Having messed with earlier "universal" remotes, I had never expected to find such a powerful, yet easy to program remote. It takes a bit of getting used to the Logitech Harmony software. Prepare to spend an evening playing with options, DLing to remote, then playing with the new features.
Once I was comfortable with the unit, I proceeded to add custom buttons to my common activities. For example, I like to set a sleep timer on my TV and receiver if I'm watching it while in bed. It took perhaps 10 minutes to get both custom keys added to the remote and working correctly.
Having a remote with mixed hard keys plus an LCD screen is perfect. Logitech has done a nice job of making unique shapes/sculptures of the various keys so that you can operate the remote just by the feel of each key. The backlit keys are a bonus in a dark "movie theatre" mode; most traditional remotes aren't backlit and I end up fumbling for the right key to pause, open menus, etc.
The range of devices supported is absolutely HUGE. Every one of my devices was in the list. Also, because you have to create an account, all of your device settings live on Logitech's web server. Just install the software on a new machine and it knows all of your remote settings. That is perfect as I discovered a few months ago after reloading Windows on my main computer.
I'm pleased to find that version 7.5.0 of the software is fully compatible with my Windows 7 64 bit (Release Candidate) system. No OS issues yet.
A few gotchas: The default timings (how fast it turns on devices and sends commands is very conservative). After a few weeks of using the remote and thinking it was sluggish, I shortened all of the delays. It is now very responsive and I've encountered no IR glitches.
I also have a rattle inside my remote almost from day one; Almost like there is a piece of broken plastic floating around inside the case. It hasn't affected the operation of the unit but the rattle is annoying.
BOTTOM LINE: Minor issues aside, this is a quality universal remote at a reasonable price. I find the combination of screen plus dedicated keys to be the right balance of custom buttons versus keys you need in every activity.

So much money, one would think it RF based so it could go through walls. Quality could last a bit longer too... sheesh.. Otherwise, works nicely.

This is a great product. Makes everything simple and easy to use. My wife likes the one touch operation that access every component to operate correctly. Alot easier than the sony touch remote I had before. No need to change over to all your components and set them just to watch tv or play video games. A little plus that I liked about the remote was the icons that you can put on the remote of your favorite channels, its pretty cool. I highly recommened this product. Ease of use and programming the remote is not as difficult as you would think. Well worth the money...great investment!

this remote is absolutely amazing, after installing just about every remote that harmony has to offer, as a professional a/v tech, i would recommend this purchase to almost anyone, for most all applications, after being programmed properly, this baby will simplify the most complex home theater setup, (properly being the the functional word). with a color touch screen too!
after reading multiple reviews and hearing people slam and gripe about simple things and features of this, it seems that 90% of the issues are in the initial setup, or people not understanding how to program properly. the programming can be a bit tedious and confusing for more complex items, but it can be accomplished, and if it is too much for some, that is why people like me have jobs.
but overall, if you are somewhat a tech savvy person, and you can read, then no big deal in getting this baby setup and ready to rock.
first of all, this thing supports 15! devices, which i have yet to reach a cap on in any persons house, if you set this system up, with some playing around, you can also program up multiple room's systems too!
second, this thing is so easy to use, that when i finish programming and verifying that everything is where it needs to be, i usually hand it to the closest child in the house and tell them to instruct their parents on how to use it.
third, the price. most people don't seem to understand the price point of something like this 10 years ago, without a touchscreen, and rechargeable battery.
fourth, this thing is way cool, and will do alot for you, but will not solve all applications for your setup in some cases. it is not compatible with an RF extender, which is my only major gripe with this remote, but in most cases an IR extender will solve the issue, but for a home owner might be too much to set up.
fifth, functionality is superb, there are no sneeky buttons that this bad boy cant show you on its touch screen that your old remotes can hide, after reading some reviews about them being difficult to find, with some work you can move those commands around, or in the worse case scenario, depending on the application, create a new activity on the remote to shortcut to what you are doing, as in create a generic activity / utility. this bad boy when set up properly will get everything ready for your gaming systems, and DOES have an adapter for PS3 commands as well, that is very well priced for anything with blue-tooth commands.
sixth, tech support is superb, the only time that i had a major problem programming this bad boy, after installing a brand new device that was just released to the public, some of the commands were just not working, during the phone call to tech support, they reprogrammed this thing right over the phone for me.
seventh, more complex commands can be a bit tedious and aggravating to program into the system when dealing with a distributed audio system in a multizone audio receiver, you really need to pay attention as to how it is programmed at this point, because you can have conflicting commands, depending on your equipment and the way that you leave the programming on for the other devices (if you tell it to turn zone 2 or room B on, you can turn of your main zone and equipment).
overall, this thing is the best thing to happen for your coffee table ever, as you can clear that remote farm of of it and not be the only person that can play a DVD in your house.
of all the negative reviews that i have read:
batteries and charger: i have not heard a problem yet from any customer as of yet.
tactile feedback of touchscreen: yes there is a problem here, this is not a push button remote.when you are using the touchscreen, this is not for all, if you are elderly or have very large hands you might want to upgrade or downgrade the remote to one of their other remotes, they are all this easy to use.
programming: this is why i have a job, if you cant figure this out, call someone who can, believe me it will be worth it. believe me when i tell you if i don't know or am comfortable with something, i wont do it (you wont see me rewiring my electrical breaker box, because i am not an electrician, stuff like that is just common sense).
durability: unless you drop this from 10 feet onto a tile floor, i wouldn't be worried, the remote is very well put together.
i hope this review helps you, i personally really enjoy installing the harmony line of remotes because when i am finished, the end result is a happy customer with a drawer full of remotes that never see the light of day again.

As a "techie", I like to have lots of gadgets - TV, DVR, amp, laptop computer, ipod, plus a number of game consoles, with everything hooked through the TV for video and amplifier for sound. However, my wife would only watch TV using the sound on the TV because it was too much for her to change everything (interest-wise, not competence-wise) - and she'd only play games if I was there to set it up. It bugged me much more than it ever bugged her - she wasn't playing with the toys properly!! With the Harmony One, I get to play, getting it all setup just right via my computer(even have the optional PS3 BlueTooth adapter!) and my wife gets to use the toys properly - "Watch Cable", "Play PS3", "Play Wii", etc. "Harmony" is a good name! My parents got one and feel the same way! (For them, guests would come over and ask to watch a ballgame or the news, but were out of luck if my dad wasn't home.) Think of it as an "add-on" to what you already have - you're not paying for the remote, but for the expanded use and greater enjoyment of the things you already paid for! For us, the default buttons seem to be just where I'd expect, and, most importantly, just where my wife would expect. The only sad thing is that we're a "his and hers" remote couple, so I still get stuck with the old remotes while my wife hogs the Harmony One for herself!

I had (5) remote controls that sat on my coffee table.
Each with it's unique features.
I always hesitated in getting a universal remote because it only carries out the most basic functions.
But not the Logitech Harmony One.
It carries out all and any functions your original remote can dish out.
What's even better is the ACTIVITY buttons.
Just press "WATCH TV" and everything that's associated to watching your tv turns on...even your TV selects the right input automagically!
My cable remote was good for powering my tv and cable box, but when I wanted to watch DVD I would need to use my TV remote to change the TV Input because doing it with the cable remote was not as direct. And I would need the DVD remote to power my DVD player.
With the "ACTIVITY BUTTONS" just press "WATCH DVD" and your TV, DVD and Stereo Receiver all go to the correct selection...It can't be any simplier.
Great product! I own many Logitech Products because of their innovative products and stellar customer service.
One side note:
Programming the remote can take you about 10-15 min depending on how complex your equipment setup is. But once programmed..it's all Good!

We have only had this remote control for 4 months.
Initially, it was awesome. However, inspite of keeping it cradled, the rechargeable battery has died. We were told that the battery should last 12-24 months. Now we are stuck sinking another $40.00 to ship a new battery that s/b here in 10 days.. We feelvery disappointed as we are now out over $300 for a remote. Hopefully, the new battery will last more than 4 months.
I am so sorry that we splurged. Take my advise and buy insurance,( if you are offered ~ we were not.)

I was worried that this remote would not give me all of the features available on my current remotes but I was wrong. Every button on my current remotes are available on one easy to use remote! My home theater is finally complete. With the touch of one button, my lights dim and all of my components turn on to the proper inputs. The adapter for the PS3 works great. I can even control my space heater! My only complaint is that I am going to get fat because I will never need to leave the couch!!!

It has taken me a few days to get the remote set up, mostly due to the software. It is really really good now but it has taken a few (tens) of attempts to get it right. The software is sooooo slow as if you make one change it takes nearly five minutes to upload the information to the remote. It's mostly due to the user information being stored over the web. To be fair I can control 6 diverse devices in my lounge now. It is totally worth the effort.

Very rarely does form and function meld so perfectly. It's incredibly easy to use. The touchscreen has few to no hang-ups. It's sharp looking and laid out quite well. It's the most ergonomic remote I've ever held. I really could go on and on about how much this remote makes my entertainment set up and devices easier to use and manipulate. i have many pieces of equipment from multiple HDTV's to surround sound to multiple gaming consoles and TiVo and upconvert DVD player/recorder... and so on. It even controls my laptop and desktop pc media functions. Add on the fact that the PS3 adapter is out and it now has eliminated every other remote... i'm down to one and one only. The price was well worth it and i have in the past and will continue to recommend this to everyone.

I use the remote to control the TV, the Sony Playstation 3, my music both CD's and from the computer and edit my photos from my TV screen.
Once set up this remote is useable and friendly even to the clueless techniphobe. I love this remote. It is a bit complicated to set up but very doable if you take it step by step. My husband has never been able to figure out remotes. After I set it up... he uses it effortlessly and can now even record programs for later viewing. Thank you for making it easy, on the both of us. :)

I was more than a bit skeptical regarding Logitech's lofty claim that the Harmony One is the ultimate solution to multi remote frustration. However, after owning this gem for a month now, my concerns have been resolved. It works as advertised and then some.
The remotes for my TV's, A/V receiver, DVD players, XBox, cable box and Roku are now dust collectors. Have not used them since I aquired the Harmony One. And, as advertised, all of the above mentioned components work in harmony with one another using the One.
Setting up the One was easy via the internet and Logitech's great set up software. The remote is well designed; it can be personalized; and the tech support is outstanding.
I would and have recommened this product to friends and family.
What more can I say except thank you Logitech from a very satisfied customer.

I bought this in December and am one of the most careful people I know when it comes to electronics. Remote is clean and well maintained, not dropped or thrown around ever. It's actually barely used at all considering we watch TV maybe a couple of hours a day if even that and we obviously don't keep the remote in hand during that time... Regardless, four months later the rubberized back is peeling off. Very disappointed considering this device's price point. I'm not one to make fuzz about things like this and yes, the remote works as intended, but the quality is sorely lacking.

Overall, I'm fairly pleased with the Harmony One, but do have some minor issues with it. This is my third Harmony remote.
First, the Mac-version of the software needs a lot of work. It can go from very easy to ridiculously difficult in a couple quick clicks. I couldn't program my system without a few calls to [a really great] support team.
The asymmetrical design is great and I love the quality of the device over other remotes.

Being a professional home theater installer, i have installed thousands of remotes in thousands of homes. I always recommend Harmony over other remote brands, and the One is the best that i have seen from them so far. This remote is not for the elderly, as they have problems with the sensitive touchscreen. A few weeks of using this will make you feel like a pro and it can be easily understood by almost all in a few minutes. Customization features are great and the remote can do almost anything. Battery life is decent, but after a year of use, I have to put mine on the charger every night or it will die. If you have problems with touchscreens, try the 880. If not, this is your remote.
