Love the mouse been using the original since I bought my gaming computer years ago. Love logitech gaming products but really hate what they did to the G15 keyboard and G5 mouse. The forward button is nice I had it on the MX500 on my parents computer, but don't have it on my original g5. But the new style of the G5 is enough to make me not want to buy it again and do my best to keep the one I have alive and kicking.

Ignoring the problems with the cable, this is a good, durable mouse that lasts past the warranty. My first G5 (the single thumb button, [stock] orange skinned one) I had for a long time, I eventually replaced it because the left mouse button wore out on me.
I'm yet to get so far with this mouse, but as others have said, the amount of on-the-fly customization offered by this mouse and its supporting software makes it awesome for us gamers. What's noticeable about this mouse is that while any perspiration that manages to come into contact with the button plate (if you were to unscrew the mouse, it's the first thing that you need to remove, from top to bottom.) or the body (the black piece) holds no sway on your ability to grip it.
My only complains about this mouse are: The mouse as a whole (cable included in this) will play as your second dust-trap.
The texture of the cable mesh makes it cling to all the oddities that blow across a desk, or happen to come off of a body.
The Mouse Body: The seems are a little wide, and with the number of strokes gamers make, the friction wears aware skin and dirt more - guess where it ends up...
The mousewheel: Most of what you'll find in here is hair, while it doesn't effect performance at all, it'll bug those of us who are clean-freaks, or have a slice of OCD.
Despite the cable's technical flaws, this is a good, if not a tad hard to clean, sturdy, accurate mouse.

Gone through three mice within one year. Mouse cord is flawed, mouse keeps shutting off and on. Logitech has replaced the mice 3 times, and no questions asked. It appears Logitech is aware of this problem.

After using a cheapo Microsoft ball mouse with the computer I got in April 2002, I ended up getting an Optical Wireless RX650 with the new computer I bought in October 2008. Although it is a great mouse in it's own right, I wanted to get a gaming mouse for Call of Duty 4. I got the G5 for £27.99 on Amazon UK Marketplace.
This mouse is superb. Going from balls, to a camera to a laser is quite amazing, and Logitech is at the head of mouse technology innovation. I have the latest Setpoint software, and DPI Settings of 400, 800, 1000 and 2000. I use Setpoint to set the speed setting to 6, and windows control panel mouse speed to 6. This is perfect, and I love sniping in Call of Duty 4 at 400 dpi. So accurate!
It has definitely improved my gaming, my kill ratio and the entire experience. I have one of the side buttons set to reload so I don't need to press shift to reload anymore. Amazing. Works well on almost any surface. No more wear and tear! No more balls (lol)!. No more cameras affected by dust! Poly feet, and a 3 year warranty.
I especially love the special tethered cord, which is so bendable, yet so agile and strong! Not a typical cable which attracts stuff, dust and weird material.
Incredible Logitech, just incredible.
I'm going to get the G19 keyboard, the G35 Headset, and the Z-5500 Speakers for my next system. Hopefully the G35 will be far superior to my Plantronics Gamecom 777.

I've had my G5 for about a year and a half and it has been flawless! Never been a fan of Logitech, but have added a G15 Keyboard w/ lcd and love it! I've tried many high end gaming peripherals and always come back to the G5 and G15. Awesome gaming setup and easy on the wallet!

The cable quality is horrible. The rest of the mouse is quite nice, but what is it good for, if the cable fails in just few months of use?

This is possibly the best mouse I've used up to date, and also going from using a cheap 20$ mouse for gaming to this, just blew me away, took a few scrims to get used to but other then that it is sweet, response time is flawless.

I LOVE this mouse! However, my 2nd one just died, like the 1st one did. The mouse is amazing, I used to recommend it to everyone.
The problem is the cable -- it's wrapped in this weird mesh stuff that has a design flaw, I guess. With the 1st G5 I had, the mesh got all bunched up and made big kinks in the cable. I had to cut the mesh but the cable still failed soon.
On the 2nd G5 I had, the cable simply failed without any visible kinks. the pointer now jumps around crazily and is unisable.
I think the problem is that I bring this mouse with me when I travlel. I'm really careful to wrap it up nicely, but even so, I think the cable inside is too weak to deal with travelling in my backpack. I bet if you only used this mouse on a desktop computer and kept the cable straight, you wouldn't have any problems.
Logitech -- please fix this mouse! I really want a version of it that will last! I miss it!!!
I'd just use a wireless mouse to avoid the annoying cable anyway, but of course, wireless mice are so insanely sluggish that they're unusable for anything more demanding than email/internet browsing. I need a high-performance mouse! If Logitech could only make a wireless version of the G5 with the performance of a corded mouse!!!

I bought my 'first' G5 almost 2 years ago. I had a Razer Lachesis before that and a Logitech MX518 Gaming Mouse (great in-expensive mouse) before that.
I have bigger than average hands and the G5 fits perfectly in my palm. I need to use the computer for long periods of time (I am a Comp Sci Major) and my hand never hurts unlike the Razer where my hand would start to cramp up after about 30-45 mins of use.
I also use this mouse for gaming. I game a LOT, mostly FPS and I can change the DPI on the go. I use 1200dpi when not gaming and 1600dpi when gaming. Buttons on the mouse make it easy to switch back and forth, plus the LEDs tell you what setting you are on, which I really like because I don't have to guess which setting I am on.
There are two side buttons which work great as back & forward buttons while surfing the net and as gaming controls while gaming (eg: knife & mic button for COD4).
I have sweaty palms which makes gripping the mouse kind of hard sometimes after prolonged use; but the G5 doesn't slip out no matter how sweaty my palms get.
I love this mouse so much that I went out and bought another one for my laptop. I also recommended it to a few of my friends and clanmates who love it as well. Now that I think about it, almost my whole clan uses G5's, that's about 50+ people.
The weight cartridge is another bonus. When I bought it, I thought the weights were going to be useless, but when I started using it, I noticed it was way too light for me. I played around with the weights for a few minutes and found the perfect weight setting.
Bottom Line: BEST mouse out there period.

So, I really liked this mouse. I loved all the features of it and that fact that it was a wired mouse and that I could make it heavier since I used to use wireless mice. After having it for a year though, it broke. The wire going into the mouse is bad. Now I have to get a new one.

I got some gift cards for X-mas and decided to treat myself to a nice gaming mouse. When I got the G5 home, plugged it in, and started using it I felt like I was pulling Excalibur from the stone. It's *amazing* in every way. The software is a bit of a challenge, but once I re-programmed the buttons and fired up WoW, I never looked back. The laser sensitivity is so good, it works just as well on the top of my head as it does on a mousepad.

This is yet another phenomenal product from Logitech! The braided cord is a great idea, however, the inner wire has worked its way through the outer-braide and has become exposed on my mouse. This did not hinder product performance by any means at all, it's just a cosmetic flaw. Function over fashion in my book! As for the response, handling, and overall feel of the product, I have absolutely no complaints! I would still recommend this product to anyone.

There is so much about this mouse that makes it what it is. Interchangeable weights, reinforced cord, quick switch dpi, and an over all comfortable design all help to push this product to number one. I use this mouse everyday for 5 - 14 hours a day and it is perfect. The design of the mouse perfectly fits my hand and is very comfortable. The quick switch dpi is great for no matter what style of games you are into. Also, the teflon feet glide across the mouse pad like lightning. This mouse is for ANYONE. If you just surf the internet... THIS MOUSE IF FOR YOU! If you play games all day long... THIS MOUSE IF FOR YOU! If you want a great product with great reliablity then... THIS MOUSE IF FOR YOU!

I bought this mouse after going to a technology conference where they suggested switching to a higher dpi mouse for better productivity. I am so glad I did! You cannot appreciate the difference between 2000 dpi and 800 dpi until you try it. I truly feel like I work better and it has reduced strain on my wrist considerably. If you work on a multi-monitor station, go buy one of these right now. You will have the same feeling you did when you went from 1 monitor to 2: it's feels like a whole new world.

This mouse is fantastic. I do a lot of graphic art, so I needed a mouse that would respond to delicate movements while still being steady enough to not fly across the screen. With the great adjustable features (weights and pointer speed, specifically), all of these requirements were more than fulfilled. I am SO thrilled with it! Plus, it's stylish and extremely comfortable, so those long hours spent with Photoshop don't break my wrist anymore. Great price, too -- what a find!

This Logitech G5 Mouse is perfect for gamers. You can adjust the DPI ranges in a dime. Perfect for people that draw through a mouse or trying to snipe someone on a shooting game.
This mouse has very good precision, even the arrow cursor runs smoothly across your screen!
I like this mat coating on the mouse, This mouse has a nice grip especially when your palm tends to sweat in a intense battle with your friends on a game. The Texture on the mouse is nice, it doesn't feel like that you're holding on to something cheap at all.
I like the back and forward shortcut buttons on the mouse, really useful while surfing the web or browsing your files and folders on your local computer.
The Adjustable weight are just fabulous! For people that just switched to a Optical or Lazar mouse from the classic ball mouse and they don't like it just the way how light it is. Well you can adjust the weights up to 36g heavier for people that love heavy mouses especially me.
Overall i give this gaming mouse a five star!
