great product

Date:May 22, 2011
i found mine on sale for $35, and its tough to find anything of decent quality that normally goes for this price, but this product was a great find on sale. I had actually bought a Microsoft lifecam that was much more expensive and after buting the c510 just as compasison, the c510 was way better. Focusing is instant, it has good resolution (far more than what what you will need for normal video chats and definitely way higher than what most of your friends have built into their computers), and its GREAT with adjusting to low light conditions. i turned my lights off so it was rather dark in my room and it still looked like there was a large amount of lighting in the room and I was clearly visible without any washout or weird compensations. the only issue i ever have is occasional freezing of video on skype, but i can almost guarantee that is due to the internet connection or skype. even if it was full price, id highly recommend it compared to other products and brands.

C-510 RULES!!!

Date:May 11, 2011
The C-510 has excellent video, still image, and audio quality for the above average user. The 360 degree swivel is invaluable for my wife when video conferencing with her Mother in Japan while one or the other demonstrates a new cooking technique or food. The mic is nicely sensitive without picking up background noise. C-510 installed flawlessly on Win XP Pro SP-3 without using any additional software. Fantastic product! We got two (home office & kitchen/family room) and will be getting one more for the patio for summer.

Webcam Excellent, Software Poor

Date:April 25, 2011
As good as the camera itself is the software is exceptionally poor. It forces the user through a number of unnecessary screens just to display the Quick Capture. Further, it is impossible to launch the Quick Capture form the Controller software, requiring the user to launch a second, separate applet to see what the cam is capturing.
There is no excuse for something this poor.

A good webcam

Date:April 14, 2011
Pros: Good clarity, sleek and light weight, fits snugly on laptop and desktop, Ambient sensor adjusts the cam automatically, 360 degree swirl allows the cam to point to any direction on x-axis without moving the monitor/laptop, compliant with chat clients
Cons: the pouch that comes along for storing is a little small

Great features for not a lot of money!!

Date:March 19, 2011
I love this webcam!! I had previously used a Logitech webcam, but when I upgraded my computers to Windows 7, it was not longer supported so I needed to purchase a new webcam. I have used a wide variety of Logitech products often in the past and have always been pleased with the quality of the products. So when I needed a new webcam, this was the first brand I looked at.
What finally convinced me was the fact that it is able to be folded up and transported between computers. To call my family is all long distance, and since we don't all have the same cell phone carrier, it costs us money to talk to each other. We have all started using Skype, which is supported by this webcam to contact each other, and we can all talk to each other at the same time, which has been very helpful when planning family activities.
I have found the sound and video quality to be good quality, although I haven't tried the video option. Since I am a college student, I like the portability of this webcam so that I can use both my home desktop computer, as well as my laptop computer when I'm at school.

Really Awesome Product

Date:February 20, 2011
Hi,
As my nickname states I was selected to be a Logitech Product Tester for Round 2 testing, which was pretty exciting.
The packaging for the webcam, like all Logitech products was pretty snazzy and the camera was well packaged, easy to remove from the box, with a well written user manual and a software CD.
The camera in itself is pretty awesome, with its swivel feature, meaning the camera can be placed on any device (laptop/PC monitor) at almost any angle.
Now as a Macbook user myself, I had to test the camera out first on it considering nowhere does it state that this product is compatible. So after plugging it into the USB port, I noticed nothing happened, so I decided to open up Skype, went into video chat with a mate, and it used my iSite camera..Figured out, all I needed to do was to change one setting to tell it I wanted to use my 'Logitech Camera', and after going back into the convo, a beautiful image came up, it was crystal clear and so was the audio going through the inbuilt mic, wasn't laggy at anytime throughout the chat and even my chattee was very impressed.
So this review wouldn't be a review without trying it out on what the camera was designed to do right? Be used on a PC.
So once again, I plugged it into the USB port (this time on the PC), and at least something happened this time, as usual the new hardware dialog box opens up in Windows and you just install it as normal, using it with whatever web application you like, once again this camera cannot be beaten with its crystal clear image.
Overall I gave the camera 5 stars, but only 3 for features as no software was available for any Apple products, which doesn't really matter because the C510 webcam works perfectly with, or without it :)

Keeps a Road Warrior connected with the family

Date:January 29, 2011
I have been a Road Warrior for nearly 14 years. As my kids have grown up, I've spoken to them on the phone every night I was on the road.
I bought everyone this webcam for Christmas and it was an instant hit! 3 teenagers (2 of them NOT tech savvy) were able to install it within minutes, and within 10 minutes they were Skyping their friends.
Now we not only talk every day, but see each other too - and the quality is good enough I can help them with homework remotely (they sometimes hold their book up so I can see what they see).
We tried a webcam several years ago when they first came out, but the speed and quality wasn't there yet. This is absolutely one of the best things that we've gotten in a long time - can't say enough good things about this.
The only thing I would like to see is a wireless version of this webcam. That's why I gave the features only 4 stars.

Fantastic Webcam with crisp clarity

Date:January 24, 2011
installed within minutes, much briter and vivid colors than the built in webcam that i was using. Photo mode is fantastic. only thing missing is the autofocus to blure the background (ideal to hide messy background).
fantastic item, very light and mobile, the wires are a bit stiff, but they should become more plyable with more use.

Works Great! Except for a Small Glitch in Video FX

I bought this camera because I needed a camera that would send clearer videos and audio while I webchat with my family members across the globe or even with friends nearby.
It's a great camera with easy set-up, great photo/video quality, and I've been having fun ever since i Bought it.
I am a huge fan of the Video Effects that comes with the logitech software such as the Clouds or Animal Avatars. SO, when I decided to be silly while chatting I noticed my video effects weren't calibrated right (my eyes and mouth didn't show in the designated areas of the video).
I went to settings to calibrate my image, and have tried endlessly to get it right but the red dots never aligned to my eyes and lips. Instead, they were at a -45* angle about a hand's length away from my face. If you are someone who LOVES to play with the Video FX, this may bother you as it bothers me.
Overall, I recommend this product. I only added the Video Effects bit to warn you that it may happen to you. But this is not an issue that an update can't fix :)
Buy this camera, and be patient for the update when the Video FX part is fixed. The price for this webcam (~50 bucks) is pretty good for the immense quality it provides.

Works out-of-the-box with Linux

Date:September 3, 2010
At first, I could not find any Linux related information about this webcam, so I will try to address this isssue here.
1) webcam is surprisingly small with a tiny pin-hole, smaller than my cell phone.
2) it can be folded into almost match-box-sized piece while the lens is hidden and well protected, except that the wire is dangling orthogonaly, but it fits very well into cosy, soft pouch (included).
3) when seated, it can be rotated 360 degrees and tilted to a particular angle. It is quite adaptable to sit on the monitor, however the sitting is not firm as I have expected even on my thick 24" LCD monitor, but it's OK as it is not falling or moving. I think I could fit it firmer on a thin laptop display (contrary to other reviews).
4) the webcam has a built-in microphone, but all is connected via single USB cable.
5) Linux recognizes the device right away and creates device files /dev/videoX for video and /dev/snd/pcmYY for audio automatically, thus one just needs to setup the program to use them, e.g. tell Skype to use the UVC Camera (046d:081d) for video and USB device 0x046d:0x081d as microphone.
6) Linux is able to extract all kinds of information, e.g. lsusb provides a list of various resolutions this camera supports -- it seems that the support is complete. Even the discrete orange LED on camera lits up when camera is used and is turned off when not (pleases some paranoia).
7) cheese application gives a choice of ~25 resolutions, starting from 160x120 up to 1600x1200, including 1280x720. Interestingly some resolutions have 3:4 aspect ratio while others are wide screen and wide screen is nice on wide screen monitor.
8) I think that I do get the full *optical* video for each and every resolution (just could not test the framerates), because smaller resolutions have less latency (less lag) and there is noticable sensor noise with largest resolutions (especially in poor lightning), thus this is not digitally extrapolated or anything. 1280x720 seems to be the optimal choice where there is little noise and picture is responsive enough (perhaps 100ms lag).
9) the colors are nice and picture looks great. Even in poor lightning (e.g. no light at all, just sitting in front of 24" monitor screen) it shows vivid colors!
10) Skype (v.2.1.0.81) seems to use low resolution with 3:4 ratio and then stretches it to wide screen during testing even when driver support is first class (sigh)
11) Gmail in Chrome with google-talk plugin seems to use a similar resolution.
12) Ekiga seems to use PTLIB/V4L2 driver and thus the resolution is limited to 640x480, which is still quite good and very responsive, just not HD720p.
In conclusion I am very happy with this webcam and Linux driver support, however I did not find a good/popular application to support HD 720p streaming over Internet.

Not real 720P

Date:August 22, 2010
I found the video is upscaled from 640x360 during video chat. It's not true 720P video. Shame on Logitech by saying it's ready for 720P video chat.

Webcam Transcends Time and Space

Date:August 22, 2010
I have a Mac Pro so unlike other Apple products I don't get a built in webcam. Logitech is the logical answer for all my peripheral needs and this new crop of webcams is top notch. I've been webcamming with my sisters and others and they all say it's the clearest webcam they've ever seen. What else is there to say?

Wish I Had Checked This One Out First!

Date:August 10, 2010
I purchased the Logitech 300 about a year ago. Compared to other brands, I thought this one was the best for price and my use. But I received the Logitech C510 to test and review. The C510 with the HD is by far the better, more improved Webcam. I was pleasantly surprised. When I contacted friends Via "Skype", the first thing they asked was: "Did you get a new Webcam?" Even they noticed the difference.

high quality webcam

Date:August 9, 2010
The HD Webcam C510 can record great quality video, the quality is loads better than the integrated laptop web cams, and it records at a smooth 30 fps instead of the jerky video that usually comes from low quality webcams. The camera is small for the size of video that it produces, and while the quality is a little grainy at times, it still looks great.
The clip for the webcam is great and works on almost any monitor, laptop or desktop. A rubber surface on the back enables it to do this.
The camera also works great with social software such as skype, where it is supported as a high quality webcam.
Overall, this is a great product that Is a nice upgrade from an old webcam or built in laptop camera.

Initial impressions. Out-of-the-box my first thought was; This unit is too small to be any good. We had been using a several year old quick cam Pro 5000, a somewhat larger device of the round eyeball type.
This initial impression was quickly dispelled upon installing the HD web cam C510. We immediately noted that the display was superior to the older unit.
The new software package is easier to use, and more intuitive as well as providing new features.
After using the unit for two weeks we are exceedingly happy with it. More compact, excellent picture quality and resolution, good sound. The Pro 5000 is officially retired and the C510 is the camera of choice. Good job, Logitech.

C510 HD WebCam

Date:August 7, 2010
Being in the video profession and using high end SD and HD cameras on a daily basis I got used to the fact that any time I had to use a web cam for a conference or demo the video was ... well going to look like a $5 web cam. Now that I've installed the C510 my web based video has moved into the "pro" look. This unit was so easy to set up, in most or ALL cases it's "plug it in and go". I did some minor adjusting to make full use of the lighting in my office. The video quality is excellent! I use the C510 to grab a quick shot of an item I might be doing a demo on and send it to my client so they can see the details on the equipment I'm talking about.
I also use the C510 for my video phone services like Skype even with a sometimes limited band width I hear the video quality of my camera "looks great"
5 Stars to Logitech on this one, it's BIG camera quality in a little box.

Great Product

Date:August 7, 2010
It was easy to install, no reboot, which is nice. Packaging was a little difficult. The actual product works very well. Picture clear, voice and sound a little off on practice call. I do not have any one to test with as of yet. All in all I would give it an 8.5 out of 10
