So i bought a G9x to replace an aging MS sidewinder and noticed that the g9 is a bit smaller than the sidewinder, and the precision grip didn't help much. after gaming for a bit I've almost gotten used to it but i guess its not made for those with big hands (18 cm wrist to tip of middle finger 9cm from side to side) since mine dominate this mouse. one thing i don't like is the placement of the scroll wheel switch IMHO it should have been place in front or behind of the wheel as its quite annoying to switch now. I was skittish about going back to a mouse with teflon feet but man are these smooth makes ice feel like sand paper. Over all though i feel its well made and very sturdy and should last as long or longer than the MSSW.
the setpoint software is another fish entirely, its not laid out well IMO and might take some getting used to as navigating through all the settings can become confusing.

I recently got my Logitech G9x from a friendly local seller. Overall, it is a really good mouse and really suits my needs. Here will be my review of the main features of this amazing mouse.
Appearance:
For one thing, I really like the appearance of the mouse. It may be a little plain to others, but it really suits my tastes. I prefer the smaller grip because of its slightly rough, non-slip texture. The larger grip is ok as well but for gaming, I prefer the rough grip.
Size:
The size is perfect imo. It's not that big nor is it too small. Please take note though that I'm only 5'5" so I'm a small guy. My hands aren't that big, but are bigger than most guys my height or slightly taller. The size is also good for a claw grip. I tried the palm grip as well, but it felt nowhere near comfortable as a claw grip. For people with bigger hands, I recommend that you try out the mouse first since you may find it small.
Buttons:
The buttons are nicely built and don't feel loose when you click them. The buttons available are 7 and are completely customizable with the use of the software that came along with the mouse. If you don't feel like using the software, the buttons on the side of the mouse can be used as a back or forward button for the web pages, while the buttons with the plus and minus sign can change the DPI of the mouse to certain values which are factory set.
Scroll wheel:
One thing I really like about the scroll wheel is the ability to change it to gated scrolling and smooth scrolling. Personally, I prefer the gated scrolling since it is best for weapons switching in FPS. The smooth scrolling is best for scrolling through web pages.
Laser:
The various settings of the DPI of the laser is the best feature of this mouse. You can have up to 5 settings for the set DPI of the mouse per profile. As I mentioned earlier, the DPI can be changed via plus and minus buttons found on the mouse. The lights of the mouse indicate both the profile and the current level of the DPI of the mouse which is totally dependent on your settings.
Additional Features:
I love the idea of having changeable weights for the mouse. With the package came four 4g weights and four 7g weights. You can use any combination of the weights and have up to 28g. This is perfect for those who prefer both light and heavier mice. Just change the weights to suit your preference.
I give this mouse a 5 out of 5. It's totally perfect for my needs and is really comfortable to use. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. My opinions however are based on personal preference so it's still up to you to make the final decision. I will upload some pictures later on.

Would be the best mouse if they would of fixed a few things. One of the problems I have with this mouse is the rough grip, I like it but when my hands start to sweat it dulls down the roughness of the grip and makes it smooth which feels nasty and I tried to wash it but it made it worse. Also are the sliders on the bottom, I don't know why but they GRIND across my gaming mouse pad which has to be the most annoying feeling in the world and it also scratches it. I tried different mouse pads but it's the same result which is why I wouldn't recommend this product to my friends. Oh and the switch profile button and the scroll wheel buttons should be on the top of the mouse.

This product is worth the money that you will pay for it. The G9x will definitely change the way that you look at mouses. However, I can not recommend anyone to buy this product YET. With the G9x out, the G9 is no longer being produced, so the G9 is being sold at half off at any of your local retailers. Essentially the same mouse at half the price, when it is already worth the full price, is definitely a good thing. And if the G9 is already sold out everywhere you look, then just get a G9x. It isn't like you're losing anything, it's just that you could gain more right now by buying the G9.

This mouse is slick. The interchangeable grips are nice, but no real big difference. Super quick, very accurate and able to modify the weight. The grip is a little weird with either grip on. The sleeved, super-long cord is also a nice touch. Works great on any mousepad, and most surfaces. Good job, Logitech!

Pros:
-Huge amount of features
-Completely customisable
-Very high max DPI
-Superb build quality
-Best mouse for fingertip grip
-Thumb buttons are responsive and well placed
Cons:
-Not for people who have small hands. Also not the best for palm grippers / claw grippers.
-Scroll wheel is quite loose and could be firmer with each click
-Middle mouse button is far too stiff and does not give tactile feedback
- DPI buttons are oddly placed
Overall:
Great mouse from Logitech. There are quite a few bad points of this mouse but they are quite minor and are not that bad. However the good points very quickly make you forget about the small problems. Thanks Logitech.

First of I want to say i really like this mouse! It's smooth and slick, fast and responsive, precise and high quality!
It's got good palm support and and thumb support, but it has very poor little finger support! And this is what bother me the most with it! Either my pinky scrapes the mousepad or I get cramps over longer sessions of use. This is for my hand the same experience I have with the G5 and VX revolution.
This is easy to fix with the G9, since it has changeable grips.
So Logitech, more grips please! :) for bigger hands, with TRUE little finger support, please!
The other thing with the G9 is the placement of the DPI buttons. They are not easy to use in fast gameplay. Seems Logitech has solved it with the G500, but that shell has no pinky support again, soo....
I truly hope Logitech takes pinky support in gaming seriously one day. I love Logitech products. (Got G5, G9, G15, G51, VX revo, and wanting G35, G25, G13, maybe G19 and G500 looked nice even though I fear for pinky pain ;) )

The Logitech G9 gaming mouse is by far the best mouse I have ever used, it's intuitive weight customization system and excellent dpi range make this mouse perfect for anyone, not just gamers.
Buttons:
The buttons are very easy to handle and work just like you'd expect, they don't have that stupid one piece of plastic for a button thing which is good as they're sometimes hard to press and unneccesary. The middle mouse button is easy enough to click but may get slightly tiring if you use it very often. The on-the-fly DPI settings buttons are discretely hidden where your left finger lays and trust me theres NO WAY you will click it by mistake. The buttons on the side are easy to press in but are high up making it hard to press them by mistake. Scrolling is excellent with the smooth mode turned on and its fun to play with but the computer takes a while to catch up to the fact that youve stopped scrolling and its a pretty useless features but is fun to play with nevertheless, it's very fun to spin and watch it spin for like a minute. It may be useful to have more buttons for some people but I'm fine as I'm not really into loads of buttons for mice.
Feel:
The feel of the mouse is very nice and it feels lovely in your hand, but even though I for some reason prefer the wide grip, it hurts my thumb after a while and I have no idea why. This doesn't happen on the precision grip but i wanted to stick with the wide load grip anyway. If you have smaller hands or sweaty palms you should go with the precision grip because it feels excellent if your hands are tired. But I prefer the wide load grip as it is much more comfortable for every day usage and lets face it, you will inevitably use this as an every day mouse. The weights feature is extremely useful and is the ultimate degree of fine tuning. The mouse come with a case with eight holes in filled with four, four gram weights and four, seven gram weights, these can be placed in a compartment that pops out of the case-less mouse (you can't see the compartment with the case on) and allows for four weights to be added, up to 28 grams. This feature is extremely usefull for if you dont like the center of balance of the mouse without any weight, or want to simulate the weight of a wireless mouse with batteries. I load it with two seven gram weights at the back and two four gram weights at the front to make the center of gravity at the back of the mouse.
Look:
This mouse looks as good as it feels with it's stealth bomber style look which alot of gaming mouses adopt. I wasn't too sure about the looks at first but then I changed my mind when I actually got the mouse. The LEDs are excellent and are really easy to customize with the "SetPoint" software, I wish you could choose a custom colour from a pallet (is that possible to implement?) but they are a great indicator. The interface takes a little getting used to but it is fairly basic, being able to associate multiple games with one profile is excellent though! The mouse is very attractive and even looks cool without a grip on (theres these grills obscured by the grip but why have them there if it will nearly always have a grip on?) It's obviously not designed for not having a grip because there's two pieces of metal to hold the grip on that protude a tiny bit!
Conclusion:
This mouse is definately worth the money and is an excellent all around purchase and by far the best mouse on the market today! I don't know about the G9x (I have a G9) but the sensitivity of the mouse is by far enough with 3200 dpi! 5000 dpi is just ridiculous, unless your monitor is a cinema screen thats like 10000 x 10000 or something ridiculous (hey wait...would that even matter anyway?) The mouse is nearly uncontrollable at 3200 but its sometimes nice for Unreal Tournament 3 on close quaters maps (just press dpi plus and your there! =D)
Pros:
Looks like a bomber
Easy to handle
Blazingly precise
On-the-fly dpi
Excellent scroll wheel
Lovely LEDs
Lovely tough rope cable
Cons:
Wide load grip makes my hand ache
Not massive amounts of buttons
No custom colours but still massive pallete with about 100 colours or something

When you are down in the trenches of Unreal Tournament (2004 or III), you need the heavy iron. And the G9 is just what Sarge ordered. If you are a Mac user here is how to get full support for all features: Purchase the OS X driver/prefs-panel called "SteerMouse" ($20). It will give you all the customization you need.
If you have Boot Camp, or access to a PC, you can run Logitech's configuration package also. Highly recommended: set the G9's report rate to the minimum 150 per sec, which is the standard that OS X expects. With all that resolution, you are only flooding the USB bus with repeat numbers at higher report rates -- why do it?
The mouse has Flash-RAM and retains the various profiles which you can match to SteerMouse settings. Bingo -- full support! And it is absolutely worth it!

I upgraded to this mouse from a MX500 and I'm completely blown away. The mouse moves so smoothly across my mousepad or desk, the adjustable DPI is downright awesome for FPS games and the customizable LED's are a fun little touch. I wish it felt more like the G5 that I was also looking at, as it had the same grip as the MX500. It feels a bit short. If you like to have your entire palm on the mouse and have normal sized hands this may be a bit strange feeling. The price made me cringe but I was feeling like spoiling myself and you definately do with this mouse.

When I first got this mouse running I was shocked about how I could change everything about it to make it they mouse that would sute me best. The weight changing is my favorite part about it. I play rpg games and this is just great for it. If you have ever played a rpg before you would know that Keybindings are a must (at least for World of Warcraft). It is nice to have this mouse for just online use and offline use. this is the best mouse I have ever used! If you are looking for a new mouse for gaming, Internet surfing and just normal computer stuff. Must buy this mouse!

This is the 2nd Logitch mouse I bought within half a year and again it has the same problem like the last one: It's so hard to press the middle mouse button that one inevitably scrolls the wheel at the same time - causing unwanted behaviour.
Developers could just as likely have left out the MMB at all. It's useless.
I expect a high-priced product like this to also be high quality - especially in "simple" details. Therefore I only grant one star in overall rating.

it is very customizable.
u can change its weight / shape / size / feel / scrolling
u can switch between profiles, which it stores on the mouse in case u change pc.
plus, u can change sensitivity on the fly.
it is short/small which makes it great for fps and rts.
it could have been a lot better, by adding a couple more thumb buttons on the left and like one on the right for rpg players. (-features)
one thing i noticed was that the grips were not so well made, i even had to trim their bottoms a bit so its edges dont scratch on the desk, which gave me goosebumps like scratching a blackboard :P (-quality)
9/10
PS: i am not a lefty, but i think they should make it for left handers as well. at least via custom order.

I tried upgrading from the G5 to the G9, but the shape just does not work for my hand. All of the weight of your hand rests on the heel, while your fingers float above the buttons because of the drop off. On the G5, the mouse fills your hand and the pressure is more evenly spread. The G9 feels like some kind of brick in the hand.
The laser in the G9 died after 1 week and I will not be replacing it.

Waited several weeks before I could find a place to buy this online, just got it this week and have been using it for several days. I've gotta say it is a very good mouse, tracks beautifully in games like cod:waw, L4D, TF2 on cheap black mouse pad. The included logitech setpoint software allows for everything you could ever want to be customized. Switching to the hyper fast scrolling for web browsing is incredible for those long forums or blogs. This was a upgrade from a mx518 mouse I've had for about 3 years and wanted to upgrade to something new, I'm glad I did!

I have had this mouse for over a year not and am still loving it. it is a great mouse with its many adaptable options. i loving using the DPI adjustor while gaming to go from fast scans of an area to precsion for that perfect sniper shot. I have found that i adjust the weight in the mouse alot depending on what type of surface i use it on. it tracks on everything, Ive even used my own pant leg! I took mine to Iraq and back and its still going strong. Well worth its price.

Good ergonomics, fits hand well. Used the 518 gaming mouse for years, took me 3 or 4 days to get use to it and which weights felt comfortable to use. The profiler is the best part, set up many profiles. Tiger Woods 08, for example, you can set variable X axis and Y axis, and they are not the same. Example: X axis @ 1600 dpi and Y axis at 200 dpi, I don't slice or hook and get awsome power shots, 445 yards is my best.
