I bought this product because of its great look and design. Seemed simple to use. However once you open the package there are no instructions on how to use this with your Powerpoint presentation. It just says to plug in the receiver and your good to go. Opened the Powerepoint presentation from the computer and it does not work.
Off to return it.

Travelling a lot with presentations I do wonder, why there is no build in memory in the USB reciever ? Now I need to put in a USB memostick as well as the presenter - it would be quite convenient to have the presentation in the reciever stick > just click in and go !!

I have used this presenter for over 2 years and have never had any problems (unlike the Toshiba presenter I had before this one). I use this every week for 5-8 hours per day. I use it on WinXP and Win7-64bit systems... Perfect!!
One suggestion: design a default "off-switch" into the USB storage port so when the USB connector is stored back in the presenter body for travel, the battery circuit is disabled. I have forgotten to turn the device off before and discovered my mistake only after unpacking.

(Note: indicated usage is for this design only; I used the previous design, which is very similar (see below), for two years)
I enjoyed using the previous iteration of Logitech's presenter (which had all of the features this design does) in my classroom daily for two years. The person that introduced me to it commented on its simplicity; it included only the features I needed and not other buttons/cursor controls that could be mishandled or would be confusing for someone else to pick up and use immediately. I have seen this observation to be true as my students ask for it frequently near the end of the semester when giving presentations in class and to clients.
The previous design worked on both PC laptops (WinXP) and MacBooks (MacOS and WinXP) by just plugging in the receiver. The previous design also had a timer that would vibrate at 5 and 2 min., but I didn't end up relying on it too much. Battery life was also acceptable. With daily use (at least 1 hr) of both the forward and backward buttons (F/B) and the laser, it went two semesters without a battery change. Unfortunately, I lost it, so I returned to Logitech to find a new design.
The biggest changes between the designs (as I see it) are the following: timer (I don't miss it), laser button location, form, and power switch. The laser button is now isolated above the F/B and is larger, minimizing mishits of the F/B. The form has changed to a wider base in the palm and narrower platform for the thumb to select the controls. This alteration allows a better, more natural grip by the fingers. I do concur with one of the other comments on the power button. It is more subtle in this design and, like the previous design, would be great if it could be coupled with an auto-off feature after 1 hr of non-use (or could a Logitech technician/engineer make a comment about battery drain with the power on and no buttons pressed?).
I also like the addition of a raised "nib" on the forward button in order to orientate the thumb without needing to look (like the F and J keys on most keyboards).
I am unsure of the issue that another commenter had with it not working with Win7. I have used it with both Win7 32-bit and 64-bit without issue.
I don't "plan" on losing this one, but if it comes time to need another one, I do plan on checking out what Logitech has come up with next. Thanks!

A co-worker told me he had purchased one, but I wasn't sure at the time it was a Logitech product. Went looking on my own and found it. Once I saw it was a Logitech device, I knew it was going to be good. Compact, very mobile, slip resistant coating, Pointer, plug and play ... it just doesn't get any better or easier than this. If you are thinking about making this purchase, just do it. Not only will you be pleased with your purchase, you will be showing it off to friends and co-workers in the same week.

To the computer, the presenter simply looks like a USB keyboard, pressing the presenter's keys is the same like hitting F5 (start presentation), dot (blank screen), Page up/Page down (previous/next slide). The key bindings do work in Microsoft Powerpoint and Openoffice, PageUp/PageDown also works in about any other software (e.g. Acrobat Reader) as well. As a "USB keyboard", the device works in about any operating system - tested on Mac OS X and Linux.
There are just two things I'd like to change: due to the way one is required to hold the protective case when putting the presenter into it,the on/off-slider may occasionally end up in the "on" position. So maybe it's a better idea to reverse the on/off-position on the presenter.
The other thing to change is something I didn't need to do yet, but its possibility still leaves kind of bad feeling: when presenter and USB dongle don't recognize each other, they do require a special Windows sync software to sync each other. This issue isn't written in the paper manual and may only be found on the website by browsing for support. Adding a single button to the USB dongle should do the trick to get this piece of hardware completely platform-independent.

< and > keys: great.
But if you touch the 'play key (F5)' it will stop your presentation!
No way to get back to your current slide. ( besides going to your pc and going back to the slide were you were, and then press SF5).
Useless key. Any tips on how to disable this key?

Did buy the R400 to work on my Linx laptop and my MacBook.
On the box it said Windows & Mac...no Linux
Big surprise that Linux worked straight away
But even bigger surprise it did not work on the Mac (have to start presentation manually 1st - and only forward, backward works)
How is it possible that for such a platform the R400 is not supported.

It fits great in your hands and the buttons are easy to find. The only thing that could improve this product line is built in memory storage in the receiver.
