This remote was selected by the AV professional who built the system. Nearly every time it is removed from the charging station, it presents us with the white screen of death. Watching television or movies has never been so complicated or time consuming. The question of whether or not it will work has become a household joke. On the bright side, we have devised a number of work-arounds that have turned out to be more efficient than even the times when the remote is working. We've put up with this for a year (possible only because we rarely watch tv), and are now moving on to a different system.

This is the second Logitech remote I have purchased. The first an 890 failed after a couple of years. I was told it was unrepairable. They offered me an 1100 at half price ($175). It has worked less that a year. Now because I am beyond 90 days they want $29.95 to reset it. I will give them one last chance, then return to my Samsung remote. WTS

You can do everything with this remote. It will control the state of all of your devices depending on what you want to do... so if I want to "Watch a DVD" (which is done on my Xbox 360) then it will power on my TV if it isn't on, switch my TV to the proper source input, turn on the Xbox and put it to the DVD section!
My TV is also a smart TV that has a Netflix app. I was a bit disappointed at first to see that this didn't have a setup for that, but I then learned about custom generic activities. It took a bit of finessing but I managed to be able to go control my Netflix App on my TV through this thing as well!
My only wish is that we could have custom icons for the activities, but it's not that big of a deal. Other than that it's GREAT!

I've owned this remote for two years now. Got it cause the wife needs simplicity when dealing with the home theater. I don't understand why so many folks have given low ratings because it's hard to use. Not true at all. I'm not tech savvy but find programming the remote to be easy. The wife only has to touch the picture of what she wants to watch and everything else is magic!

The is by far the coolest and best remote ever manufactured!
Set up is super easy with the walk through software!
Had the whole system set up in under 30 minutes, and would have been faster if I wasn't trying to work at the same time.
I would highly recommend this!!!

I'm writing this in response to the vast amount of reviews that have an author professing to be "Tech Savvy". While I don't necessarily doubt their claim, Savvy-ness is not sufficient for configuring and maintaining this product. This device attempts to emulate communications for products that are notoriously inconsistent, unreliable and unstandardised. While there are flaws in the product's design, there are virtually infinite potential incompatibilities that are outside of Logitech's control.
Put simply, you can get this device to work - but you have to be prepared to look into every area of every menu of every product you wish to attach to the system. You have to be prepared to do this multiple times. In my case, I found that my DVD player sends HDMI CEC signals, which turned the TV off after the Harmony had already turned it on. This is just one of the 20 or so quirks I had to find to get the system to operate properly.
I actually had a professional configure the Harmony as part of an installation, and even he failed to get many of the quirks ironed out. You need time and patience - if you don't have this, don't bother.
Aside from this, the remaining negative points about the device are: - The touchscreen is unresponsive by modern standards. - The configuration process is far from perfect. The device connects via USB to a separate PC with Logitech software installed (Windows & Mac supported, but no Linux *sigh*), and requires registration of an online account with Logitech. Not an elegant process by any means. - Unimpressive battery life.
When it works, it does the job. Unfortunately there is nothing that leaves you wowed - which is a great shame considering the device's market price.

HAVE A MAC BOOK PRO. BEFORE BUYING I KNEW I COULD RUN INTO A FEW HURDLES. I FOLLOWED SOME OF THE TIPS TO INSTALL BOTH WERE FOUND ON LOGITECH FAQ. I WAS UPGRADING FROM AN OLD 500 SERIES LOGITECH SO SETTING UP WAS PRETTY EASY BC I HAD THE ACTIVITES I NEEDED ALREADY SET UP. ADDED MY FAVORITES AND CUSTOMIZED THE BUTTONS. READY TO GO AND..... "PRESS A BUTTON TO WAKE UP REMOTE" REALIZED I NEEDED TO REBOOT IN 32 BIT MODE, AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY TO GET REMOTE TO UPDATE. SO FAR SO GOOD. I WILL ADD LIGHTING TO MY ROOM NOW, ONCE I GET SOME ADAPTERS... WELL SEE HOW EASY THAT IS WHEN THE TIME COMES...

When my husband put a PS3 into our setup I drew the line and asked for this for my birthday. It has proved its worth over the past few years. Whatever the cable company throws at us, I reprogram the harmony and we are back in business. When I want to watch TV, I just push the "watch TV" button. My elderly Mom can control the system when she visits. I am very impressed. That's how this stuff should work.
Thank you Logitech for keeping on top of all this

I had to replace the charging station once already and the second one is defective also. My remote will not connect to my computer no matter how many different USB connectors I have used. It was a cool product for a while. The set up was tricky at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was easy. It didn't control my PlayStation 3 until I bought an additional adapter for it. Another expense.... Overall, it seemed pretty cool, but has been a real headache. Next time, I will go with a better company. Not satisfied....

I've had several remotes from Logitech, from the early Harmony 300's to the current 1100, and like all products, there are pros and cons to every one. This one is mostly "Pro".
Overall, I give the 1100 a solid "A" on most all of it's features and uses. It's designed to control several devices from one unit, by one click. I'll tell you, simply pressing "Watch TV" and and having it turn on the PVR, TV, Surround Sound System, etc. is SPOT ON what I wanted it to do. This one unit replaces no fewer than 7 separate remotes in my family room, from the TV and it's related equipment to the ceiling fan, to the game systems under the TV. If you are looking for a something to replace that basket full of remotes next to the couch, this thing is exactly what you need. Click "Watch TV" - the TV, Surround Sound, PVR, Cable set - all on and ready. Click "Play a Game" - TV, Surround Sound, Game System. all set, and running. Click "Listen to FM", and off goes TV, tuner comes on, surround sound on and game off. Couldn't be simpler, and it's VERY easy to set up. Plug in the USB, install the software, create an account, and tell the system what devices you have. It does all the work, and I've (truly) even found my IR Ceiling Fan and some toys in their list of devices pre-programmed and ready to go.
BUT.....
Once you have your devices up and running, don't expect every function available on the units original remote to be available on the Harmony. This is the one thing I'd ask Logitech to improve. Give me the ability to add the functions I need/want to the remote so I can control little things like Pciture-in-Picture, or other seldom-used functions that I might find valuable. Some of us might do more than change channels, raise/lower volume, and fast-forward or reverse the PVR. If you are looking for these types of (albeit seldom used) functions, you're not gonna find them.
If you are looking for a one-stop remote, for all your devices, that can to the simple things and control from everything you need from one button - then this is the remote for you. If you are looking for all of that PLUS every button and control on your original remote, keep looking.

The Harmony 1100 is amazing. My wife was skeptical; but when the five non-matching remotes were replaced with a single sleek remote displaying activity-based icons, she loved it. We have had the remote and RF Extender since 2009 and have had no issues other than normal wear and tear. It is great for guests; it is much easier to show them how to use your different devices - one touch rather than multiple remotes and instruction. The 'Help' button is amazing also - it asks you questions and fixes the problem 99.9% of the time. We also just purchasd the PS3 Adapter. The remote does require an investment of time in the beginning for setup; however, its simplicity and ease of use will make you question how you lived without it. Definitely recommend!

I purchased this remote to replace an older Logitech remote. Within 1 hour of use, I decided to return this product based on this:
- I had to register a new user account in order to get this remote up and running. I'm used to just upgrading using my existing account and having all of my settings transferred to the new device.
- You need to use both hands to use the remote. I'm used to one-hand operation.
- The touch screen is really bad. I found myself pressing the touch screen multiple times before the operation would register. I believe the screen is too small. This might be an iPhone biased, but the touch screen should be better than it is.
Overall: Do not get this product. Other Logitech remotes are better if you prefer a one-handed operation.

I bought this remote in the hopes that it would remove all of the complexity from operating all of the equipment that is in our home theater system. Well it didn't. Unfortunately the fact that the design on this remote is tied to activities and not functionality. With a very limited set of soft buttons on the main screen and hard buttons are also very few, you find yourself flipping through multiple screens to find thing you need.
Overall experience is fair, but after getting everyone used to operating it. The unit died just over a year later.
Out of warranty...after buying all of the required accessories...$600 paperweight.

I've owned this remote for about 2 days now. So far, the only problem I had was with initial firmware update. Seemed like it hung a couple of times during the update...Luckily that doesn't seem to have caused any problems.
So far, I've setup the remote for my living room TV, satellite receiver, bluray and my family room TV and satellite receiver. The family room tv had some trouble, but eventually the troubleshoot option corrected the issue. Everything else worked first time through.
Kind of bummed about the slideshow feature. I thought prior to buying, that it would display the slideshow while charging in the cradle. It does NOT do that. The only way to get the slideshow on, is to manually turn it on.
The overall feel of the remote is a little weird. I guess it's because I'm used to a normal remote, but I guess I'll get used to it.
Touch screen is excellent. I feel like I have bear paws for fingers and I'm able to navigate and control everything with ease.

I absolutely love this remote. It works great and is easy to set up and operates everything you can through at it. My only complaint like so many others is the lack of ability to customize the icons with the software. It would be nice to be able to add custom icons to any activity or function. I'm not sure why this request is so hard for logitech to make happen after so many years of complaints by loyal users of their remotes. This will hopefully happen someday!
