Amazing Remote !

Date:April 5, 2012
All my components are here. They can all be controlled.
For example: I have separate video and audio components, so I have a separate audio processor, a receiver, and a separate video switcher. I use 5 different components to watch and listen to a laser disc with AC-3 audio.
All the components, even the ones that are over 15 years old are controlled correctly, and in order, by this Logitech Harmony One Remote.
I can control my lighting and rename the activities to name the specific device on which I want to view a movie.
I can control the video device and the separate audio device in a way the I can enjoy it . All with the push of one single button.
The software is fantastic and very user friendly. Over the past 12 years I have used a Marantz RC 5000. It cost four times as much as the Harmony One. It was so hard to program. The Harmony One makes things so simple.
This is amazing !!

Great remote BUT

Date:April 4, 2012
I've had the remote about 4 years. Easy to set up and program the way I wanted it. BUT - after 4 years the battery went out - it not only went but the battery swelled so bad I can NOT get it out of the remote without destroying it.I have emailed Logitech Tech support just tonight so ti will be interesting to see how fast they respond. In checking various forums - it apppears this is a common problem with the batteries used in these units. I am anxiously waiting to see their answer and how they handle it. Please realize I am not blasting them - it is a great remote - I just need a battery.

No Apple TV support yet, $$ for support

Date:April 2, 2012
You will end up paying out the nose trying to get this thing to work with future products as they only give you 90 days and they are not keeping up with new products. For instance Apple TV has been out for what, 2 years? Still no EASY way to add support for Apple TV.

Almost Great

Date:March 29, 2012
Generally a good performer, but occasionally stumbles. Doesn't always configure individual components with your programmed specifications. Input choice not always correct. It's better than having to deal with all those separate remotes, but at this price, there shouldn't be ANY glitches.

Harmony One - A Great Product

Date:March 28, 2012
I purchased the Logitech Harmony One to replace my four year old worn out and very troublesome Mitsubishi HDTV remote. As it wore its button actuations became very intermittent and problematic, requiring extremely heavy key presses. Also the remote ate up its two AA batteries very quickly due to its nine back-light LED's which turn on for 10 seconds every time a button is pressed. I eventually removed the LED's which increased the battery life to almost a year, up from just a few months!
If you do NOT have a specific SUBTITLE or CAPTION button on your old remote, you will have to input keystroke commands on the Harmony One, just as you did with your old remote. On my TV, BLU-RAY and DVD remotes, captions and subtitles are accessed via a menu set of keystrokes; there are no "dedicated" keys for them. And according to Logitech, the Harmony One cannot be programmed with any MACRO'S, which could accomodate this type of multi-keystroke issue.
The fact that the Harmony One cannot do these operations via one dedicated key raises a suggestion -- Logitech should redesign their remotes to include a SUBTITLE, CAPTION and "DECIMAL" button. Logitech should also do a redesign of the firmware (or create an entirely new model remote control) to improve it by adding an available MACRO feature so that their product(s) can utilize commands that are otherwise made of multi-menu selection keystrokes. A macro placing these instructions into a one-key function would be SO great to have.
The Harmony One remote is NOT factory-designed to have a (-) (or "decimal") entry so that you could directly enter a decimal channel. For example, I was not able to directly enter channel 5.2. Initially what I had to do was go to channel 5 and then scroll up to 5.2. However, I later discovered that I WAS able to reprogram the (+) key on the Harmony One to make that the (-) [decimal] from my old remote. It seems very odd to me that something as USEFUL as the decimal key for channel input is NOT automatically included in the Logitech remote's design. The lack of it is a major annoyance for me, as are the lack of SUBTITLE and CAPTION keys (which could be programmed via a macro if need be.)
ADDENDUM: There IS a (-) [decimal] available on the remote BUT it is up in the LCD display 'buttons' area were you have to scroll through menus to access it. That is just too time consuming and inconvenient; hence the desire for a dedicated decimal button within the numeric keypad area.
Logitech had to be called twice to assist me with some programming advice, and one problem, where the cursor was jumping three lines in the guide menu instead of one line at a time. They downloaded an update to the remote and fixed it. Logitech's technical support was a PLEASURE to deal with. Both times they answered the phone quickly and the techs I spoke with were friendly and knowledgeable, and had positive attitudes toward assisting me. It was nice to talk to a REAL person for technical questions. Many companies today only utilize FAQ's pages and they arrogantly call this their "Tech Support."
I am now free of the pile of four remotes. As I had to access CAPTIONS and SUBTITLES via a series of menu choices on my old remotes anyway, there is really no difference now in having to make those same menu selections series with the Harmony One.
Once I get more hands-on time with the new remote I am certain to become more quick and efficient with it, just as anyone would with any new item.
One last mention. When you receive the remote, first charge up the battery. Then run the battery down completely with normal use and then recharge it again. Do this same run-down/recharge cycle two or three times. This will condition your battery and make it last longer between charges and it also adds to overall battery life. Once you have accomplished the battery conditioning you can leave the charging station power on all the time, if you wish, to keep the remote close to fully charged and ready at all times.
Disregarding my personal suggestions: I am EXTREMELY pleased with the Harmony One. The remote was easy to program and update via the on-line software. I have ZERO actual complaints concerning the Harmony One remote's operation.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Logitech a 20. 10 for the Harmony One and 10 for their technical support.

awesome

I have no idea how to deal with all the gadgets attached to the TV. Sometimes we just lose the signal from the cable box and I get a blue screen. All I have to do is push "Help" on this remote and follow the steps to fix the problem. No more calling my husband when he's out of town. Makes it easy to use the DVD player, Wii and DVR too.

Awesome remote

Date:March 3, 2012
I just bought the remote today from a local electronics store that has never steered me wrong. This remote does it all. I have a brand new TV and 3D DVD Player a run of the mill Comcast HD DVR and and Older Bose Cinemate. Before I was using3 remotes and my table was a mess. This has cleared up the problem and in a great way. Setup was a breeze, it says to leave yourself 30 minutes but as long as you know the model number to your components it can be done in half of that time. The best part is not having the hassle of trying to find codes and then going through that whole process. You bring your computer to the remote and the setup wizard walks you right through everything. Im now down to one remote to control everything and still have room for 11 more components. How awesome! Great job logitec and a wonderful remote.

replacing components

Date:February 27, 2012
I have had my Harmony remote several years and have loved it. However, when newer componets have replaced older ones it has been more difficult than it should be. I replaced my TV with a new HD and it took me several days to get everything right. Now, I have a new blu-ray player and after too many days to mention I cannot seem to get it right. The biggest problem right now is not being able to change the sound on the TV. It goes through the receiver and the dial moves but the sound does not change. I can, however, change the sound with the original TV remote. The help button and support group have not helped. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It is out of warranty and I am trying to avoid paying for help.

expensive paperweight

Date:February 25, 2012
I have a Samsung TV and ATT-Uverse and this thing works NO BETTER than the cheap remote from ATT. According to my Logitech info I read, the problem may be too much IR from the TV. However, Samsung doesn't acknowledge as much, and oddly in all my communications with Logitech it's never come up. And neither did any solutions.

Why did I wait so long?

Date:February 21, 2012
All I can say is I can't believe I didn't purchase this remote a long time ago. I was dealing with 6 remotes and now everything is controlled by the Harmony One. This thing controls everything I have. I have a Polk Pro 500 subwoofer and it even controls it. I really love how incrediabley easy it is to setup and customize all the buttons. The software is easy to navigate and setup. Buy this remote and you will not be disappointed.
The only con is the price. This jewel is a bit overpriced IMHO.

Before the Harmony One we had at least 5 remotes to contend with. My wife hardly ever watched any TV due to this fact. Now she can do it all using the Harmony with ease. There are two problems with it, one, I find the touch screen a bit too sensitive, and two I find that I am spending way too much time watching TV... It is a great device and I wouldn't be without it!

Nice but easy to break

Date:February 18, 2012
Remotes are abused, they get dropped, sat on, stepped on, etc. This remote lasted about 8 months. Can't read the touch screen any longer...
I really hate the touch screen, no feedback, hard to press the correct buttons, would much rather have an MFD with the buttons on the outside and the labels on the screen. I would buy the harmony 700 advanced but it doesn't have a cradle to charge it and it would be a pain to plug it in all the time to charge.

Replaced Harmony 520 Remote

Date:February 14, 2012
I purchased the harmony 520 remote 3 years ago and have never looked back. As many have stated that the remote is hard to setup, and that is entirely incorrect. It is time consuming but once done correctly it works! Anyway I somehow cracked the screen on my 520 remote so I wanted to get a replacement, but Logitech DOESNOT REPAIR REMOTES but since I had purchased the extended warranty Logitech was more than happy to send me a newer model at 50% off. The Harmony One was the remote I had to chose because the Harmony 520 handled 10 plus devices and the Harmony One was the only one in the class that could handle all of my devices. It was rather simple to transfer the contents of my old remote to my new remote. Actually it was just launch the software, click upgrade remote and I was done. And Now the BAD. The older remote supported sequenced commands and the newer remote does not. Lost the custom buttons, the upgrade does not transfer the custom buttons, had to re do those. I have not completely used it much but so far those are the only negative issues I have. The sequenced commands were very nice for xBox 360 and PS3, or for older model that needed IR command in a sequenced order like a Technics or Yamaha Tape Deck or Reel to Reel Decks. I really cannot complain much I got a great deal and upgraded my older model. Maybe if I play with it a little more I will figure out how to perform sequenced commands; it is still available in my SW page so maybe it is an undocumented feature of the newer model (Harmony One)

SW leaves much to be desired

Date:February 2, 2012
The remote itself is as advertised; well laid out, feels good in your hand, will do many tasks with a single click, etc. However, the software to program the remote is so bad, it is a showstopper for me. To start, you must type in the models of all of your equipment. If the SW goes as far as giving you drop downs for component type & manufacturer name, why not list model numbers? I transposed one digit and spend 20 minutes in "learn mode". Once I was complete, 50% of my TV's functions were missing. Didn't even provide as option for HDMI, so I knew there was a major issue. Luckily I double checked and found my error. So the moral of the story is be VERY careful entering the model numbers of your components at initial setup or you may be missing much of your functionality. It is also very unintuitive. I am programmer by trade and it took me quite a while to program an activity from scratch. This should be much easier to do. Long way to go on improving the SW. Seen several reviews saying the same thing in different ways.

My Wife Can even use it

Date:January 27, 2012
I was getting tired of having so many remotes to watch movies, ect. Went to get a universal and had to find one that would work with ATT Uverse. The Harmony one, once programmed, replaced every remote that I had and will access every feature on every device from my Uverse box to an old Mitsubishi VCR. You just select an activity and it turns everything you want on. If you want to change a setting on a device you select which device you want and the remote will access all of the original remotes actions. How much more do you need? Now when it is movie night, my wife can even get everything going, TV, BlueRay player, Surround sound, VCR, Uverse box and even the XBox 360. All from one button. Money well spent. I absolutely love this device.

Excellant remote...BUT

Date:January 25, 2012
I love the way the remote works; it got rid of all the other remotes I used to have. I didn't find the setup or programming an issue and have added a couple devices since my initial setup. BUT, this is the second Logitech remote I've owned, the first (a different model) lasted about 1 1/2 years and this one just died after 11 1/2 months. I called customer service, did not have to wait long to speak with someone, and after a series of questions it was determined to be defective. They are sending out a new one since it's still under the manufacturers warranty. I'm impressed with the way customer service handled this. I was on the phone less than 15 minutes. On both remotes I purchased the extended warranty which I was glad I had on the first one, the second was still under the manufacturers warranty. I would highly recommend getting an extended warranty because my experience is that these don't last as long as you might think they would.

Great remote - Just one problem

Date:January 19, 2012
This solved all my remote issues.
My only problem is the design of the charging position. Sometimes the unit doesn't get a good charge because the pads aren't getting a good enough contact with the cradle. The charging pads should be moved to the bottom of the unit where the weight is. Seems like this would have been the 'logical' place to put it.
This would also allow the remote to use a docking station instead of a cradle, holding the remote up so you could easily see it instead of having to look down at a remote that isn't charging well :)
