With what the flight system G940 has to offer and for the price - I would recommend this product to a person who does not invest much time in serious flight simulation. The stick, for some reason, causes my plane to spin occasionally. This isn't good, especially when I am flying in formation or on approach for landing. I ended up purchasing $1200 dollar replica controllers for the A-10C Warthog because I was tired of the 'spin-outs'. In most cases, the price of something refects the quality of it.

I own this device for about two years now and I must admit that I do regret every penny spent on it, and in part of the world where I live this set is extremely expensive. Throttle pots are out of sync and differences are reaching 5% (it's not calibration issue), reversal bug makes all axis useless (unless you're ready for modding), so you won't be able to set power or trim precisely (search the topic on net), and wiring is so bad, that in every piece I heard of (including mine) it got broken and needed repairs/replacement. If you're not familiar with soldering and hardware modding than this product is not for you.

This controller has some serious advantages. It comes with stick, throttle and pedals for example. It also has force feedback which works well when combined with trim controls on one of the directional switches. On the downside, the stick is never really centered. It is always loose around the center and therefore requires constant adjustment. Adjusting the strength of the "centering spring" force feedback effect does not help. Furthermore, the analog rotary wheels on the throttle give erratic output and cannot be used. It also seems that button presses from the throttle do not always work, especially when the throttles are in the lowest position. As far as I know the rotary wheels, the throttles, the pedals and the toe brakes all use potentiometers. The pitch and roll axes of the stick use hall effect sensors.

I have this system since it was first released and am very happy going on 2.5 years. I use it exclusively on a dedicated flight Sim system using FSX. The only problem I have is an erratic rotary on the throttle which I fixed by just stop using it..LOL. I was not happy with the force feedback performance until I purchased aftermarket software that allows you to create custom profiles for individual aircraft. If you are using this system in FSX I recommend FS Force software available on line. I have customized the pedals with a ramp and filler blocks so that I can use the balls of my feet for pedal operation and then slide my feet up for the brakes as in the real thing. I have a custom seat (Nissan Maxima) and I built adjustable brackets for the stick and throttles.I have my sub-woofer mounted to the bottom of my seat for a little seat of the pants effect. I have included a couple of photos in case anyone is interested. My only worry is that the system will eventually ware out and won't be available anymore that's how much I like this system.

So after reading the other reviews I was a little concerned about buying this system but I had used the Extreme Pro 3D(I think that's the name) for a few years for Flight Simulator X. So when I got the system I was excited as any other simmer would be. After setting up the disc and unit on my Sony Vaio notebook with Win 7 (in case anyone is wondering what type of computer I used) which is not a gaming computer I was a amazed at the easy set up. Now here is the catch, they tell you to set it up using fsx on some forums and pages. Do not, and I mean DO NOT. You will not get it to work, follow the instructions in the manual that is in the logitech file in programs( in "My Computer")you just need to set up the axes for FSX. Then you get all the button arangements you want from the FSX controls page and then go into the Logitech manager and map the keystrokes to the buttons. Finally you have to set it up to be persistent for FSX. So all though it seems like a lot, it really isn't in the long run because once you get everything mapped and working it works amazingly for the game. When I was flying a jet for example which was a two engine learjet (the larger model) I felt like I had everything at my fingertips. I could not have asked for a better system. I do warn you though that this is just for FSX and FSX Acceleration. I would recommend this product but only do it if you know what your doing. I hope the instructions helps anyone who was having trouble.

I have been flying flight simulators since Air Warrior, circa 1992, have tried most controllers, I bought the G940 even after reading the bad reviews, my mistake, after 6 months of trying everything, I do mean everything cause when you spend $250.00 you don't like to give up too easy, I finally gave it to I friend, that was probably a mean thing to do, he might forgive me sometime. I went back to my Ch pedals and Ch throttle and the new thrustmastert16000m(t16000m costs $35.00 and is twice the controller the G940 is.) Sorry Logitech you make good speakers, maybe you should stick to that.

I purchased the G940 flight system despite the many negative comments which were made about it, because if it worked as advertised it would be extremely good value for money, having a stick, throttle and pedals.
Upon receiving my package I attempted to install it on my system, but had difficulties and my system initially would not install it correctly. After much difficulty I decided to give it one last shot and did a complete format of my system and reinstalled windows. After this, I had no trouble installing the setup.
Configuration of the profile is an ever evolving process, however it didn't take long to build a profile that worked for LOMAC FC, for nav, AA, and A2G. The profiler is a powerful tool allowing many different configurations of the various buttons, pots and axis', however I think there is still room for expansion.
Once I found an adequate setting for the stick forces the handling in Lomac was superb, allowing an amazing improvement in control compared to my previous setups (logitech extreme 3d pro, x-52). Precision of all 3 controllers is accurate, and so far (fingers crossed) there is no sign of the reversal bug in any of the axes, and no spiking in r1 or r2, and the 'centre slop' in the stick is negligable and probably a necessity to allow precise inputs.
Stick forces are greatly helpfull for riding the envelope on stalls in turns. The precision has also improved my formation flying, allowing me to consistently fly wingtip to canopy with wingmen.
The ministick is greatly useful for controlling view pov, and with a small deadzone and curve, works flawlessly in lomac.
The trim pots work excellently in conjunction with ffb, as when I adjust the trim to the desired setting, it actually removes the forces from the stick, forming a new centring area which is greatly useful fow flying hands off.
The position of the ministick and top buttons stick itself is slightly too high for my hand, which causes a slight strain, and the pinkie trigger could have been a little more flush with the stick to allow a more comfortable grip. Other than those issues, the controllers feel great.
Overall I can't really be happier with the setup. I took a risk despite the negative reviews and it paid off in dividends.
I would recommend installing on a fresh system if possible to give yourself a good chance of beating the reversal bug (I think this had something to do with my success - no hardware or driver conflicts).
This is one satisfied customer, and I can't garauntee others won't experience the problems previously mentioned, but it was worth the risk for me.

I truly thought I was purchasing a "high end" product that would perform as advertised. It does not. I own a very high end system and use FSX, you cannot get the functionality that was expected, nor can you program the various functions and expect they will all work, they don't. So in the end I own the product but would NOT recommend you spend $299 in the hope you are getting what you expected.

The G940 system has a lot of great features. The force feedback was a nice touch as you don't find too many of those systems around any more. Plenty of buttons for all of the flight systems. The controls had a very smooth motion to them. Another great feature was the inclusion of a dual throttle for those planes with 2 engines. Unfortunately the one bad thing, is a gigantic bad thing. The drivers for the product are horrible because they make the device show as 3 devices in windows. And do to this fact the G940 quickly becomes a joystick only system for the majority of games out there because the games will only recognize one device.

I'm Loving It!!!!
This is by far the greatest Flight System I have ever used! The Joystick, Throttle, and Rudder Pedals and all extremely High-Quality. Even though this system is very well made, I still think that the price could have been at most $30-40. But that's just my opinion, which is fine. Overall, GREAT product, Extremely well-made system, and nice price! Great Job Logitech!

I've waiting to buy the G940, since June when I saw it advertised on the Logitech web site. This is a marvelous flight gaming system. I set it up after loading up the drivers, mapped a few buttons and was off flying. I previously owned a Thrustmaster F-16, FLCS, TQS and Elite rudder pedals. The G940 is easier to calibrate, allowing for finer control input. The only con, I wish there was better documentation for programming all the control features.

They don't have a working driver for the 64 bit OS that can see the new G940 yet. The new 5.06 drivers also drop the MOMO FFB off. But the older 5.04 drivers still work for the MOMO but not the G940. Get looking stick but I cant get FFB to work until they fix the 64 bit issue they have.
I will re-post after I get a new driver or some work around to fix this problem.

LOGITECH G940 Flight System – Review Written By: Ray Xxxxxxx August 09, 2009
Logitech has waited a long time to enter the flight simulation market. They have always had a nice selection of traditional gaming joysticks; however, most true flight simmers find these very much inadequate. The closet comparable to the G940 is the SAITEK X52 series.
The LOGITECH G940 is a 3-piece flight system Forced Feedback Joystick Throttle Module Rudder Pedals
This is the only system that comes with all 3 pieces. Other manufacturers make all these pieces, but they are sold as separate items. Upon arrival, the items were well packaged and looked impressive, as we have come to expect from all LOGITECH products. The Joystick and Throttle have a nice rubbery texture to it to improve grip. Installation was very easy. The joystick is the heart of the system. It requires an external power cord that powers all 3 modules. This is a nice feature. Most other flight sim controllers require power via USB power thus taxing the power supply of the PC. The joystick connects to the PC via a standard 2.0 USB connection. The throttle and rudder pedals connect to the joystick via DB9 connections. I found these DB9 connections to be very old fashion. Why didn't LOGITECH use USB connections here? The device drivers installed without issue. I calibrated the 3 devices without issue. Button and Axis assignment was completed without issue. I should mention that I am testing the G940 with Microsoft Fight Simulation 2004 (a.k.a. FS9) as I did not want to change the button assignments in my FSX.
It should be noted at this point that the G940 is not geared towards true flight simming. These controllers are only valid if the user is flying aircraft that use a stick in the right hand and throttle in the left hand. This would include such aircraft but not limited to Piper Cub, Extra 300, P51, F-16 or an Airbus in the co-pilots position. These controllers are not suitable for any aircraft that use a yoke such as Cessna 172, DC10, Boeing 737, etc. Having said all this, technically the G940 can be used to fly any aircraft, however the realism factor drops significantly when flying yoke style aircraft.
JOYSTICK Both the joystick and Throttle module come with 4 screw holes thus allowing the users to screw or bolt down the controllers to a table top or home made simulator. The joystick has 3 dials on the base of the joystick for pitch, roll and yaw trim. This is a very nice feature. The top of the joystick has the traditional assortment of hatswitch's and programmable buttons. The force feedback feature seemed to work fine however this is not a feature I tend to use. Other users may enjoy it. Overall the joystick performed very much like other high-end joysticks. It gets bonus marks for the 3 trim wheels. The only negative I found was the top hatswitch and top 3 buttons were difficult to access with my thumb without compromising my grip on the joystick.
THROTTLE The throttle module is the item I like the most. It has 2 separate thrust levers that can be locked together when flying single engine aircraft. It has 2 separate trim wheels, which brings the total amount of trim wheels to 5. (I'm not sure what I would use the 4th and 5th wheel for). There are 2 buttons on the side of the throttle which can be used for engine start and stop if the user does not wish to go through the full engine start up and shut down procedure. Just above these 2 buttons is another hatswitch. The base of the module contains 8 programmable buttons. These buttons light up green and red depending on how they are being used. The feature I like most about these 8 buttons is that have clear key caps on them thus allowing the user to print labels and placing them under the keycap. LOGITECH even provides the user with pre-printed labels and blanks labels. The thrust levers are large and bulky, thus giving the users the feeling of holding real thrust levers.
PEDALS The pedals are also nice. The pedals themselves are metal or aluminum (I can't tell which) mounted in a hard plastic casing. The pedals are very wide however the length is not extendable like the SAITEK pedals. This is not a big deal. The pedals have very fluid movement in both the rudder and braking axes. My only complaint is that the distance traveled in the rudder axis is not as long as in the SAITEK pedals. The SAITEK pedals allow for more precise rudder control.
CONCLUSION The system as a whole a very nice system if you prefer a joystick rather than a yoke. The MSRP of $299.99 seems inline with other flight control systems on the market. From a LOGITECH perspective, they are only catering to about 50% of the flight sim market. The other 50% prefer a yoke based system. Until LOGITECH comes out with a Yoke based system, they will lose a lot of sales to people like SAITEK and CH PRODUCTS.
The big negative that I see with this system is the DB9 connections for the Throttle and Pedals. It doesn't allow the user to custom build their setup. I personally use the SAITEK Yoke, Throttle and Pedals and I actually prefer the G940 Throttle to the SAITEK 3 axis Throttle Quadrant. After my testing, I decided that I wanted to incorporate the G940 Throttle into my system and use the SAITEK Throttle Quadrant for other flight controls, but in order to do that, I had to maintain the G940 joystick because this is where the Throttle gets its power and USB connectivity. If the Throttle had a USB connection, perhaps I could have plugged the G940 Throttle directly into my PC. As such, the G940 joystick is now sitting on the floor under my desk collecting dust, simply acting as a go-between. Overall, I think users will enjoy this system and LOGITECH has done a nice job entering the flight sim market, however they have a lot of work to do if they wish to stay in the market.

The HOTAS-system does, what it should: it gives control. You've got a fully integrated system. But what it lacks, is authenticity: it just does not FEEL like you're steering a multi-million dollar-plane. It feels like what it is: a bunch of wired plastik. Anyway it's a good way for an entry in the HOTAS-flight-control-segment, especially because it has force feedback inside. For a professional feeling, you can still proceed to an Thrustmaster Cougar later, first, you can take this as baby shoes to learn walk. (or fly ;))
