i can't hear myself think.... =]

Date:April 11, 2013
i just recieved my set of z623's in the mail and as much as i would love to write a well thought out review.... i simply cannot. they are so wonderfully loud and crisp that i cant stop long enough to write any more.. so in my opinion they are the best speakers out of any 2.1 speakers. and they still fit comfortably on any desk setup.

Not As Good As Z2300

Date:April 7, 2013
SUBWOOFER COMPARISON
Z-2300: The subwoofer is huge, in every sense of the word. The behemoth measures 11” (H) X 11” (W) X 15” (D), and its output could both rattle the paint off your walls & take the wind out of your lungs at the same time. The enclosure is very deep, which is great from an acoustical performance viewpoint. The subwoofer weighs 12 kilograms and is a back breaker for sure.
Actually, this subwoofer was designed for Z-560 way back in the year 2000. Z-560 was the first THX certified multimedia speaker system from Logitech and was a big gamble at that time. Nobody was quite sure how the market will react in accepting a high end computer speaker from this unknown brand. But it seems that the gamble finally paid off and ever since this Holy Grail subwoofer have been used in their THX certified speaker systems line up for the past decade as below:
Z-560 [first THX certified 4.1 system, launched in the year 2000]
Z-680 [first THX certified 5.1 system, launched in the year 2002]
Z-2200 [first THX certified 2.1 system, launched in the year 2003]
Z-2300 [second THX certified 2.1 system, with minor updations on Z-2200 launched in the year 2004]
There is a department in Logitech that exclusively deals with audio products and are better known as Logitech Sound Central. The link to the website is provided here:Logitech Sound Central
They state: “We don’t simply buy parts off the shelf. We laser tune different types of drivers. We modify the shapes, experiment with materials, and use digital components to improve sound quality. Our goal is to deliver fidelity as close to the original sound as possible.”
Logitech Sound Central testing the bass driver of Z-5500
The subwoofer also houses a patented “U” shaped exponentially increasing bass reflex port to produce distortion free deep and rich bass experience. The enclosure is very deep, which is obviously good from an acoustical standpoint.
Z623: The Z623’s subwoofer is two thirds the size of Z-2300. It measures 12” (H) X 11” (W) X 10.5” (D). Logitech kept the height & width almost identical but the depth of the box was drastically reduced by near 5 inches. From performance aspect this can never be considered a positive, since at least for subwoofers the simple theory of “The Bigger the Better” hold absolutely true.
From a technical point of view, Z-623 does not need a subwoofer enclosure as big as Z-2300 since the bass driver is an inch smaller in diameter measuring 7 inches and thus requiring a lot less volume of air inside the enclosure. But in return, Z-623 subwoofer will be much less powerful as compared to Z-2300. I think the 7 inch bass driver have a rated input power of 50W RMS if you consider the 8 inch bass driver of Z-2300 was rated 80W RMS.
What I found amusing is that Logitech states this 7 inch bass driver can is capable to handle 130W RMS of power from the amplifier when the 8 inch bass driver of Z-2300 was always on overdrive mode handling its 120W RMS.
Also, the Z-623 subwoofer is nearly 4 kilograms lighter than Z-2300 sub. Where does this 4 Kilos go? Just vanished? Or is this is due to a smaller bass driver with a smaller magnet being enclosed in a smaller subwoofer enclosure with a thinner wall thickness than that of Z-2300?

Best Bang For Buck 2.1

Date:February 17, 2013
Overall, I would say that this is the best 2.1 system I've ever used. Sound is very detailed and the bass is monstrous. Not two things I would expect from something at this price point. It is sound that you can feel. My only complaint is the style. These speakers are plain and ugly but those are not two things I care about; I care only about performance and the Logitech Z623 delivers that

Go Logitech!!

Date:February 3, 2013
To start, I am very happy with this speaker system in the six months that I've owned it. Im a little new to logitech speakers so i don't know how great the past speaker systems were (counting the z-2300 system). With that being said I'm not sure what to expect performance wise but i am very happy with the 623 as well as my old 313s.
Appearance-
Most of the logitech systems i have seen usually have a sleek design. The z-623 isn't the most attractive system that i have seen but its still very presentable. I don't really have more to say about looks.
Design-
This system seems very solid and well constructed. One of the things that concerns me a little is the power button. Feels very loose and you can wiggle it.
All of your controls are on the right speaker (I know some people miss the wired control pod on the z-2300 but to me its one wire less to get in my way).
Speaking of wires, have you seen the wire for the right speaker...Huge! (Due to the controls and the audio in and headphone ports)
There are three inputs with which you can hook up various devices (Two 3.5mm ports for hooking up computers and music playing devices)
One is located on the right speaker and the other located on the amplifier board on the back of the subwoofer.
The other input is the RCA ports (the red and white plugs) which is also located on the back of the subwoofer.
A double ended 3.5mm jack DOES come with the system
Sound quality-
Note that these are COMPUTER SPEAKERS so don't expect audiophile quality sound.
Both satellites have one 2.5 inch driver with a aluminum? phase plug, which I don't know how much of an impact it has on sound quality. They sound ok but not great.
There are NO TWEETERS. I don't really care about that.
The Subwoofer hits pretty hard for 7 inches.
Not sure of the frequency response. I never saw that on the spec. sheet but they seem to go fairly low. ( the z2300 went down to 35hz)
The subwoofer is OMNIDIRECTIONAL meaning that you should feel the impact of the bass in all directions no matter how you have the system positioned.
Loudness-
Arguments regarding the power of this system is very confusing.
Some say 200watts rms.
Some say 95watts rms, 200 watts peak.
The spec sheet i got says 200watts (130 for the sub and 35x2 for the satellites)
Regardless this system can get pretty loud.
My normal listening conditions-
-Up to full volume from audio source
-1/3 volume on the system
-1/2 bass volume
Fills up my house with sound. I do not see the need to turn it up any louder than that.
So in the end I could recommend this system if you want a powerful speaker system and a logitech speaker system.... Get these.

Great sound, questionable quality

Date:January 28, 2013
I first purchased these speakers in January of 2011. They have amazing sound and loud bass. The mids and highs are great. The issue I had with the speakers is the power button seems flimsy. My power LED started blinking and the sound became fuzzy and distorted. There was obviously an issue with the contact of the power button. I went to the store and returned them for new ones. I am happy with these speakers but I hope this pair lasts longer.

Not Bad

Date:January 25, 2013
I have had this unit for a while now. Compact with great, clear sound from the satellites and monster bass from a small sub. Great for small areas. I have been happy with this unit but have noticed for a while a constant buzz in the background both during playback and whilst not playing. All in all has served me well though.

These speakers are so good I bought a second pair to just have for keeps. I would not recommend anyone spending hundreds of dollars on a receiver w/speakers at all. Just grab a nice LED TV, hooks these up and your good to go. I hope maybe a 5.1 release is coming soon. :-)

Date:December 3, 2012
cant say enough about these. bass is tight and hits every note without a problem, same with the satellites. i listen to mostly electro/dub and i have yet to find a song these cant kill. anytime we have a bunch of people over these migrate to the living room and everyone loves them. had them for over a year and still love them. the other people in my apartment complex might not agree, but i got one of those anti-vibration pads and havent had any complaints in a while. not looking to get rid of these anytime soon, unless logitech comes out with something even more impressive. ill product guys, really killed it with these.

WHAT

Date:November 12, 2012
Can't explain how much I love these speakers. Moved out a few weeks ago and got a noise complaint the second day I was in the building. Roommate has a $300 Bose system, and we actually like these better. Whenever we have people over and decided to jam out, everyone crams into my room just because the speakers are on point and the sub is so crispy. trying to convince my other roommate to invest in a set, seriously makes listening to music so much more enjoyable. Had these for a year in Jan, don't think Im going to get rid of them anytime soon. If anything I would try and have everyone pitch in for a even nastier Z906 setup, heard many good things about it and am defiantly one of the Logitech faithful thanks to these.

AMAZING

Date:October 23, 2012
I had recently gotten these for my birthday and am REALLY IMPRESSED. I wanted the z623s because i recently bought the z313 system and thought i could use something with more power and better bass. I was wanting the z523s but decided to just jump straight to Logitech's high-end 2.1 system. I really couldn't ask for more with these. All the controls are conveniently located on the right speaker. You have the RCA inputs for connecting DVD, video game systems, my satellite receiver, etc. and then the two 3.5mm inputs for plugging in mp3 players, laptops, etc. The bass is really accurate and fills my bedroom even at a low setting. As well as the satellite speakers, however they could use tweeters for more high end sound. overall I love this system. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great bass!

Date:October 19, 2012
Now the one great thing i love about this product is the bass, its so perfect. But the only problem i got hit with is the muddy satalites, it wasnt as CRISP as i wanted it to be, but thankfully i have an equalizer so I was able to make it sound extremely crisp and clear, so now it sounds better then bose like a billion times better because the bass is more stronger and deeper, but if logitech could have done something with the speakers to make it crisp out of the box and extend the lower frequencies i think it would have been even bettter but all in all Great product PLEASE ON YOUR THX SYSTESM PUT TWEETERS its what helps give the full frequency effects

Good quality for the money but NOT the Z-2300 set

Date:October 16, 2012
I completely agree with "Jordan" the previous reviewer. We currently have the Logitech Z-2300 speaker set which we love and when we saw this newer model come out of these were more than pleased to purchase. We expected some improvements on the overall set up and the sound quality to stay just as great if not better. However, in the end we still love our older model better. In regards to the new one, Pros: the volume, power, and bass controls are now on the unit itself which eliminates the need for having the extra plug in for just these controls like the last model. Cons: the overall sound quality is not as good as the older model. Unfortunately, when you turn the bass up you cannot turn the volume up as much without causing distortion. It almost seems the more you turn the voume up, it still turns the bass up a bit with it causing additional distortion and not as much flexibility with a custom sound. The treble sound also seems to keep going up so it's hard to balance out the bass/treble sound overall. On our older model we could turn the volume up past the halfway point without any issue and these newer speakers seem to max out at the halfway point. Yes, you can turn the bass down but then it seems like you hear all the front noise as yelling and none of the background sounds or music to balance it out. I wish they would've stayed with the sound quality of the older model or at least put a treble and bass control on the unit so it was more customizable. I still gave the product 4 stars because overall the speakers are still good speakers for the price and the improvements they did make the set up and overall look are good. If you are looking for a good set up of speakers that work well for music, movies, and other uses you definitely won't go wrong buying these. Logitech makes great products so durabilty and quality still does not lack. However, if you happen to have the older model and are expecting the same sound quality you may be slightly disappointed. We did keep the new speakers and use them in our downstairs office, we actually kept the older model upstairs as our main unit as we still feel these are better for what we use them for. Hopefully Logitech will see some of these reviews and combine the new look with the original sound quality of the Z-2300 model. People must really love the older model because I looked at buying another set of those and they have it on Amazon for almost $1500.00 and a few on eBay for way more than what we originally paid for them.

Sitting here so disappointed after sending in a broken pair of z2300s and receiving these z623s....there is no comparison. definitely don't make them like they used to. hardly any bass compared to the old model. it's sad they couldn't maintain the quality of the old system. poor sounding speakers overall.

No hesitation

Date:September 25, 2012
I would recommend this to anyone who loves movies, games and music. As you can maximize your listening pleasure with this unit. 1 set of this is enough to have a decent sound around our living room. With very responsive low frequency and high volume, this speaker rocks. This even beat the Beats of my friend. My only comment is the short wire that connects the satellite to the sub.
I am also thinking to give a z506 a try to upgrade then move this inside my room. I would just like to experience the 5.1 it produce.
Because I believe in logitech truly delivers right product at the right price.

Date:September 18, 2012
This are as far as i know, the best speakers i ever had. I am a person who really cares a lot about audio quality, i always hear music all days and i found this audio quality so attractive and incredible!! Together with the THX certification, it takes the sound quality to another level... from a grade from 1 to 10, would give an 11, i really love this speakers and youll love them too!!

Hugely disappointed

Date:September 1, 2012
Reading the reviews convinced me to purchase Z623 but I can't believe how poor the performance is. I am investigating a suitable sound card that will improve the sound quality. Tinny sound compared to my 30 year old Altec Lansing ACS48 speakers. Not an audiophile but I know rich quality sound when I hear it and these speakers are little better than the $15 junk I bought for my laptop.
Logitech is generally a great name but for now these speakers don't make the grade.
