After becoming accustomed to the slew of features and overall ease of use on another Logitech keyboard, namely the diNovo Edge, I never thought that I'd be springing for a new keyboard so soon. I'm an avid writer, and most times I find myself going to my MacBook Pro because of its illuminated keys...it was a wonderful idea on a laptop, and it's an even better idea for an external keyboard. I work in low to moderate light for most of my day (and many times nights) and typing on the Edge, while it was a great experience, was more difficult because I often made keystroke mistakes.
Now to be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting much from this keyboard, even at the higher price that it was set at. But over the past week that I've become accustomed to it, the keys look and feel fantastic on my fingers. I'll say right now that typing is AN ABSOLUTE JOY on this thing! I can work long hours into the night and not bother turning on any task lighting, since the backlights are so bright.
The functionality and the media controls are a great bonus as well, and they're clearly distinguishable since they are colored differently (dull orange) than the actual letter, function, and number keys (white). And the look of the keyboard on my work surface is stunning. I'm getting compliments for something I'd never expect to be complimented on!
So thank you Logitech for a fantastic product!

Nice and thin. At night, keys are pretty silent, the illumination does make typing a lot more easier at night.
The keys have so far not failed me, unlike other cheap ones that does not have the spring under the key it eventually doesn't bounce up anymore... This is an excellent keyboard that I would recommend to my friends. Thank Logitech

Let me start right off by saying, this is a darn good keyboard. I'd been spoiled by the backlit keyboards on my MacBook Pros, and found myself wanting that feature in other situations when I’m not using the keyboard on the machine itself. At home, I often work in low-light settings, with an external monitor & keyboard, so it was always a small annoyance that I could never see the keys of my external keyboard in those situations. So I set out to find a backlit external keyboard. And to be honest, there really weren't very many products to look at. There were some dreadful-looking (and EVEN MORE expensive) keyboards made primarily for gamers, from companies like Saitek & Deck. But I'm not a gamer, and these keyboards just looked offensive to me. I pretty much narrowed it down to 2 products: This one & another one from a company called (similarly) Logisys. As the Logisys costs less than half as much as this one, it was easy to make the decision to go for that one initially. And to be fair, the Logisys is a nice keyboard. A formidable option if you don't want to drop the extra cash on this one. But I couldn't let go of my curiosity about this one, as there were just a few little niggles on the Logisys that made me keep wondering about this one. So I finally just bit the bullet, and paid more than I've ever expected to spend on a keyboard. So, now that I have them BOTH, and have tested them side-by-side, what do I think? Well, as I said, the Logisys (the other one) IS nice. It's well-constructed, and it gives you a choice of either blue or red illumination. But the keys are a bit sticky, the action just OK, and the illumination isn't quite as bright as I'd like. And while the blue illumination is OK (the red is just not my cup of tea at all), I'd much prefer something a bit brighter, and NOT colored; something more akin to the illumination I get from the MacBook Pro keyboard. Honestly, had I not tried this one, I probably would have been content to carry on using the Logisys. But I DID try this one. And I’m glad I did. Because once you have, there’s really no going back. The Logitech (this one) is clearly the superior product. It's sleek, elegant, and VERY well-crafted. The action is EXCELLENT, and the illumination is even & bright. It is a very professional-looking keyboard, and a joy to type on. Despite all those positives, though, it still seems (to me) a bit overpriced for what you ultimately get. It is just a keyboard after all (how ever nice it may be). I think a more accurate price for this keyboard would be about $30-40. I know that this product is less than half the price of their diNovo Edge Keyboard, but those are, in my mind, ridiculously priced, and I could never dream of spending so much for a keyboard. I believe that Logitech is, ultimately, aiming at a very narrow margin of people who care about such things as the action of their keyboard, and illumination, and are willing to pay for it. Hopefully, there are enough people to warrant the continued manufacture of this product, but I'd be happy to simply see the price come down a bit. When you're thinking about spending this much on a keyboard, it's very easy to ignore the quality & seek out something cheaper (as I did initially). Logitech will probably lose a few sales because of this. It's a darn good product, but a tad overpriced in my opinion.

Overall, this has been an excellent keyboard. It feels great to type on and has even survived one spill. However, just like laptop keyboards, the keys are sometimes prone to coming off of their supports, which can be fairly frustrating. Also, the keys tend to show the oil from your fingers after prolonged typing. Nevertheless, this is still a sleek, ergonomic keyboard with few faults.

Typing at night was the reason I bought this.Saitek also offers an illuminated keyboard, but it looks very ugly like a cheap toy. This keyboard is very nice looking. Large charaters on each button and nicely lit.Lacks wireless and attached wrist pad does get finger prints. Its a simple keyboard made for the dark.

i am photographer , i work late at night while my family is sleeping. photoshop/editing is much easier with the lights off. the key stroke is deep you kind of feel when you made a slip in typing. if you work in the dark this is your keyboard. i am very happy. i dont have to use a lamp to high light the keyboard.

I bought this yesterday and fell in love with it right away. Everything about it is so perfect. Simple design yet slick. Pricey of course but really worth it.
I'm typing using DVORAK layout and I found this keyboard to be truly suited for reasons I can't explain. Maybe better ergonomics and key distance just right? No idea. But it's just work awesome.
Initially I had a bit of reservation with the backlit as I don't want the light from the keyboard to distract me while watching movie. But you can turn it off with couple of button press. And more importantly, that works in Linux as well.
So my suggestion to Logitech. Don't stop making this product - market it well and people will buy it. It's really a great product.

Finally I found my keyboard. Perfect touch and feel. Keys are smooth and doesn't make noise while typing.
Illuminated keyboard looks nice in the dark but how frequently will we be in the dark while using the computer?
I am surprised the Function keys are not illuminated.
Overall this is one of the best keyboard Logitech has ever come up with.

My absolute favorite keyboard so far, and I've tried MANY. I've been searching for the "perfect" keyboard for almost two years now - and have spent hundreds on the search. I've tried everything from Razer Lycosa to Siatek Eclipse II.
Being that I don't always want to work under bright light, an illuminated keyboard was a must. But most of them are poorly designed or horribly tacky - targeted at gamers only. This one is very sleek and the illumination is perfect.
Pros:
* Great key feel, very similar to the Apple keyboards - maybe even better.
* Lights up so only the letters glow white - not between the keys like many others.
* Perfect amount of light (adjustable)
* Very sleek looking - not tacky like many of the others (hint: Siatek). Awesome design.
* Has an insert key (small one)
* Really easy to read the keys - night or day.
* No drivers required (like with the Razer)
Cons:
* No scroll lock key - does that matter?
* Large delete key (double size) and the insert key is a half sizekey where Scroll Lock would be.
* Function keys are half-size like Apple and not illuminated as well as the other keys. This is probably my biggest gripe. The Function keys double as the "media" keys - a popular design. But they lit the media part of the design, not the function part. So for example the <play> symbol is lit, not the F11. Why not light both?
* Where is my built in USB hub? For $70 (street price) give me a couple of ports.
Did I mention the key feel? Simply fantastic.
I think this one is a keeper.

This keyboard is kinda wierd to me. It is too expensive to be a normal office keyboard but not good enough to be a gaming keyboard.
Gamers be warned; this keyboard uses scissor switches, and feels a lot like a standard laptop's buttons. The tactile response is very bad for gaming unless you grew up on scissor switches. Another bad thing about this keyboard is that it has no anti-ghosting. This means that if you are doing multiple actions at once, some of them will not register. The lack of this feature is enough to turn me away from buying one.
Another warning: although it is advertised as silent, and it is if you press down very slowly, if you are typing fast you will definitely hear a plastic clicky sound that is not nice like the IMB M series or Das Keyboard.
Lights and media keys work fine and well, although I never need to look at the keys.
Assuming this keyboard was designed mainly for non gamers, it's very expensive. Other reviews say that it is worth it, but I'm talking from the point of a Das Keyboard Blank user, so you may disagree.

1'st of all let me say that Logitech's customer service is the very best !!! This keyboard has "larger, easy to see lettering and button size" and a "great feel" with each touch, resulting in less typing error's and faster correspondence, for us baby bommers (and others) that's great. Also, there is no delay as I have experienced with my bluetooth MX5000. It has the right amount of features and you'll be happy your purchased this wonderful illuminated keyboard...

I've been through many, MANY keyboards all with the intent of finding a keyboard that meets my three requirements.
1) Illuminated keys THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE
2) Laptop style keys that operate smoothly
3) Must be good for gaming
These keyboard EXCELS at all three!
The pure white LED light creates an image of clean perfection and precision like no other keyboard on the market.
But it's not just an image, this thing types so smoothly, smoothly and quietly that even Logitech would be hard-pressed to top.
Also, many illuminated keyboards are big clunky monsters. This one is sleek and thin, yet heavy, which keeps it from moving around during frantic gaming.
Another problem with other illuminated keyboards is that the coating on the keys that is used to block out the light (except for the part that reveals the letters) rubs off on the WASD keys very quickly. This keyboard has the letters laser-etched from the underside, so there's no WAY to rub off the coating.
As for gaming macros, the buttons on top can be used for that purpose. The software allows them to be programmed for just about anything.
Best keyboard I've EVER used!
The ONLY way to improve on this would be to allow the color of the LED's to be changed.

I used this keyboard intensively for a month on a very dark room. The most significant flaw I consider here is that the function keys( F1 to F12) are not illuminated. You can hardly see the F keys.
I think the keyboard is too thin for my preference. I placed this keyboad on top of the packaging box to give it some elevation from the table.
I think they also should also illuminate the space key. A long thin illuminated line on this key will make this look more better,
the usb cable looks so flimsy for me. its too thin. and feels less durable than my other keyboards. I understand the keyboard being thin. but cmon the cable doesnt have to be very thin..
aside from all of that negative comments, this keyboard has a very nice stroke and it is not as noisy as compared to generic keyboard.

Bought this with a VX Revolution. Having used a MX5500, I find this keyboard better to type on, as the keys feel much better. It takes a little while getting used to the slightly different spacing, but it took me roughly an hour or so to type without accidentally touching anything else. The lighting is superb, I don't really have much criticism for it, other than it doesn't have a few more hot keys, but most of those aren't used anyways and plus the FN+F[x] keys work fine, just requires reaching a bit more :) Or maybe they could of also made the Logitech logo light up, who knows.
Great balance of noise/typing feeling. Its not loud, but not totally silent either. Lighting and keyboard quality are great.

Since I use a Mac and run both XP and OS 10.5 I was concerned about what keys would and would not work on the Mac. I was pleasantly surprised to find the sound keys and the disk eject keys work, also the power dialog can be brought up by pressing the FN+CTRL+disk eject key. I don't care that much about the other F keys so I'm quite happy with this keyboard. I works well in Mac OS 10 and works great in Windows XP.
