I got this remote as a gift 2 years ago and it performed really well. It performed all the functions of my other 5 remotes and it does perform multiple functions great. A year after I got the remote the display started to dim. It seems like half the display does not work anymore so you can hardly read it. The remote still works but without the display it is just not as good as I would have hoped it would be. But is still does work with all updated equipment that I but, so it is a good remote.

I love my Harmony 550. I have a basic home AV setup: TV, receiver, and dvd player. I also connect my Zune dock and laptop for playing music and video. The Harmony remote makes it quick and easy to get to any of my content. I can even hand this remote to guests and they can utilize any function after a 30 second how-to.
The device support is amazing! I didn't expect it to support the Zune dock, but it does-- and gives me better range than the remote that came with the dock. I check the device support database when I consider purchases, but have yet to find one that isn't listed.
I think the best way I can vouch for the remote is by saying if I had to pick one piece of tech that has most lived up to and consistently exceeded my expectations, it's the Harmony 550.

I used to use the remote that comes with the individual components. I had 4 remotes to control different devices. I heard the Harmony but did not know how great it was and also was not willing to pay the high prices. Then, I saw a refurbished 550 at Amazon for $45. I give it a try. After I got it working, I was surprised that there is such a good product. Now I only need one remote and my wife is very happy. We had 550 for 4 months now and are very happy with it. I am going to buy another one.

I NOW HAVE 2 HARMONY REMOTES, 1 FOR MY HOME THEATER SYSTEM (6 COMPONENTS) AND 1 FOR THE BEDROOM. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW NICE IT IS FOR MY WIFE TO BE ABLE TO RUN A SYSTEM WITHOUT QUESTIONS. YOU DO HAVE TO DO A BIT OF SIMPLE PROGRAMMING, BUT ITS WELL WOTH THE TIME SPENT. FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING PROBLEMS???, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, AND MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE REMOTE POINTED AT YOUR SYSTEM FOR A LONG ENOUGH TIME TO TURN ON/OFF EVERYTHING. ITS NOT A MAGIC WAND, BUT ITS CLOSE!

This remote is horrible. It never turns all the equipment on or off at the same time like it's supposed to. We have become very familiar with the "help" button on the remote.
Garbage.
We are happy with our Harmony One though.. It's a good thing we bought that one first.. otherwise I would never buy another from this company having the experience with the 550

The best universal remote that I have ever owned!

This remote does everything that a universal remote is intended to do. Every time I thought that there was something that it couldn't do, it proved me wrong. Don't believe the bad reviews. All of the issues that I have read come down to improper set up. I have old components and a setup that I almost need a flow chart for, but this remote handles it flawlessly. The ONLY drawback is that you cannot test it while you are configuring it and it takes a long time to download information to the remote from your PC. The bottom line is, if it doesn't work, you set it up wrong. Also, I do not remember replacing the batteries, but if I did, it has only been once in almost a year.

Got this as a gift. I love everything about it! I was able to set it up exactly the way I wanted to without compromising a single feature. Even works with my satellite receiver. I cut down from 6 remotes down to one. My kids and I have dropped this remote on the tile floor about 200 times and it still works like new! Non-skid coating is great! Only needed to change the batteries once since then, and never lost the programming. I've never needed to refresh the programming unless I added components to my home theatre. This thing is quite a product and I will definately buy more harmony remotes if this one ever breaks....but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. This remote makes it so easy that my 7-year old and my 4-year old know how to use it. Great Product!

I absolutely lovew my remote, Prior to getting tharmony 550 I had several different remotes laying around. I tried other uneversal remotes. Harmony is the only universal remote that covered all 5 units. Even my girl friend can use it

I get my remote and it works well, but there are 2 points that are making me angry:
1. the remote "eats" batteries!
2. some keys are very fast out of function!!
Point 2 of course just after warranty-time!!
I would never buy a Logitech remote again!!

I had a huge problem finding a remote that would run both my cable box and my satellite box. Most would just do on or another. Decided to spring for this one and it was wonderful. Easy to set up and easy to swap out components with out a huge programing step. Unfortunately there were 2 big issues that really got me. First the firmware was unstable. Even though my PC saved all the info every couple of weeks or so I would have had to refresh the remote. I do think logitech locked down that issue since I have purchased it. The other problem that I have come across is the lettering on the soft keys wore off. Now it is impossible to see what I want to press for special functions.
Overall it is a great remote and I will be replacing it with another Harmony.

I received this remote free with the purchase of a large TV. I have owned it for about 1.5 years. At first I liked this remote but then it started freezing up. Tried the stuck button trick to no avail, changed batteries countless times, updated firmware, reprogrammed, and finally figured out that if I just remove the batteries and reinstall them it would "reboot" the remote and work fine for another undetermined length of time. Very frustrating when I just pushed fast forward on the DVR, down in the guide or want to change the channel when Oprah comes on. Well finally, after the 3000th time this remote froze up on me, I smashed it to the floor and the thing split in half. Feeling guilty, I reassembled it. Now it works but the LCD screen is broken. One thing I did like about this remote is the non-slip coating on it's back side. You can set it halfway off the chair arm and it will stay put. Well Logitech, I don't know if I can risk spending $$$ on a different remote from you.

Nicely built and attractive unit. I did not have the original remote for my flatscreen TV and bought this as an expensive alternative. I wish I had sprung for the original remote. Programming it is not at all intuitive, and worst of all, the unit does NOT have the full command set of the original remote. End result, I cannot access the onscreen menu of the TV because there is no button that corresponds to 'OK' or 'select'. If you have the original remotes and don`t need full control of your devices, this may be an option for you. But programming is a big ugly bear. Still, if you are patient and not too exotic in your requirements, it does remove the need for mutliple remotes, and it does simplify the switching back and forth.

I have had this remote for about a year now and it is the perfect addition to my home theater. It takes a while to get it set just the way you want it but once you do, its great. If you are thinking of replacing all those remotes on you coffee table, then this is the remote for you.
