Had to replace my precious Mx1000 due to its sudden desire to stop working. Funny that....only stopped when I need it the most. As for me I'm done with wireless gear. I needed the buttons the Mx1000 has but not the wireless unreliability so I chose the G500. Everything has been great and more so far, but I have to admit the rough grips on the side are my ONLY compliant. Not really sure why this was the go ahead option on such a fine piece of pc equipment, but, as has been my experience ppl who make the important decisions in management dont have a clue what they are making decisions on. This is a great mouse to be sure. The rough grip would not stop me from using it full time, but you may want to get your hands on it 1st before you spend the hard earned dough.

I tried this mouse for a couple of days, but decided to return it, the product is just a bit to lacking.
(Little bit of history i've used the mx510, 518 and G5v2)
The biggest mistake i found on this mouse is the position of the laser, being it near the fingertips like a G9, its not really a good replacement for the G5 where the laser was more to the middle. The new location of the mouse makes it a fingertip mouse, and the mouse is rather large to use this way.
As a user who allways worked from the middle i had pains in my shoulder and elbow in under half an hour, becasue i needed to swivel the mouse arround more, its not so noticable in FPS games, but it is in RTS and RPG games, where you often have to use bigger movements.
Also now we have 3 thumbbuttons, while the this looks nice, their is one small problem, the buttons are all close together wich can make it hard to deferiate between them. Also if you have a large thumb, you risk touchimg, the middle one without meaning to do so, you can ofcourse disable it but this would defeat the purpose of there being a third button.
Now to the new mousewheel, i must say i prefer this to the one used in the G5 is a bit flatter on top, so you middlefinger actually rests better on it. The down point from the wheel however is that the side tild is way more sensitive then at the G5, only a little nudge (1mm) is enough to press it, so i ended up disabling these aswell, since everytime i so much as tried to scroll they reacted.
Now ofcourse there are also some cons to this mouse:
The big + on this mouse is the new thumbrest, making it much more comfortable then the previous models.
Also the positioning of the DPI buttons to the left is a good thing easy to press, not in the way.
The grip off the mice is good its large enough, and the sides feel rugged again, like they were at G5v2, personally i would have liked the top to be more rugged like the G5v2 aswell, but that just personal taste. Maybe this can be solved by changable covers on the next version, just like present now on the G9x.
Weight is pretty much the same as in the G5v2, i weighted these mouses, and they both weigh 140grams without cords. Also the G500 futures changable weights like the G5, allthough you can fit 2 less in, in my case thats not really a problem, but some people would might like to add more.
So to conclude, allthough it grips nicely, 3 of the 10 buttons are unusable making it a 7 button mouse the placements of the laser, makes it a fingertip mouse so its quite heavy to move in this form. If things like thse dont botter you, or if you are a user who switched from the previous models to aG9 i can only recommend it, if you dont like the fingertipcontroll, i reccommend you wait till the next version of this mouse is released.

This is basically the G9 in the shell of the G5. The buttons are in the right place unlike the G9. Very nice EXCEPT for the grip. I love the rough feel of it but after one week of use it's worn down and it feels smooth and gooey which is the dumbest thing they could of put on this mouse and the G9 second grip. They should come up with some grip that feels like this but can withstand one week of heavy use and doesn't get smoothed down.

this mouse was all i expected it to be and was true to the majority of reviews that rated it well, i was never planning to write a review, but i noticed one thing that i thought i should mention. ive noticed that the mouse emits a high pitch noise when the mouse is in a stand still position, r in other words when the mouse's laser is not being used. its similar to the mosquito noise in the fast that older people probably cant hear it being that im 16, not really a problem for me, but i thought it should be said, and hopefully make the logitech team aware if it is indeed a problem

I upgraded from my all-time favorite mouse, the MX518, to this mouse because it had more buttons and a better tracking system. In those aspects the G500 is clearly superior to the MX518.
However...
The coarse grip along the sides feels like sandpaper. It makes the whole mouse very irritating to grasp and causes my palms to sweat from the skin irritation. It is for this reason alone that I've switched back to my MX518. The smooth rubbery grip on the MX518 feels MUCH better than the rough plastic on the G500. Please do something about this Logitech. I can't recommend this mouse to anyone as long as it has a grip that feels like sandpaper...

I upgraded from a G5 to the G500, and the added features are a plus, especially the extra button on the side. One for the pinky would be even nicer though. G5 and G500 still track better than any of the Razor or powered by Razor mice. My only grip is the side to side scroll wheel buttons are way to easily pushed on accident. On an application mouse, it would be fine, but not for gaming. I had to disable my normal binds from G5 because of this. Other than that, the mouse is definately the one to choose for the high end gamer.

Upgraded from the MX518, and i am in love. The scroll wheel DOES click if you hit the button under it. If you hit the button again, it spins endlessly, which is awesome for long documents outside of gaming. The customizable dpi settings and weight make the mouse perfect for every user.
The only thing i dislike about the G500 is that the black grip along the sides is kind of a rough plastic rather than the soft and smooth plastic of the MX518. Its just a little problem that i will happily overlook.

I must admit some features on the G500 are much better than the previous G9: an extra button in the thumb arena, moving the two buttons on top to be more accessible by your index finger, smoother, better feel, etc.
However there are multiple problems with this mouse that make it inferior to the G9. The mouse wheel is a free scroll; it doesn't "click" per turn and is VERY sensitive so in games where you only want to scroll once, you end up scrolling endlessly. I also find that the wheel may spin up or down if I try to right or left mouse wheel click.
10 Buttons+the mouse wheel is nice but not when 3 of those buttons means scrolling your overly sensitive mouse wheel.
After purchasing this mouse I found that I although it had a better feel, many games became more difficult to play due to the freescroll and overly sensitive wheel.
If you're going to buy a mouse for gaming, make it the G9; the G500 has is much worse.

Common logitech..
I used G9 before which i liked a lot.
So I expected this G500 to be something like G9 features + G5 design.
and now what, no on board memory change, no led color changing?
Why would you remove the features you already made.
Please, let us change the led color and memory settings on mouse. this red LED is quite annoying.
Besides that, its a great mouse, but you know it could be BEST.

I've used the lachesis. The mouse is too pricey, but looks sweet, only problem being the grip. The g500 however, is sweet, with perfect response and a wonderful grip. My only gripe is the coarse plastic grip, which somehow makes me sweat, but the mouse is excellent! G500 FTW!

Having previously used Logitech's G9, G9x, G7 and G5. Prior to that using all sorts of different mice to get the "feel" that I need with my LARGE hands. I have NEVER quite found one that fits, so I end up ONLY holding the mouse by the tips of my fingers, which is terrible for ergonomic reasons.
I REALLY liked the "playability" of the G9 and especially the G9x, but I LOVE the shape of the G5/G7. However, the G9/G9x is Wide enough, but SO short that I almost can't grab it; even with the "texturing". The G5/G7 on the other hand needed to be "thicker" top to bottom, so it would "fill" my hand better. That is where this New G500 comes in!
The G500 is BAR NONE, the BEST mouse that I have EVER used! The buttons are intuitive. You can hold it by the "tips" of your fingers, or "fill" your hand with the entire mouse. The weight and DPI settings allow the mouse to "conform" to YOUR playing style and the memory stops you from having to change everything if you go to a different computer.
I don't know what to say, but it's a PURE BEAUTY!!!!
Take Care All

This mouse is great. It sits in your hand comfortably. This mouse has programmable buttons and weight! It fits everything you need for only a smaller price to pay. The downside is that the weights come in 17g which can make it just a tiny bit under your favorite or a little over. I would recommend this mouse to everyone.
