I typically like Logitech mice - specifically since they simply started blowing past their competition with features like speed wheel scrolling, mini-USB receiver, recharging stands, etc.
My latest Logitech mice have been the MX Revolution when docked and the VX Revolution when portable. I have been extremely pleased with both, but wanted to pick up a couple of new features with my next mouse: the unifying receiver, and the darkfield laser.
When I saw the Performance Mouse MX I figured that I would be ADDING to the feature-set, not subtracting. Here are my thoughts explaining my disappointments.
1. The mouse does not have a charging stand like the MX Revolution. It is rechargeable, but the connector is a mini-USB plug which inserts into the mouse at an odd angle meaning that you almost always have to pick up the mouse to see exactly where the cord goes in. I am convinced that I will eventually bend the connector enough over time to the point it will not work any longer. Also, the cable in not conveniently available - you must dig the cable off your desk, floor, etc. to charge.
2. The battery life is poor. I am a heavy user and the mouse must be charged at least every two days.
3. The horizontal scroll functionality is much less effective that the MX Revolution. The Revolution had a positive feel when moving the wheel side-to-side. The Performance MX mouse never communicates clearly to your fingers when it is really engaging.
I love the thought of a unified receiver - something I've wished for through the years. And the darkfield laser does seem more responsive to movement. But, in my humble opinion, not at the expense of the past feature-sets. I hate to say it, but I'm going back to my Revolution! I hope that Logitech combines the solid features with the new technology found in the new mouse. I'll have to wait for the next generation it seems. (anyone want to buy a Logitech Performance Mouse MX???)

This is a solid mouse but its my last highend logitech buy until there is full (or at least half) support for Logitech in Linux. All these buttons do me no good if i cant configure them to do something.

it is a fine mouse for office use, but cannot be use for gaming. There are a few problems:
1. short range, if I use it 2 meters away from the receiver,
I can barely get it correctly click on a button
2. conflict with xbox 360 wireless controller, you have to choose 1 to use, mouse or controller, other one will be dead until you reboot the pc and unplug the other one's receiver from usb port.

I am amazed at how much better this mouse is than the one that came with my computer. It is ultra comfortable. It has all the buttons I could ask for and they are highly flexible. I love the expose type function that works for windows 7. I only wish it could be charged wirelessly like the pre but I am sure someday. The mouse is also incredibly smooth on surfaces and the darkfield laser works like a charm on my glass table.

I borrowed one from a friend to test out to replace a previous MX I've worn out. I really like it, but there is a major feature/design flaw that doesn't allow it to replace my previouse version MX - the charging system.
The micro-USB charging method might work for alot of people, but the cradle charging system is a requirement for me. Being able to drop the mouse into the cradle for charging every night is a must have feature. Having to track down the charging cable mixed in with all the other cables on the desk and then plug it in every night is not reasonable. Leaving it plugged in completely defeats the purpose of wireless.
As soon as Logitech makes a cradle based charging version, I am in for two. For now, I'll have to buy another previous design version on eBay...

A notable upgrade from the best-in-the-field MX Revolution and an all-around great mouse...
BUT -- and it's a big BUT -- the USB plug-in recharge interface is about 5 steps back for Logitech, whatever the reasoning, and I'm sure within the next six months it will finally break altogether. For that reason, and only for that reason, I will not be reccomending this mouse to friends.

OK, first everything that has to do with the mouse itself is outstanding. All the hardware is incredible. The reason I can't give 5 stars across the board is that Logitech Setpoint uses C++ 2005, code that Windows Vista 64 doesn't come with.
I got home, opened the box, plugged it in and thought I'd be good to go because I was using a VX revolution previously with setpoint. Unfortunately the new mouse wasn't recognized, so taking the recommended actions from Logitech, I uninstalled my current version of Setpoint so I could install it fresh from the disk. This is where the problems started, at about 90% complete I kept getting the same error message about the VC8 Libraries. So in accordance to the error message, I restarted the cpu and tried again, same thing.
Next I downloaded the Setpoint Installer from the Website, sadly, the same issue. Come to find out through VERY thorough searching on the internet, I'm FAR from the first person to have this issue. Matter of fact, the solution is posted right here on the logitech forums, but it's not directly referenced from the Performance MX troubleshooting page.
The least Logitech could do is CLEARLY point out that for the effected operating systems, you will need to download a few redistribution of C++ from Microsoft's website and present us with the link up front rather than after a frustrated hour of Google searches.
Better yet, include the redistribution with the software. Even better yet, update Setpoint to use the CURRENT version of the code so this is no longer an issue.
That said, now that my first extremely frustrating night with this mouse is over and done with, I do love it and Highly recommend it.
And for anyone that experiences the same VC8 Library error message I did, here is a link to the forum post you need, hopefully it helps you get going faster than I did.
Post #38 is the one containing the links to the required redistribution.

I'm fairly critical of my software and hardware that I use and have never given a perfect review, but there is a first time for everything.
I prefer my computer hardware to keep pace with my thinking/actions, and this mouse does that. It does exactly what it says, every detail; from working on glass to providing clean, non-impeding functions that speed the computing experience.
I can't come up with improvements aside from being cheaper or sturdier, e.g. made of stainless steel, but no one wants an ice cold mouse
Overall, a must have for anyone who multitasks on a computer.

I can't believe the staff at Logitech, I own the MX Rev and will swear by it, Saw the MX Performance and had to try it. smart choice. I tried the Razer Mamba and it would lockup anywhere between 10 seconds to whenever, then I would had to reboot, but my Rev never had a problem, really excited to have the new MX. I've had for 2 days now, should have bought this at the beginning. Oh well, I have it now. Very smooth, accurate, feels just right with the perfect weight. One thing, kind of miss the side scroll wheel, but overall GREAT MOUSE.

I recently upgrade my MX Revolution to the Performance MX and I am extremely pleased with it. It's a solid mouse with plenty of features and performs better than any other mouse I've owned.
The only gripe I have with it is the micro-usb charging interface -- The micro USB cable/socket connection is tight and you can't help feel that your going to damage either the cable or the mouse on insertion. I really wish Logitech would have kept the same charging base design from the MX Revolution.
That aside it's a great product and worth every penny!

I've upgraded my standard apple mouse...got tired of its limited functions. This is my second logitech mouse (I've had mx700 before).
This MX is ergonomic for most part. The "zoom in" feature is little hard to use but functional. I had to return the first mouse I got because of mfg. defect. It took over several weeks to get my exchange. The customer service is fair, but the product is great. Lack of direct charging station as in MX 700 is a minus as well, but overall I'm enjoying this mouse.

I enjoy a good gadget/current technology and thought I would be upgrading from my MX Revolution. I have a glass desk top so the Performance MX appealed to me. However, the placement of the forward/back buttons has been raised and is not as ergonmic. I miss the Revolution's charging station. Having to plug in a charging cord is more time consuming, occasionally frustrating, and much less convenient. I regret this purchase decision.

I purchased the mouse because I was interested in the unifying features. I'm a neat freak and the less clutter for me the better. So one device that would run my keyboard and mice was a great feature for me. The mouse is very smooth. However, I had to return the mouse to the store because when I plugged in the recharge cord. The mouse would not charge. I purchased the same model again thinking that maybe it was just that one that was defective unfortunately that was not the case. I now have to return the second mouse to the store because it also will not recharge.Very disappointed.

This mouse is FANTASTIC!!
This is being used on a MacBook Pro. Since I'm using a laptop, the ease of a mouse is very comforting. The mouse was easy and simple to setup.
The mouse moves effortlessly over the hard surface you are using; there is no dragging or pulling.
The ergonomics of the mouse are very comfortable in my hand. It is just the right size for me.
I highly recommend this product!
