I've had trackballs almost exclusively since I began computing 20(?) years ago. Started with Microtech. Eventually went with Logitech and am now using the Kensington Orbit.
There is no trackball out there that is perfect. Few are even adequate. The Marble Mouse and the Orbit are both pretty good. A blending of the best features of both would come close to ideal.
The Marble Mouse has good button positioning. Perhaps because of the size of my hand (small-ish), I want control the ball with my middle and ring fingers and left click with the index finger and right click with the pinky. The Marble Mouse is ergonomically designed to make that very comfortable.
But the buttons don't like being activated that way. I have worn out two ( grey on grey, four button) Marble Mice by clicking with my index finger at the extreme forward end of the left button. Eventually the left button stops responding.
At that point, I either have to start using my thumb or give up on the MM. It's cheap construction--I have an old (white) MarbleMouse and it is still working great but is not adjustable for speed, precision or acceleration. While not up to today's demands, the old white MM was a tank.
Thumb balls don't work for me--no precision.
And the lack of a scroll ring--it could be placed under the buttons--it's such a big drawback, it almost makes the MarbleMouse obsolete...especially in games.
Bottom line is that after using Logitech trackballs for many years, I think they have lost their competitive edge and much of the quality and the thoughtfulness that characterized earlier products.

I have used this trackball mouse for several years and have found it to be very user-friendly and perfect for my needs! This mouse doesn't need any more space that the size of its base which is great on my crowded desk :) My carpal tunnel is kept at bay due to minimal wrist movement; it's all in the finger movements. It may take some practice to feel comfortable using the track ball; however, being able to move from one page to another with the flick of the thumb or finger is great. I'm glad to see this mouse is still available. I think I'll buy a spare!

This is a high quality device which is missing a scroll wheel. Without this, the device is of little value to most users.
Before you purchase this, try to use your current mouse without using the scroll wheel for a day. I noticed its absence within 30 seconds.
I am returning this mouse.

I buy a Marble Mouse everytime I get a new computer. Nothing else comes close to its precision and ease of use. When my toddler wanted to try the computer the Marble Mouse made it simple for her to learn the basics of screen navigation.

So if you need a thousand words before you buy this, just stop and move on.
I have only one word that totally describes the Marble Mouse - BINGO!
I am left handed and so is my son. This is so ergonomic and 'non-handed' that it amazes me.
The other great feature (true of any trackball) is that you can put it anywhere and not worry if you have enough space to use a mouse (I hate conventional mice - always running into something).
Besides - this is the coolest looking mouse ever!!

For me, this is the best mouse ever. I have a tremor, called Essential Tremor, and the mouse still works great for me. I do a lot of CAD work and can even use it on my belly when sitting back, pondering a design change or, especially, when gaming. Would be lost without it! I tend to wear them out but they are very affordable. I'm using my 6th one now and have enough parts to build my next one!!

When I was looking for a replacement for my Trackman Wheel trackball for my laptop, I knew I wanted another trackball. Since they don't move around like a mouse, I don't need as much space to use it. As I move my latptop around and use it in smaller areas, this is very important.
I was dissapointed to find that Logitech no longer made the Trackman Wheels and the cost of a replacement was prohibitively high. I spent an evening perusing online stores looking for a replacement and came across the Trackman Marble.
The price was right, compared to other Logitech trackballs, but I was concerned about using my index finger to manipulate the trackball and about the lack of a scroll wheel.
Initially, it took some getting used to browsing with my index finger, but I was able to master it without too much time spent. However, the longer I've been using it, the more strain I feel on my forearm. One reviewer said that it helped their carpal tunnel syndrome, but it seems to be aggrivating my arm and possibly causing it to develop for me.
I also mentioned the lack of a scroll wheel. This wasn't a deal breaker and I can get around it by using the arrow keys or clicking on the bar on the right side of the screen/window, but it does make things a little more difficult. I really miss using the scroll wheel, especially being able to program it to act as a double click button.
I weighed the limitations of the Marble long and hard and I thought I would be happier with the device than I am. However, where I to do it again, I would have selected a different device, possibly switching back to a mouse if I couldn't have found a reasonably priced track ball.

I have used this mouse for many years for my desktop need. I now also use on for my traveling with my laptop. Its ease of use with laptops often working in limited spaces is great.
When I used standard mice I was developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I switch to this trackball and within weeks the carpal disappeared, I have never gone back.
When people see me using this trackball with my laptop they often laugh, that is until I let them try it then they are sold.

I've been using Logitech Track(men?) since 1994 (I still have my box from my 1st Trackman Marble (1995?)). They are the ONLY way to go. I've used other products, but the Trackman has kept me comfortable. At work, it is this Trackman Marble, due to its more comfortable hand orientation, for extended use, as well as the need for a corded (non battery) Trackball. I work overnight IT support, for hospitals (in front of a PC for 13-16 hour shifts). This has all but eliminated sore wrist/shouder. If you've ever had to crunch away, "Drag & Drop," or scroll through endless lists & felt your shoulder fall asleep, get THIS PRODUCT! The difference will be night & day....
Please add a scroll wheel somewhere between the ball & cord (for fingertips) and you will have the perfect product.
(To maintain ambidexterity, try 2 scroll wheels, customizable for L-R scrolling & U-D scrolling (reversible of course)) I bet all of us would pay the difference in price. ;oD
This is a minor gripe & would not really prevent me from perpetuating my Logitech loyalty..... Just a kind request from a loyal patron. ;o)
Thanks again, Logitch for the newest installment of the best product.

My office is having me test a variety of trackballs for ergonomics. This is my favorite, so much that I bought one for my home computer also. I have narrow hands and most trackballs are too wide for me. Only downside is it doesn't have a scroll button or wheel.

Have used trackball for over 10 years. Would still be using original if it hadn't drowned in ice tea! After it dried out it still worked! Just not as well as before. Had to use regular mouse for a few days until I could get another and was amazed at the difference. A regular mouse is so awkward to use compared to a trackball. I have arthritis and use my pc sometimes for 8-10 hrs at a time and the trackball makes it easy and pain free. I love the new buttons. I put the trackball in front of me so even my arthritic shoulders are relieved. I can put it anyplace and use one finger if necessary to do all I need to. Brilliant! My work area is also limited and the trackball takes care of that too. Quality, priced right, well designed, very easy to use and install, it's just perfect!

I have used a Logitech red centered marble mouse for over 10 yrs at my office in a physical therapy facility, and now i purchased another for my home laptop. I woulldn't have any other mouse, it's the best in hand ergonomics that i 've found, plus its never given me a problem in over 10yrs of daily, heavy mousing.... This mouse is top shelf, for easy of use, and day in & day out quality performance.

I wanted a corded trackball to replace the old Logitech that had finally died. The new trackball devices are optical and read the ball much more accurately.
The device is too narrow for me and my hand gets sore after using it awhile but this is much better than using a mouse. I preferred the shape of the original but did not want to go wireless - personal preference.
One of the switches started to "double click" but a quick disassemble and spray with cleaner fixed that.

I have one of these that I use at home. I've had it for fifteen years and used with three different MACs. I will never go back to a regular mouse. This product takes up minimal space since it doesn't have to be moved around in order to use it. Also, the design is extremely ergonomic. I bought several of these for my workplace because I teach computer skills to adults with developmental disabilities. Every one of them loves this mouse. It can be used by right or left handed people. It can be used by people with very limited mobility. Also, being able to change the tracking speed and size of the cursor is wonderful for people with vision problems. I just can't say enough about how good this mouse is! Thank you for making a quality product.

On the one hand (pun!), I have three of these: two in my office, and one at home for when I take my laptop home. The "youngest" of the bunch is probably six, seven years old. I do keep a small, retractable, stiff-bristled brush on my desk for cleaning out the ball well, as dirt, debris, crumbs etc. occasionally gum up the works. But I just take out the ball, brush out the well, and we're back in business!
Seriously, how can Logitech stay in business, if stuff like this lasts forever? :p

I bought my first one of these a decade ago when I was working as a marine biologist on fishing vessels in Alaska. Due to cramped space I needed a device that would not require room to move it around and did not want to use the touch pad. I then found out how wonderful these devices are. And they are perfect for FPS games as well, one swipe of the finger and you can strafe like nobody's business. I have one for my home desktop. One for my laptop case. And one for my work computer. I have also gotten my brother to try it and he has two of them as well. The one I purchased way back in the beginning is still working too.
My one and only gripe about this device is there is no scroll wheel. A lot of my video editing requires that I can use the scroll to re size, but I would rather use hot keys as a work around than give up my trackball mouse.
