After recieving multible remotes with my equipment, I decided to get a single unit that would control everything. I selected the Harmony 1100 for controlling my 52" Sony, Home theater{sony}, Blu-ray {sony}, DVR cable box{Motorola}. I also use the television as a monitor for my computer, so I added this command to the harmony also.It was a breeze to setup and was exactly what i needed to replace all the other remotes. I will be also setting it up for another television and cable box ,in the bedroom,so that it will act as a spare in case that remote goes bad.
Best Remote on the market.

I can't figure out why people reviewing this product have problems. I've had mine for two years without any! It does what it says and more. Everyone that comes to the house has or wants one. And the people who complain that you have to update it and have internet access,,, who doesn't have access to the internet????

I have had and used this remote for three years now H 1000 I found it extremely easy to set up just make sure you read the instructions onlin all 500 pages. I have used it with all types of equipment with advanced features and find the operations easy. It is a little slow at times but what would you expect I also like the fact that you have to upgrade it about every three months it keeps the platform current and refreshes the device lists and firmware. Biggest thing to remember when buying an advanced remote that preforms advaned features! You must have an advanced knowledge of computer skill sets other wise stay with multiple remotes.

I am a custom installer i use to install many Harmony remotes. from the 880 to the 1000. They all work fine for about a year and then the buttons fall off and the rf starts to have problems. BUT most of the items he mentioned are from his lack of knowing how to use the remote. you can definitely use the harmony to switch video through your receiver. all the blu-rays are listed under dvd and you just need t have the manufacture and model number.
I stopped using them also because you have to update the base and the remote and you have to have internet access.
Great for the first year but be ready to be disappointed and to buy a new remote.

I have had this remote for 3 weeks and do not have one complaint. With a free 90-day phone support (and it's a toll-free call), there isn't any reason anyone can't set this remote up. I did the basic install and set up on my own and it works every unit in my home theater system flawlessly. I did have some conflicts because of a certain TV model I had (uses a media box), but I got online with the tech. and he actually set the thing up for me. No need to pay a professional A/V guy anything. IF you have your components right in the set up, it's all web based and the Logitech Techs. can either help you or take care of it. It did take some time, but a free phone call and explanation of the issue was all it took to get it working the way I want it to. I was surprised and this remote is somethat that my 2 1/2 year old uses and that is NOT an exaggeration.

i would like to say that i had all of the same problems as everyone else has had. my remote could not control my Samsung BDP, i could not get it to switch between activities, missing buttons compared to my manufacturers remote, and so on. i was so frustrated after spending a few hours on it.
But before I discredited everything Harmony promised, I consulted with an AV installer about my problems. he came over and in literally 30 minutes, he had every problem squashed. not only that he set some settings to get rid of the button noise, set my amp to do all of the video switching, and add some other fetures that i could never dream of.
It sems that the 1100 IS capable of everything that they advertise, i just dont have the knowledge or the programming know-how to set it up.
My advise, pay the 65.00 for professional setup, and enjoy your expierence with this remote.

I am on my second remote and each one emits a ringing sound from the screen. Its a high pitch ring and drives me nutts when ever the screen is lit up. I think there is a design flaw. I wish the Harmony One did RF. I loved the Harmony One when i had it.

I am an avid Logitech products user, and have been a fan of Logitech ever since the late 1980s. However, this product so very much disappointed me, that I felt compelled to write and warn others of this product.
In summary: this remote is not worth the hefty price. This remote might be worth $100, but is simply not worth five times as much. In terms of a cost/benefits analysis, this remote is dramatically deficient.
***
I finally made the leap to digital in my home - purchasing a flat screen TV, an AV Amplifier, and a BD player. My desire was to rid myself of all the remotes and standardize on just one remote.
In my previous environment, I used the Sony RM-AX4000A universal remote, and was satisifed with the performance.
I was thrilled with the appearance of the Harmony 1100 - it was sleek, had a metallic face, and a rechargeable battery. The ergonomics were just a little too small, but otherwise perfect.
However, the unit's functionality was exceptionally poor. Specifically:
- CONFIGURATION
The Logitech web-based configuration of this unit made one fatal assumption: that the TV would be used to select the video/audio source. Not so - since all of my equipment was configured to use the AV Amplifier to select video & audio source, I could not configure the Harmony 1100 to work in that way. You either had to connect all of your devices to the TV, or you could not use the 'workflow' functionality (One button functionality) of this remote.
- LACK OF PRODUCT SUPPORT
There were two aspects to this problem:
a) The web based configuration tool does not have any idea of support for BlueRay Players. They know what a DVD player is, but not BlueRay.
b) More Serious: In the manual configuration of the remote, where you select to control an individual component (ie BD player, AV Amplifier, etc): when the Harmony 1100 is configured to 'support' a specific component (ie a DVD Player), the Harmoney presents the user with only a sub-set of buttons for that device. In other words, once the Harmony 1100 is configured to 'support' a device, the Harmony 1100 DOES NOT present the user with ALL of the buttons that the user would find on the original remote included with that device.
This is a real problem because my AV Amplifier requires that a specific combination of buttons be pressed to perform some fundamental tasks.
I dont understand how Logitech can make the claim of complete support for various manufacturers' hardware when the Harmony 1100 is incapable of presenting the user with full remote control of the different hardware.
- SCREEN CLARITY/RESOLUTION
The on-screen colored buttons that present workflow (one button functionality) are multi-colored and generally attractive. But the manual buttons for remote control are monochrome (black & white) and generally 'unclear' - the white words on the black buttons appear unclear and are more difficult to read.
The resolution of the screen appears generally low-quality. How is it that the iPhone has roughly the same size screen and presents high-resolution buttons to the user, while the Harmony 1100 shows low-resolution/low-quality images for the same price? In summary - the Harmony's screen resolution is sub-standard.
CLICK SOUND
The click sound that the Harmony makes when selecting screens of manual buttons is loud and obtrusive. Why does the remote make these sounds? Why is there no option to turn that off in the configuration? This is a real problem when lying next to someone sleeping, and you need to press a button. The sound is loud.
BACKGROUND PICTURE
The idea of showing a background picture on the screen might be a fun idea, but really - why? This is a remote for home use - an item that will most likely never leave the living room - why have a background picture?
***
The Harmony 1100 is stylish, and physically attractive, but is seriously deficient in its functionality. The Harmony 1100 imposes a fixed hardware configuration on the user in terms of the configuration of the home entertainment system (all items wired to the TV instead of the AV Amplifier). The Harmony 1100 provides partial manual control of the home entertainment system (incomplete remote button support), and the Harmony 1100 screen is low-resolution: letters are not crisp and clear, and no color is used in the component control buttons.
The price of this item is too high in relation to its utility - this item does not provide enough functionality to justify its high price tag.

As the only viable RF remote from Logitech (Harmony 890 screen dies in less than 12 months), the H.1100 is a very pretty remote. While the big screen is pretty to look at, it is no where near as ergonomic as the stick remotes like the Harmony One. It just seems a lot easier to press a real button to skip forward over commercials on the dvr than to find the spot on the touch screen. And, its alot easier to mute or change volume when you only need one hand, whereas the H.1100 needs two hands for operation. The H.1100 is a bit slow, since all the commands are single-threaded. To turn on a few devices can take a bit, but its easier than picking up 5 remotes one at a time. But, if all 5 devices are IR, you will find yourself getting tired of holding the remote pointing at the devices while it tries to finish its sequence. The H.1100 seems to lockup from time to time...is this thing built on Microsoft? I have to remove/reinsert the battery to reboot it once or twice a week. I have been highly impressed with Logitech keyboards and mice, but NOT so with Harmony remotes.
The Activity builder is very simple, and in my opinion too simple. All flexibility has been removed and no "advanced" programming is possible. I guess I just expected more for that much money.

This remote won't "do" more things than some of the lower costing logitech remotes. But you don't buy this remote because it has more features. You but this remote because it's cool. If you dropped big money on the rest of your system get this remote. BTW I talked Best Buy down over $100.
Good: Its cool. Looks great. Gets that wow factor. Works great. Easy to set up. Anyone can use it or set it up. Truly completes a home entertainment center.
Bad: You can't use it on the docking station. There is no Lock button. RF not standard. Lack of control for Xbox and PS3.

My wife bought me this remote for fathers day and i am not pleased at all. the changer always freezes, and the volume never goes up or down when i want to, the battery always goes low very quickly. We dislike this so much we use the changer we got from the cable box...you know the 10 dollar one. this is NOT WORTH 500 BUCKS. its difficult to use and when i want to go to "wacth a DVD" it always turns the DVD player on but not the TV Imput. i know i set it up right i listenimed to the on-screen insturctions on the computer. do not buy this...

Maybe it is me, but I purchased this remote. My 880 remote was on its last leg, and wanted to upgrade. I own a Sony TV, and have discrete input issues. I worked with second level techs. They were very nice and helpful, but after two and a half hours, the inputs still didn't work correctly, and then I lost all the device commands on every device. So, I called about one issue and didn't resolve that and then another one came up. Both could not be resolved. I returned the remote. I ordered another 880 online. I will still have the Sony input issue but I know what I am getting.
I just want it said, that Logitech rocks, and maybe it was just my unit, but I was extremely frustrated and returned it.
I hope in the future that Logitech can get all the Sony input commands, so my TV can work correctly with the remote.

I like this remote mainly because I like to tinker with gadgets. It will not make your system more user friendly. In fact to the contrary, if you do not know this remote in detail, you will probably find it more constraining than helpful because the Logitech database of devices has errors and is missing commands for even popular devices. You may well find that some commands will be missing so you will have to grab the original remote anyway. For this reason alone, my wife hates using the 1100 and prefers using the original remotes instead.
Add to this that many of the advertised features do not work. The IR signal seems weak, so you have to point the remote at the devices to be sure it will control them. If you do not, the remote will become confused about the power state of the devices. So this remote really needs the RF adapter. If you have a PS3 you will need the PS3 adapter. But even with the PS3 adapter, the remote will not always know the PS3 power state so there will be times where you will have to use the PS3 game controller.
The price for the combo of the 1100, the rf extender and the ps3 adapter is more than that of the PS3, but the level of functionality and build quality of the remote combo is not on par with that of the PS3. You might think that for close to $600US that the 1100 would be more than a mere remote - For example, there is no real timer mode, so you can't use it as a wake up alarm.
$600US is in the price range of an excellent netbook. So if you have money to burn and and you like to tinker, then you might like this but on the other hand, if you are looking for a toy to tinker with and are technically proficient, I suggest instead that you buy a small netbook. Most netbooks will have USB, WiFi and IR. You can then buy a Z-wave USB dongle and download IR and z-wave controller drivers for linux or windows and create a better remote.programming device,

I have a 10yr old Marantz RC5000 (Pronto). I needed to replace it - the screen is failing. I looked at Phillps 9400 and the Universal MX3000. They were both much more expensive and much more complicated but, they also were capable of custom integrations that the Harmony can't do. That said I needed to simplify remote cotrol via RF of:
-Blueray Player
-AV Amp
-Cable Box
-3 media players
-AV switch
-plasma tv
-projector
I was able to set up the devices easily. Some devices I needed to have the 1100 learn from the OEM remote even though the Harmony database indicated that the 1100 supported them but, this wasn't a big deal. The "Activities" functions work very well. This remote is much more family friendly than my old pronto and now my wife and daughter are using more of my home entertainment solution by themselves. I've had it for about two months now and we love it.

My Harmony 880 died in less than two years. It makes a great paper weight.
My second was a Harmony 1000 purchased in July 2008. It worked OK for a few months. Then the problems started. Too many to list. In less than a year it became completely inoperable. It's a great door stop.
I now have a Harmony 1100. So far I am underwhelmed. I cannot get it to learn commands, nor can I customize the buttons on the touch screen.
These remotes are overpriced, substantially under-engineered and use low quality components. Firmware with glitches and firmware updates that crash the unit.
I'm trying to be fair, so on the positive side, they look good.

Without going for a custom remote this is the best in the market and all for an affordable price compared to the 1000's that some people spend on custom remotes to gain a hold on their entertainment systems. CES innovation award says it all really.

All and all this is a good remote. Its expensive for what you get. the RF extender should be included with the remote for this price. One problem i do have with the remote is when the battery gets low a box pops up saying the remote needs to be placed on the charger and when this box pops up you cant clear it so what ever you were doing (fast forwarding, changing channel, or looking at the guide) gets lost. multiple times i have been fast forwarding TV and movies when this has happened and it keeps going because of the box pop up and you cant stop it. you end up fast forwarding through the whole movie untill you can pull out the original remote. the remote becomes useless and you have to put it on the charger for awhile and stop watching tv. I believe this is an error in the remotes software that hopefully is fix during a firmware upgrade. the battery life is very poor. The Harmony One is a more solid remote and if it had RF capabilities i would switch back to it in a heart beat. Other than these issues it is a nice product and is otherwise functionally sound. it looks nice and the touch screen works very well. It is easy to program and easy to use. Not the best value for the money though.

I don't really consider myself a gadget person. Don't get me wrong, I have paid many a dollar for the latest "it" phone or newest “must have” gizmo, but inevitable once the “coolness” wears off & I am stuck with a gadget that I have paid a hefty price for & can only use half the features. That said, I must tell you that the Harmony 1100 is one of the neatest remotes I have ever seen &/or owned. With one touch of this unit, my system readies itself for whatever activity I am about to do. Before we got the Harmony, if we wanted to watch a DVD, we would have to take out 3 different remotes, one for the TV, one for the amplifier & one for the DVD player itself. Now all we do is press “Watch DVD” &, like magic, all of the components needed for that activity turn on. If after we finish the DVD we choose to watch T.V., one touch of the “Watch T.V.” button prepares the system for T.V. viewing & shuts down any components that are not necessary for that activity. Furthermore, I was also able to download a bunch of photos to the unit which can be viewed as a slideshow when the unit is not in use. And those are just 2 of the functions this remote offers. It is really quite remarkable & looks great to boot!!! Well worth the $499.00 price tag.
I've used this product: One week to a month
