to adjust in the dark you can't actually feel with your hand where the knobs are in terms of the range they can cover. (My old Logitechs, though the knobs were of different design, suffered badly too over this lack of design consideration.) Come on Logitech, get it right once and for all – the blind will praise you, so too will the sighted.
Absence of a 'balance' knob' which I find very useful as I have a hearing issue that means it isn't unusual for me to want to adjust the balance. I've always hoped that Logitech would get round to producing a speaker with separate on/off, volume, bass, treble and balance knobs. (Though would again note that once balance is set to suit yourself via whatever player software or device you are using stereo separation is superb.)
Could do with an extra metre of cable to allow the speakers to be further separated from each other. (However, the supplied cable is adequate.)
Overall I'd give these small speakers a 'pretty good' recommendation. Sound-wise, great for the price – but double the output wattage would get this to a 'very good'. Design-wise just a couple of issues over detail that could be easily addressed, overall 'good'.

Flat panel monitor speakers are always tinny and sub-par in audio quality. For a bargain price these Logitech speakers really do a good job. Nice full, rich sound even at low volume levels.

I purchased a 22 inch LCD/LED TV and the sound was tinny. Bass tones made the audio buzz and I feared the TV was defective. Fortunately, the set has a headphone jack so I knew that adding speakers was an option. These speaker provide full, rich sound with plenty of bass to satisfy my needs and correct all audio problems inherent in my smaller TV. If only my TV had a switchable outlet so the speakers could turn on and off with my one-touch cable box power button my set up would be ideal but that's not the speakers' fault. They are a fabulous deal for 30 bucks! AND...I didn't even realize it had the input jack to use with CD players and other equipment. I couldn't be more pleased.

I've had these exact speakers for 3 years now and they are still going strong. They produce awesome sound that is very crisp and clear. I use these not only with my PC, but my Xbox 360 too - gotta love the AUX port on the front of these. They also are very durable because my kitty chews on them and knocks them off the desk daily and it doesn't phase these things. These speakers also have a nice design that doesn't look like they are part of a sci-fi flick like most other speakers do nowadays. Do not hesitate just because they are cheaply priced! They are very well worth it and are most likely one of the best 2.0 speakers you can find.

Just purchased a 19" LCD flat screen HDTV for an eating area in the house. The TV has great video but terrible horrible audio. Only 1.5 watts/speaker output with very little volume and sound was totally flat. Purchased a pair of X-140s and plugged them in to the rear headphone output jack on the TV. WOW, what a difference. Plenty of volume but more importantly, vastly improved audio fidelity. The TV sounds normal now. I was going to return the TV to the store but now I don't have to. The sound is super.

This is an excellent product for the price. I have only two minor issues: 1 .Loud pop when turned on. 2. Feet are not non-slip, which makes plugging or unplugging headphones or an external source a two hand operation. I compensated for this by placing the "right" speaker on non-slip shelving liner. Eventually I will stick on some non-slip feet.

These speakers are a great deal for $30. They are very well built. They sound great, actually for a 2.0 system they have pretty good bass due to the bottom pressure driver speakers. The only thing bad about these speakers is that for their size they are a bit under-powered (5 watts RMS) which can be a bit decieving considering their size, but for such low wattage they have great sound.

These speakers last a very long time. I liked the design of them with the grills on them. Alright sound, alright base. The only problem I had with them and will solve many people's problems would be the buzzing. So I have my speakers on my desk, and everything eles around it, my I-phone, computer, etc. Once in a while this weird crazy electric buzzing came from my speakers. After 4 months dealing with It I was tired so I like I finally found out It was from my I-phone being too close. I don't know if its just from my I-phone or this happens from other electronics. I hope you guys fix that issue. The last issue would be poor workman ship inside the speakers. Example is super glueing the screws. Not cool, gave me a blister. Lol

I have worked many years in the audio fields, pro, home, auto. Sure, I would not put these up against a set of DynAudio speakers. But for a $30 set of speakers, they are "darn good"...
For use as a computer speaker in an apartment setting, these have an incredible mid bass snap that is provided by the "passive radiator". Nice full sound without being harsh or muddy.
Nice job Logitech.
I would recommend these to anyone looking for great desktop speakers for use in office or apartment settings, they have great full range without being boomy.
