for guys of a certain age who cannot see quite as sharply as they did twenty years ago the illuminated keyboard is the only way to go . i use my k800 wireless illuminated keyboard in my bedroom / office at all hours of the day and night . often the ambient light in my room is very low . for the first time in many years my keyboard letters are extremely easy to see which results in much more accurate typing performance . the quiet graceful touch of the k800 keys are the best design possible and make older keyboards seem like rows of clunky rocks . i often hold the k800 with my left hand and type ( very slowly ) with my right hand . i do not have proper two handed typing skills . the two inch wrist rest on the bottom of the k800 is a must for me to hold the keyboard in the air while reclining . i prefer the extended wrist rest over all other designs . the k800 was easy to set up ... just plug and play and the freedom of a wireless keyboard is essential for the way i use my computer . the light weight sleek black no nonsense high tech look of the k800 is perfect . the logitech k800 keyboard deserves to be permanently displayed in the smithsonian museum's permanent design collection . do not hesitate to buy the k800 for your own computer . there is no better keyboard currently manufactured .

So far I'm very impressed with the K800 keyboard, and I'm not an easy customer by any stretch of the imagination. In Logitech's defense I didn't really know what I wanted when I first started shopping around, but I soon discovered that I was basically looking for a wireless keyboard that closely mimics (and improves upon) typical laptop keyboards.
I tried out and got rid of:
A. the Wave MK550 (keys and keyboard were too big and keys had too much travel),
B. the MX5500 Revolution keyboard+mouse set (excellent mouse, but I didn't like the full-sized keys on the keyboard, they had too much ‘press down’ resistance when typing),
C. the MK710 (a close second place, but it lacked short-travel scissor-switch keys and the edge-to-edge glossy surface was prone to smudges and scratches), and
D. the solar K750 (deserving of an honorable mention, but it felt a bit flimsy, also had an edge-to-edge glossy surface that was prone to smudges and scratches, and some of the reviews mentioned problems with recharging the internal battery via the solar panels (I didn't encounter that problem, but I'd have to put it in the 'hard error' category)).
Pros:
1. Low-profile scissor-switch keys have short travel, low 'press down' resistance, and excellent spring back (which may actually be the definition of 'scissor-switch' keys), which allows for fast and low-effort typing (exactly what I've been looking for, this was easily my top priority when testing out keyboards).
2. No noticeable initial connection lag immediately after booting up the computer and no noticeable lag or dropped keystrokes during operation (yay for Unifying receivers! If you are also using Bluetooth or other RF transceivers along with the Unifying receiver then try to keep them spread out among your USB ports (if possible), they can jam each other up pretty well when in close proximity).
3. Good quality black matte finish material along top and bottom portions of keyboard's surface that is a bit more resistant to smudges and scratches than the glossy surface alternative (the middle portion surrounding the keys still has the same anti-scratch-resistant glossy surface mentioned above, but the glossy surface isn't edge-to-edge, so the wear and tear should be minimal).
4. Illuminating keys with adjustable illumination levels (options of ‘no illumination’ or one of four brightness levels), adjustable illumination times (10 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 mins, 10 mins), optional keystroke activated or motion-activated illumination (keyboard lights up when you move your hand(s) over the keyboard’s surface at about an inch above the surface), and an option to disable keyboard illumination completely (extends battery life between recharges). I actually disable the illumination most of the time, but I'm sure I'll activate it when I'm working late at night while others are sleeping. It probably sounds strange, but the illumination aspect is actually pretty low on my priority list (icing on the cake, but I had to find a cake that met my standards first).
5. Rechargeable batteries via USB charging cable. It'll be nice to recharge the batteries instead of replacing them (I ended up buying rechargeable AAs for the media pad that came in my diNovo keyboard and mouse set because it would burn through standard AAs so quickly).
6. Sturdy design and good size for keyboard and keys.
Cons:
1. Quite difficult to access rechargeable AAs in keyboard. The battery panel has a small screw that you have to unscrew and then the battery cover still doesn't come off very easily (I didn't get it all the way off because I was worried about breaking it). I have other rechargeable AAs (that I charge in a wall charger) that I'd like to be able to swap in if the rechargeable AAs that come with the keyboard start to drain too quickly with age. It would also be nice to have the option to run the keyboard off of standard AAs (I promise I won't plug the keyboard into the USB charging cable when it's powered via the standard AAs).
2. Removing the rechargeable AAs voids the warranty (I can see the reasoning, because I can only imagine what would happen if someone tried to recharge standard AAs, but it still falls in the 'Cons' category).
3. Keyboard comes with USB charging cable but doesn't come with USB wall-charger adapter and the USB charging cable seems a bit short (my Performance MX mouse came with a USB charging cable that's at least twice as long and also came with a USB wall-charger adapter, so I'm using that USB cable and wall-charger to charge the mouse and keyboard as needed).
4. Scratch and smudge prone glossy surface surrounding the keys. While the glossy surface only makes up a small portion of the keyboard's surface I think it should be removed completely in favor of a black matte finish material that is much more durable.
Possible Alternative:
I also looked into the MK520 keyboard+mouse set, because at first glance the keyboard appears to be a non-illuminating version of the K800 for a little over half the price (and it includes a mouse), but I read some complaints that the keys are harder to press and lower quality than the keys on the K800, which was leading to typing fatigue after extensive use. Avoiding typing fatigue is by far my biggest priority (which is why I went through so many keyboards), so I didn’t even bother testing the MK520 out.
Overall I think the K800 is an excellent keyboard. I’ve read complaints about the small ‘F1’ through ‘F12’ keys and the fact that you have to press the ‘FN’ button to access the second functions that the ‘F1’ through ‘F12’ keys respectively have (as far as I can tell there is no ‘F-Lock’ capability for this keyboard), but I don’t see either of these issues being a problem for me.

I bought this keyboard to replace the clumsy feel of my MS Intellitype Pro. I do love the feel and high visibility of the keys which are the main reasons I got it. However, I agree with the criticism offered by nofb of 3/9/12 re the ergonomic and quick launch features. The top row of dual programed F keys is a waste. My MS board did have a nice easy to use key layout and lots of programmability. On this one, only the calculator key can be truly customized the way I had hoped. I’m sure I will get use to the more crowded key layout but will miss some of the “key” features from my old one. All in all, I don’t regret the decision to buy it.

this keyboard is pretty much like it sister (corded Illuminated Keyboard). i still do prefer the corded one but i bought this one for a new experience, but i was kinda disappointed specially comparing to its sister. the keys are not as comfortable and smooth as it sister. also i think the biggest problem Logitech made that made me very angry about this product is that there is NO num lock indicator on the keyboard and that is just unacceptable. except these two problems, this is a decent keyboard. i specially like that there is delete and insert on top of arrow keys, so it really is a full keyboard. overall i like and i do recommend this keyboard to other people.

I'll keep my review rather short and simple.
The keyboard is one of the quietest I've owned to date. I originally thought my Logitech Classic Keyboard 200 (Spillproof designed one I believe it was) was the quietest I've had. This one is on a completely different level of quiet!
Apart from the silence of the keys, the back lighting on the keyboard is impressive in my opinion as well. When fully bright the keys are vibrantly lit even during the day with lights on in the room.
My only gripe is the power toggle switch. I'd prefer to see it on the back of the keyboard or perhaps on the same panel as the USB charging port. So that the face of the keyboard around the edges was completely flush, but that's only a minor aesthetics complaint than function.
I give this keyboard a 5/5 overall. Good job Logitech.

It's sad, this keyboard has almost everything, but this is almost ruined by a few bad decisions.
The thin and silent keys are a pleasure to use, really. The illuminated feature, though not at all the primary reason why I acquired this keyboard, is a nice touch - it's also good to be able to control it from the keyboard itself. And finally, the overall look is quite a success.
But apparently Logitech ignored their common sense and removed the context menu in favour of an awkward programmable key, making it redundant with the launch menu on Windows 7 (or the numerous applications out there that already offer similar quick launch ability). Now the context menu is an awkward combination of this key and another one far in the top row... too bad for those who use it regularly like me.
Also, the top row containing the function key is ridiculously small, one might wonder why. It now contains the Insert key that is usually above the arrow keys, I'm still puzzled as to why it had to move there. Still, this is better than the previous ill trend by Logitech to re-arrange the Home/End/PgUp/PgDn/Ins/Del keys. At least the other keys are safely back at their normal places on this keyboard!
Also to notice the Num lock, Caps lock, Scroll lock status indicators that have been put at the bottom right of the keyboard, where they are barely visible to the user. Another anti-ergonomic decision.
I don't recommend to use the Setpoint software (6.32 at the time of writing), as it will display an invasive pop-up everytime you press Caps lock, Num lock and so on. Apparently this is not configurable, love it or hate it (which seems to be the MO of Logitech these days).
So, in a similar way than their mouse equipped with badly working wheels, Logitech mixes up very good and very bad design principles in their keyboard products. Consider carefully whether this would suit you before buying.

I have been a Logitech consumer for about 8 years. I have owned four of their keyboards, three track balls, a family of mice of various flavors, two cameras and one microphone.
My current lap top, a Dell Inspiron M6500 is linked to the new K800 wireless illuminated keyboard, a wireless M570 track ball, hard wired camera and microphone.
I am flawed at the ease of installation of the new keyboard. Additionally I downloaded the latest software, a slam dunk, and was able to unify the mouse and the keyboard with one USB reciever. Again, this with faultless ease.
Logitech has earned my respect the hard way. By proving they are worthy of it.
By comparison, I have discarded a couple of wireless ....soft brand keyboards as they just did not want to play well with my computers over the long haul. Additionally, they were very susceptible to interference, which proved not to be the case with a Logitech replacement product used in the same environment.
Finally, this new keyboard has such a great feel I just want to keep on typing. Unreal interface between man and machine.
Nice going Logitech.
And next? How about a computor sound system to exceed the Bose system?

After countless search for the perfect keyboard, I have finally find it! I didn't like the k750 mainly due to the ultra low profile and the stiff keystroke.
Pros:
The most comfortable keyboard ever designed.
Soft keys
No lag
nice and evenly illuminated, no bleeding lights
replaceable battery, but I believe it will void the warranty.
Come with Sanyo eneloop
Much better typing experience than the k750
Motion/proximity and light sensors
3 years warranty (logitech have one of the best tech support)
Cons:
For some reason after the first day of use, the battery went dry.
Should have some macro keys
Must use the unifying receiver even if its plugged in.
Why calculator???

I used to like Microsoft keyboards, but had been having issues. One set that I had got abhorrent battery life, and another had the wireless dongle go bad. I decided to look at Logitech. I already had a Marathon M705 mouse that I really liked. The little unifying receiver was also much better than some big dongle. I really like the K800. The keyboard sits on a tray kind of under my desk and I frequently work on my computer with the lights off, so the illumination was great. No more guessing and checking. I also really like the battery. For one thing, it is nice to just be able to plug it in when it needs to be charged rather than needing to swap out batteries. Also, the battery life far exceeds my expectations. The box and website said to expect about 10 days of use before having to plug it in. I have not plugged it in at all and it has been working for almost 35 days! And, the battery is still showing two/thirds level. This is a really good product.

I love the lighted keyboard on my Dell 15” laptop. My wife was complaining about the compactness of the laptop keyboard and how much she likes the full size keyboard. We both love the illuminated keys. So with Valentine’s Day just ahead, I decided to get two of these sleek illuminated keyboards. My desktop keyboard is a Logitech wired internet keyboard that is about 15 years old and works like a charm (the paint on the “A” key is beginning to wear).
I purchased two of these keyboards, one for the wife and one for me. The day they arrived I opened one of them and as I removed the keyboard from its plastic bag two parts fell to the floor between my feet. They belonged to the “+” key of the numbers pad. Sheeesh!!! I tried to snap it back in place and kind of had it for awhile but then it just kept falling out again.
Then my wife and I opened the second keyboard box. I figured the first one was a fluke and this second one would be normal. That was not the case as the second one was worse having two keys, both the “+” key and the “Enter” key on the numbers pad fall to the floor, sheeesh!!! The shipping box and actual keyboard boxes were undamaged.
My wife wants me to send them both back. It is Friday and I will have to wait the weekend before I can call Logitech on Monday. I hate the thought of having to pay the return shipping when this is no fault of myself or the supplier from which I purchased it.
It has some nice features and some deficits. I am fearful these keyboards will no way last long enough to survive its 3 year warranty. I think Logitech may be eating some profits with the poor quality of the keys on this keyboard. Time will only reveal how sturdy this keyboard will prove to be.
I got the impression when reading the literature prior to purchase that my “not so old” Logitech V450 Nano Laser mouse would work with the new unifying USB receiver and was very disappointed to learn that I will have to use two USB receivers on each laptop (one for keyboard and one for the mouse).
All the other stuff will take time to evaluate. I have to see if I can get past the “two new broken right out of the box” K800 keyboards.
Not too happy here. Under these circumstances I could not recommend purchase of this keyboard to anyone until their QC improves.
I was impressed with the programming possibility of being able to reverse the affect of the “FN” key on the function keys. Nice touch Logitech.

The keyboard is fantastic. Although my "Right-Click" button is not where I was used to for the longest time, it is something to get used too. They keys are nice and soft, quiet, and the blacklight isn't eye-popping bright, but it is good for the job it does.
Battery life is phenomenal. I only charged it once after opening it on Christmas, and that was during Christmas break with lots of usage. I let it charge overnight during Christmas, and as of this writing (Jan 12, 2012), the sucker still has 3 full bars.
The only reason I took a hit on the ergonomics is because they moved my "Right-Click" button, which I loved to death. Other than that, this thing is sensational.

I bought this one four or five days ago and WOW it is everything I wanted in a keyboard. Great ergonomics, quiet keystrokes, and backlit perfectly. I can keep a low light in my hoime office and still see the letters and numbers on the keyboard. As you move your hand over the small wrist-rest at the bottom, it lights up magically. It stays lit for just long enough and then the backlighting goes back to sleep again once you stop typing. It's a fairly compact keyboard, too. Only complaint is that I'm used to a larger backspace button, but I'll adjust to the new layout soon. The easy to use "Function" key allows you to use the function keys for other preset things, such as volume control and launching of common priograms like iTunes and the Internet. All in all a VERY neat keyboard. I paired it with a new Logitech mouse because of the shared USB receiver, thus freeing a USB port on my PC. Sweet!

I have had no issues with this device to speak of. I purchased this keyboard specifically for the illumination. At the time, it was the only illuminated wireless keyboard available. Battery life is great for me; I think I had to plug it in maybe once a week, if that.
Logitech support was great. I called after some keys had broken off - the springs mechanism is relatively delicate. They RMAed me a new board with no hassle.
I would not recommend this board for particularly harsh environments (gaming, rowdy kids, users with bad tempers), but it has done well for me in a home office environment with about four hours of daily use.

I have purchased many Logitech keyboards, mice, webcams, and such over the years. I am generally impressed with the quality of Logitech's products.
This keyboard is one of the best I have had. The only down side is the lack of additional, one press, macro buttons(Play, Search, Mail,...). Yes, it does "Have" the macro buttons, but it requires you to hold the FN button to activate them.
Personally, I utilize a lot of macro mapped buttons while writing programs. (for build, replace, run, debug, step, comment out,...) If I must hold down FN to use the macro buttons, I might as well just use a different standard key-press like CTRL-W or ALT-F9...(mind you I only used Linux, almost without GNU, so I can map whatever key-press I want to anything)
But, considering all of the other amazing features, and the keyboard's high quality construction, I will make it work and maybe get, say - a gamer button pad or something to replace the lost macro buttons. OH, and if you were wondering how Logitech implemented the backlight, I can say they did it the correct way USING an ambient light sensor, manual dimmer control, motion wake-up, and more ... Not the crummy on-off switchable way. AGAIN, let me re-iterate, this is an outstanding keyboard!
To Logitech,
Thank you for this high quality keyboard, keep up the great work.

This keyboard is luxury looking and really does what it should. The illumination that can be set in 4 steps is a really good feature. The wireless works like it should. The battery lasts something more then a week (10 days declared by logitech is real). I am using it for almost a year now and no big problems so far (8 hours of office work a day). Ok, and here some cons: The glossy finish between the keys is not very practical (fingerprints visible) Not a big deal though. I also would be very happy if the keyboard remembered the setting of lighting after turning it off (it is set to the same ligting level every time I turn it on) - also not a big deal. What i really dont like about it is that the finish of the keys is kinda cheap (as opposed to the overall luxury looks.) The keys (especially spacebar) started to have glossy (like worn out) finish after less than a month of using it. I am really surprised that nobody was complaining about this. I own two of these and both look the same. And it kind of destroys the whole luxury feel of the product. However the function is grreat and would probably buy it again.

I have been using this keyboard for 3 months at an average of 8 hours a day. Overall, this keyboard is great. The physical qualities are nice and sleek. The keys are soft on the touch and the back-lighting is absolutely beautiful.
However, I have two gripes with the firmware programmed on this keyboard. First: the sensitivity of the automatic lighting is too high. If I do not manually turn it off, the keys sometimes light up randomly when don't touch it while I watch a movie. Second: the media function keys are useless if you use iTunes. The keys register when pressed but don't do anything.
These are seem to be simple changes that can be hopefully be updated.
