I loved this mouse! I had a job doing more than 30,000 clicks a day on an online chat.. plus I play a bit of Starcraft2 now and then. I loved the size (it is huge and very ergonomic and fixed all my aches and pains on the job! I have tiny girl hands, so if you're worrying about the size - Don't... after a week of getting used to a bigger mouse you will never want to go back! - my workfriends called it a spaceship, haha). I also loved the length of the cord, I never had to shift my computer under my desk to get any extra mileage on the cord!
What I didn't like:
Because I was moving the mouse around a lot (taking it to and from work and moving it from my laptop to my computer) the fabric coating on the cord over the top of the rubber covering the wires moved (started to scrunch up) quite a bit and I ended up having a hole where the rubber was protruding. Fearing that bending the wire might end up ruining the mouse I had to break the fabric a little which didn't affect the mouse's operation at all but wasn't very nice to look at.
After 1 year and 7 months of use my beloved mouse died this week. I never expected a mouse that I paid so much for ($80 here in Israel) would ever die and after a year. I think I threw out the original receipt (kicking myself now to see people have 3 year warranties!) Wish I had read these reviews before I purchased as I can see it is such a common problem for the mouse to die and need replacing! I don't know if it would have made me buy a different mouse but I would have kept my receipt for a replacement/fix... Think I'm going to upgrade to something with darkfield lazer tracking for user on glass but I will be 100% sure to keep my warranty in a safe place this time! :( I miss my mousey!

This is by far the best mouse around until it wears down, and I went through 3 of these. So my only complaint is durability of the mouse, either the left mouse button stops responding or the internal software/system stops working in which case it becomes useless.
I really would like to see the design and features get carried over into a more long lasting shell. Better parts is what I mean, it's really the only vice that's keeping it from being perfect.
Also this mouse would benefit IF it had an option for usb 3.0.

Very accurate. Nice feel. Never a problem with the lazer. Easy to program. Speed excellent especially since it is adjustable. The only negative (and it is a big one) is that I had four of these replaced in the three year warrantee period - for the same problem each time. It tends to short out, ie, has no power probably due to a chord issue. True, it was replaced without much question each time, however, half the time I had to return the old one; unnecessary and a pain in the butt plus there is the down time until the new one arrives. Issue for the design engineers.

I was doing some research on actual line of logitech mouses usefull for business (clients...) and i found a BAD review on the G500, I totally CAN NOT relate to it... i actually consider that this person must be really unlucky to have a defective one, since my scroll wheel runs smoothly, without noise and very very fast, on a sligth sensitite touch of my fingers. The rest of the mouse, the gaming options, precision options, the software, all is to me the best i've ever used (and I've used and wasted alot), with more than 8 hours of daily computing time, between job and gaming, my hardware is usually good or wasted, and logitech mouses have always gone a long way with me, this G500 is great general and business use mouse (altough, it will be overqualified), its superb for graphic design and CAD/CAM for its precision options, and for programming and research (wheel..) its fantastic, I've never enyoted reading .pdf so much as I do know with this mouse, and looking into extensive documents or list... it helps A LOT. The only "minus" for me, its that I can seem to use the wheel on openSuse.

A friend of mine recommended this mouse for daily use, that mostly included scrolling large technical documentations, Web browsing and development of Mobile Applications for Android.
I did not buy this mouse for gaming, but gaming hardware has pretty high precision and performance requirements that can be used out side of the gaming world for a fair price.
The mouse has excellent precision, it's easy to select text, drag and drop controls in visual editors, and it fits good in large palms. Switching DPI's on the fly is excellent for doing precision dragging and dropping and positioning GUI elements in visual editors, doing work in GIMP and navigating High Resolution monitors (27" Cinema Display).
The cursor precision is excellent. 6 out of 5. Million times better than the Magic Mouse. But I'm still using the Magic Mouse because of the catastrophic scroll wheel found on the G500.
G500 has an incredibly bad scrolling wheel. It's flaky, shakes a lot, middle click usually activates left or right scrolling feature or the up-down standard scrolling. And it produces rattling sounds when you move the mouse (it's normal it rattles if you scroll the wheel). The wheel wobbles about and it's not very accurate. Catastrophic for a "gamer" mouse. Terrible.
If you only use other mouse buttons, skip the middle click and avoid the wheel, then you might be satisfied. Like my friend that recommended me this mouse. He doesn't care about the rattle of the mouse wheel because he only uses it for scrolling, and he doesn't care about it's precision. My old MX518 which it replaced had better middle click, scroll wheel and Mac support without extra costs (Steermouse anyone?).
You will find similar reviews from other people on blogs. Google it.
3/5 overall, sorry. Excellent precision and overall experience is ruined because of the bad scroll wheel and middle click.

Best mouse I have ever owened. My MX-518 when out and it was time to look for something new. I grabbed this little puppy and figured all the extra fancies wouldnt be utilized except for inside my gaming. I was wrong, I macro soo many things I do in exel, access, chrome, photoshop, and so many more.
Awesome feature set. Great durability, almost 2 years and this mouse is still kickin and clickin like it was brand spanking new! Great comfort, my hand has never gotten tired from long hours of gaming. Weight tooning comes in handing when I use the dpi buttons for switching from MMO's to FPS, I can just slip the weight tray in and click one button, off I go.
The absolute best mouse I have come across in my many years of gaming and IT life. I love the mouse soo much I almost want to buy one for my work so that I can have a quality, durable, programmable mouse.
Would totally recommend!

Logitech simply does not support Macs. If you're running a Mac, get a gaming mouse which is natively supported by its manufacturer. Logitech's SetPoint software to map buttons to keystrokes doesn't work on Macs. If you want to use the extra buttons, you have to buy a $20 third-party driver. Have fun spending hours configuring it for every game you play a new game and reconfiguring it when you switch games. They also don't do everything SetPoint does, despite what they claim. For example, SetPoint will let you configure what happens when you press shift, then click a button. Third party Mac drivers can't detect the combination of of the keyboard stroke and mouse press.
Still, the G500 is a fantastic mouse for Windows gaming.

I've been using MX518's for years, whenever they start going bad I buy another one because they perform well, feel comfortable, and are affordable.
Last month my 518 started to show signs of aging so I decided I would go with a with a higher end mouse, So I got this one.
The G500 is amazing, everything the MX518 has and more. There is two issues I have with this mouse:
The texture on the mouse itself is a rougher feel to it and for some reason it makes my hand sweat a lot, which is really annoying.
Secondly, I used the middle mouse click a lot when gaming, and this new mouse has advanced features like side clicking and ability to free roll which makes clicking the wheel a lot harder to do and half the times it doesn't register.
Over all it is a big improvement from the 518 but I cannot game with sweaty hands and the wheel clicking is getting me killed so I will most likely be buying a different model.
On a side note, Logitech makes amazing products, and I will continue buying them. I Currently use their Mice, Keyboards, Speakers, Headsets, and Web Cams!

This is without a doubt one of the most lovingly-crafted gaming mice I've ever used - and I've bought just about every one that Logitech has ever made. Most certainly the best of the bunch when it comes to "full sized" PC gaming mice on the entire market right now.
The ergonomics fit your hand just perfectly if you're right handed (I'm not sure how it will feel for lefties, it seems like they'd have some issue), the groove on the side is grooved just right and the texture is rough and matte enough not to pick up grease or sweat from long gaming sessions.
The buttons are springy and responsive, even after 2 years of steady usage playing primarily MMOs and FPS games. The only issue I really have the mouse as a whole is the button to engage the mouse wheel gear - it is very flimsy and has a tendency to stick or even sink into the mouse housing as a whole, or not engage/disengage the gear. I really wish this part was made better. I've even had a friend who owns the same model of mouse tell me that she's had to send it back several times to get it fixed or replaced for this issue alone. I've never had it break on me, but it does have its faults. My suggestion would be: don't switch scrolling modes. Just get used to using one or the other and LEAVE IT ALONE. Other than that, everything else works PERFECTLY.
The on-the-fly DPI switching combined with the heavily modifiable software to change the 5 different levels of DPIs that you use in INVALUABLE in FPS games where you might switch from the run-and-gun snap-shots of an SMG to a sniper rifle where careful precision could save your life, and it's just as easy as firing your gun. The DPI switching buttons are never in your way, either - and if you're playing MMOs or browsing and don't need to switch DPIs - they're entirely re-programmable to give you 2 more buttons at your disposal!
The included weight pack really help you beef up the mouse - or do just the opposite and leave it light as a feather - thanks to the mouse being corded and having no weighty wireless internals. I love my mouse to be heavy in my hand, precise, and I don't like it to slide around when I nudge it, so I have the heaviest weights in there and keep them there. I've never had any issues. The slip pads on the bottom do wear down after a while though so make sure you have some spares (I think some were included with the mouse, not sure) or just keep good care of them. Buy a good, slick and solid, matte-surface mousepad for laser mice! I use an old "fuzzy" mousepad and one of mine on the side slides off every 6 months or so. When it does slip off I just place it back into its grooves and it's fine for quite a while after.
The extra buttons are nice for gaming, and for browsing the internet, the button the middle of the side array (underneath the "Forward" and "Back" buttons) is above and beyond what most mice come with these days. It is VERY handy in MMOs as a shift "modifier" key so you can fit twice as many abilities in finger's reach. A real boon for any MMO gamer that doesn't want to spring for a ridiculous 300-button "MMO" mouse.
I can use this mouse for hours and my hands never get tired, as I've had trouble with on some other manufacturer's mice in the past. I have CTS, big hands, and game hard - this is like aiming with a pillow. It's very natural.
Overall WELL worth the money - a more than worthy successor to the Almighty MX518 - every bit as form-fitting and featured as its ancestor with plenty of added goodies gamers won't know how they got along without. Just watch out for that wonky scrolling mode gear key. Hope this was helpful to you!

I have been using the G500 for 3 months now and I am completely satisfied with my decision to go back to this concept of mouse.
I used the mx-518 for about 4 years before it gave out (LOTs of hard use), and then upgraded to several other mice including MS-Sidewinder, G9, Razor Lachesis, and a few others. Finally I said I want to go back to my old mouse and have been happy ever since.
The G500 is a solidly built mouse that feels like it is built for a purpose. The curves on the mouse fit most hands perfectly well and button placement was well thought out in the design. The added features of profile switching, custom configs, and weight adjustment are bonus that make what was (IMO) the best gaming mouse ever made an even better tool for advanced users.
If you do not game heavily or do not need a fancy mouse, this is still the mouse for you. the g500 is easy to use and extremely comfortable. It will last you and your family several years of use.
I can't say enough about this mouse. Logitech made a great choice in G500. Anyone who used the MX-518 will tell you, it was one of the best mice ever made, and the G500 is a perfect second generation version that is well worth the purchase.

This mouse is perfect in every way! It's comfortable, lots of helpful buttons, I love the hyper scroll, those weights helped A LOT, since I love a heavier mouse. The most important thing is: it's big. Fits in hand perfectly, and I love to feel the mouse, so I put some wights in it. Every. Single. Detail. is great. Couldn't be happier! Absolutely the best mouse for gaming-- ever! Compared to other mice in it's price range, it makes them look useless. Compared to other mice in it's features range, it beats them in price, far less expensive and has a quality of the most expensive mice. Overall: I recommend it to anyone who wants a gaming mouse, great features, quality and price. Also, a tip: use it in a combination with Steelseries Qck mouse pad.

The micro-switches for its two biggest buttons can NOT stand 8 million clicks at all!!! The product has a warranty period of 3 years, but the mouse's LEFT BUTTON started double-clicking when I clicked once after about just 6 months of FPS games. I had to take it back for a free replacement. It may not be the fault of Logitech, but Logitech should correct the specification page about the number of clicks before failure.

The scrolling options on this mouse allows great control over you camera in games. The cursor sensitivity buttons on the mouse is hands down great for anything you do, from video games, to music editing, to art. The weights are pretty helpful because where I prefer a heavier mouse, someone else may prefer a lighter mouse. As far as constructive criticism goes... I love corded mice, and I hate wireless mice because of the batteries and the connectivity issues, but this mouse needs a better cord. I don't completely understand why the cord is made so stiff. It's malleable, so you can bend it the way you want it, but it doesn't flow well on my desk. It tangles with itself and hooks itself onto random things on my desk because of how stiff it is. Even though it rarely messes me up in my games, it's just one more thing to fix if it wants to be perfect.

After my last two mice that ended up biting the dust way too early and being terrible (they were not Logitech), I finally went back to "old faithful" and got a Logitech. I really, really wanted my mouse to have more buttons for gaming, but they didn't offer one that I could find. I'm glad that it's wired, because batteries are a pain.
This mouse is comfortable and easy to use. I love the settings that the software lets you play around with, and I really like the macro editor. The extra weight system is not really my thing... but maybe some people need it? I tried it with the full weight, and then completely empty, and it doesn't feel like it makes much of a difference for me.
I dunno, bottom line is, this mouse is affordable and easily the best one I've owned thus far. Highly recommended.

I bought two of these barely a month ago, and soon came to a very big disappointment.
When I first set it up, the configuration was a breeze, and assigning all the keys wasn't much work at all. But not even 4 weeks after using it regularly to play World of Warcraft, my Right, and Left click buttons have started to wear out. Sometimes while pressing down on the Right Click button, it will stutter and not click correctly. Even though the sounds of the mouse "click" Is heard, the action is not carried out. Followed by a few more extra clicks to get it to work, the command still doesn't take. I have a feeling it's the cheap plastic material it's made out of. I had read many reviews saying that this mouse was a great addition to any Desktop, and truly expected better performance. But that is just not the case with this mouse. If your looking to buy, save yourself the frustration and look for another.

I have been using MX518's for years and love them. I use my mice as dual use; gaming and internet surfing. I bought this hoping for an even better MX518 for gaming. This hope did not materialize. It may be the unit coming empty of the adjustable weights, but my initial impression was one of thin, cheap plastic. Once I loaded it up with the weights it felt better. The other issue is the detent for the scroll wheel is too strong. You do have an option to disengage, but if you do want a detent, yet lighter you are out of luck.
I continue to use my MX518 on my main computer and relegated the G500 to my work laptop where I spend less time.

This mouse mouse has worked fully as expected and so far has performed great. There has been no walls hit or jumpiness with movement which other mice sometimes have and the highly adjustable weight allows for compensation for the springiness of the cord.
The one issue I've had with it though is that the design often leaves my pinky dragging on the mouse pad due to there being no rest on that side of the mouse.
One concern I do have is the that the cord appears to be wrapped similarly to their g35 headset. The issue being that the with time the nylon wrapping can get bunched up or loosened which restricts the movement of the cord.

The cord is woven and looks great and ends the cord snags. The scroll lock/release is very nice for browsing long pages.
What always sells me on logitech is the ergonomics. Perfect fit. Whether you are a far front hang ten mouse stance or a backend kind of chill monkey the buttons are well leveraged. It has a pinky cubby for crying out loud.
If you are a tweak monkey there are all kinds of driver settings to play with. Seriously. But if you are a casual gamer this is, forgive me, plug and play. It has preset toggles for going through dpi built into it. This satisfies the gamer that likes to snipe in fps and needs a solid mouse that they can form an intimate bond with. Mine's name is Jeddy 3. That's all Im saying. Worthy of a name.
This is a large upgrade from my 510 mouse. That was my favorite mouse of all time until this one.
The only thing I would say that is critical is the logitech drivers and windows drivers sometimes step on each others toes and things get weird. Also in a few games like Fallout the menus are not at the same acceleration as the gameplay. Annoying but in no way a dealbreaker.
