I am an avid Logitech products user, and have been a fan of Logitech ever since the late 1980s. However, this product so very much disappointed me, that I felt compelled to write and warn others of this product.
In summary: this remote is not worth the hefty price. This remote might be worth $100, but is simply not worth five times as much. In terms of a cost/benefits analysis, this remote is dramatically deficient.

I finally made the leap to digital in my home - purchasing a flat screen TV, an AV Amplifier, and a BD player. My desire was to rid myself of all the remotes and standardize on just one remote.
In my previous environment, I used the Sony RM-AX4000A universal remote, and was satisifed with the performance.
I was thrilled with the appearance of the Harmony 1100 - it was sleek, had a metallic face, and a rechargeable battery. The ergonomics were just a little too small, but otherwise perfect.
However, the unit's functionality was exceptionally poor. Specifically:
- CONFIGURATION
The Logitech web-based configuration of this unit made one fatal assumption: that the TV would be used to select the video/audio source. Not so - since all of my equipment was configured to use the AV Amplifier to select video & audio source, I could not configure the Harmony 1100 to work in that way. You either had to connect all of your devices to the TV, or you could not use the 'workflow' functionality (One button functionality) of this remote.
- LACK OF PRODUCT SUPPORT
There were two aspects to this problem:
a) The web based configuration tool does not have any idea of support for BlueRay Players. They know what a DVD player is, but not BlueRay.
b) More Serious: In the manual configuration of the remote, where you select to control an individual component (ie BD player, AV Amplifier, etc): when the Harmony 1100 is configured to 'support' a specific component (ie a DVD Player), the Harmoney presents the user with only a sub-set of buttons for that device. In other words, once the Harmony 1100 is configured to 'support' a device, the Harmony 1100 DOES NOT present the user with ALL of the buttons that the user would find on the original remote included with that device.
This is a real problem because my AV Amplifier requires that a specific combination of buttons be pressed to perform some fundamental tasks.
I dont understand how Logitech can make the claim of complete support for various manufacturers' hardware when the Harmony 1100 is incapable of presenting the user with full remote control of the different hardware.
- SCREEN CLARITY/RESOLUTION
The on-screen colored buttons that present workflow (one button functionality) are multi-colored and generally attractive. But the manual buttons for remote control are monochrome (black & white) and generally 'unclear' - the white words on the black buttons appear unclear and are more difficult to read.
The resolution of the screen appears generally low-quality. How is it that the iPhone has roughly the same size screen and presents high-resolution buttons to the user, while the Harmony 1100 shows low-resolution/low-quality images for the same price? In summary - the Harmony's screen resolution is sub-standard.
CLICK SOUND
The click sound that the Harmony makes when selecting screens of manual buttons is loud and obtrusive. Why does the remote make these sounds? Why is there no option to turn that off in the configuration? This is a real problem when lying next to someone sleeping, and you need to press a button. The sound is loud.
BACKGROUND PICTURE
The idea of showing a background picture on the screen might be a fun idea, but really - why? This is a remote for home use - an item that will most likely never leave the living room - why have a background picture?
***
The Harmony 1100 is stylish, and physically attractive, but is seriously deficient in its functionality. The Harmony 1100 imposes a fixed hardware configuration on the user in terms of the configuration of the home entertainment system (all items wired to the TV instead of the AV Amplifier). The Harmony 1100 provides partial manual control of the home entertainment system (incomplete remote button support), and the Harmony 1100 screen is low-resolution: letters are not crisp and clear, and no color is used in the component control buttons.
The price of this item is too high in relation to its utility - this item does not provide enough functionality to justify its high price tag.
