i have only one problem with this thing, the quality is fine, not amazing. the feel is ok too, but when one takes a look at other products in its range and an even closer look at the price tag, most other problems get wiped of the windscreen like a smooshed bug. to get back to my only problem, the wire, it looks and feels like its going to break by me touching it! but im just trusting in the 2 YEAR GUARANTEE. logitech is feeling confident of its cheap and brilliant product. so yes you should not, i repeat NOT! buy a stupid Xbox controller for double the price when windows goes and views the things as an Xbox controller anyway.

I believe I bought this over a year ago and at the time, it was a right pain to figure out. The software had a problem and I had to download a newer version after spending my time contacting Logitech about it. It does work as a plug and play device with some programs, especially emulators which is what I mainly use it for. What surprises me is the consistent price. This gamepad can still be found for at Best Buy for about 25 bucks plus tax.
I do wish it had more features but I honestly can't complain too much. I'm sure there are areas in which it is not good. But I'm playing mostly older games, rather than newer, more sophisticated games. It has held up to it's name.

I really loved the fact that I could plug in my Logitech f310, not install anything(!), and play! When I did have the need to install, that part was a breeze. Mapping MOST games is really easy, too, but some companies want you to use a certain product and make it more difficult. My idea is to include a feature where the user can either create a word doc with the control map(ex: W=up, S=down, etc) OR open the user manual (pc), and copy&paste the map to a NEW FEATURE that recognizes this and maps to the controller accordingly. Now THAT is ease of use!
Also, my hands get hot while playing. Maybe you can make a controller with a cooling fan?

I use this controller with a lot of emulators with great success. It works fantastically on both my mac and PC (Lion and 7, respectively), and the setup is utterly painless–there wasn't any, for the applications I'm using. The joysticks haven't gotten loose, and everything is still working great after at least a month of frequent use.
It's designed for hands smaller than mine (I have huge hands), but that doesn't hinder it enough for me to care.
Regarding deadzones: The emulators I'm using let me set the deadzone to zero, so I believe any problems you have with this are because of your application, not the hardware.
I'd definitely recommend this to a friend.

Face it, you're not going to get the greatest gamepad on the market for USD $24.99.
The F310 is a rugged little critter and works perfectly well for most games. But no, you can't use it in place of a mouse. It lacks the precision engineering for that.
The reason I'm happy with it is that, unlike the wireless F710 I bought recently, it works fine on both the PC and the Intel Mac Pro here, and on the Mac it works fine in both OS X Lion and Windows 7. The F710 was dead in the water on the Mac in either operating system. So back it went to the gamepad store in a tacky cardboard box, and the F310 came home with me instead. End of story, now we're living happily ever after.

Multiple reviews have mentioned the problems this controller has with its analog sticks- namely, about half of the sticks' possible motion is covered in dead zone, making precise motions impossible. What not many have mentioned is that the D-Pad has accuracy issues. When you hit a cardinal direction, there's a very good chance that it will actually read 45 degrees off from the direction you're actually holding, which makes it completely unusable for any game that requires directions other than the four cardinal directions.

Worked right out of the box on Windows 7, just plug and play with both XInput and DirectInput. XInput works just like an XBox 360 controller. The controller I got had a wobbly/loose Dpad that felt rather cheap, but otherwise did the job. A/B/X/Y buttons feel really solid and respond nicely, the shoulder buttons are a bit different from the old PSX controllers in that they're really clicky. The triggers work fine not amazing, but not bad either. They are single axis just like Xbox 360 controllers. Control sticks are smooth, but have a non-linear response for the first few millimeters of movement. The control stick buttons click rather cheaply, but otherwise work. There isn't any jitter with the analog components and theres no problem with pressing all the buttons at once. Build quality feels solid except for the D-pad.
Overall, pretty good for the price.

I would not get this controler, I have had it for a while and try it with many games. The movment of the sticks is is inconsistant and jerky. I have spent hours trying to configure the gamepad with the softwear. The sticks lag at times or dont respond at all. This game controler has to be the worst i have ever used. No smoth at all. Garbage.

This Logitech F310 may be a good choice for playing old/retro games, but when it comes for recent games, the sticks and the triggers fail quite a lot.
When i say that they fail, it's because both triggers are quite heavy to press, and, those 2 triggers uses only ONE axis! Sorry Logitech, but if you do quite great periphals, specially for gaming, you should know from other brands that it's actually possible a gamepad having 6 axis (4 for the two sticks, and other 2 for each trigger!). You quite failed at not putting independent Axis in each trigger. And that it's quite needed specially for racing games, because there are moments when you need to both acelerate and brake.
Now about the sticks. The 2 sticks feels good, and they are soft, but i don't like something about them. It's the Hardware Deadzone! I can't believe that those sticks aren't precise and sensitive in milimeters for moving! If i just move just a tiny bit of the stick, it doesn't make an action at all! For the both sticks! We need more precise & sensitive sticks for games, and not this "deadzone" that those sticks have them enbuted (even if you set 0% of deadzone in a game, both in DirectInput & XInput). Also, i can't believe that in DirectInput mode, the Triggers aren't analogic anymore, and act like a normal R2/L2 from the Playstation One & 2.
This gamepad is good, but doesn't satisfy that much if you want precise controlling in your games.
I've been using a ThrustMaster Dual trigger 3-in-1 for years (until it died lol), and it NEVER, but NEVER in my WHOLE minutes lost in games, it NEVER disappointed or failed at me. It was always precise, and i had perfect controls on the game. Specially the Triggers that has independent axis.
Until i bought this F310, i felt quite disappointed with this gamepad for Racing games (which is the genre i mostly play)
Sorry Logitech, but you need to work quite a lot and improve a LOT with the analogics on this gamepad.

Pros:
Design is very familiar
Good for FPS
Good for PS2/3 maniacs
Compatible with past games
Best D-Pad available so far
Familiar face buttons A,B,X,Y
Fully customizable
Can live up to other controllers
Cord is long enough to keep you towards the screen
Easy to set up
Could live for a long time
Cons:
Triggers feel a little bulky
Profile Software can be difficult for some
Overall:
This controller is great for those who have used PS2/3 and 360 controllers, and it works great as a crossover. So far, it has the best D-Pad available and it's very familiar. The triggers can feel bulky at times and the software can be confusing at first, but this controller works great for a lot of gamers looking for a cheaper solution.

Logitech is a trusted brand, the controller is very good! Its the perfect combination between the XBOX360 controller and the PS3 controller... Very good purchase, i Recommend to everyone who play games on the PC, its easy to use, just plug it, turn the switch to the X behind the product and you're ready to go!
It worked very well on all my games, GTA IV, Left 4 Dead, Super Meat Boy, Flatout, etc...

Bought to replace a Logitech Dual Action that finally died after years of use. Works flawlessly. I have no issues using it with Vista 64bit or Windows 7 64bit. It is fantastic! I have NO idea why anyone is giving it low ratings ujnless they are trying to use it in the wrong mode. The switch on the bottom has to be set to directinputmode to work with older games or issues WILL arise! The same goes for newer games that are Xinput. Trying to use it in the wrong mode for a game WILL lead to great amounts of frustration! That glitch aside...its one of the best controllers Ive ever owned for PC

I purchased this controller for playing old arcade games on my PC as an upgrade from a digital controller (I figured analog would work better for some games). It works very well with many games running on the MAME emulator, it's imperfect for trackball & lightgun-based games but still will play most other games very well. Setup is a little complicated, it's not quite plug-and-play but you don't need to fully install the included software to get going. The controls are quite responsive and since it resembles an Xbox 360 or PS2/3 controller it's quite comfortable and easy to use. The controller length is good as well.
I don't know how good it is for the more recent PC games and for MMORPG play, but if like me you just want to play the classic arcade games on your PC this controller does the job and does it well.

I am a very hard core gamer and although i dont play as much on computers rather than consoles this is a very good buy for new gamers and old gamers as well. the response of the controller is very good and overall a very decent buy. the only problem is the design which is not that much of a big deal. or maybe i will adjust in a few days. the game pad makes simulation racing very realistic as well as fps games. i have played dirt 2, formula one 2010 and call of duty black ops and a very good result on all of them. i would rate this in top ten of the best game pads. go buy it now dont see any other game pads in this price range. (windows 7 no problems at all and not much mapping needed)

I bought this Pad today, when I 1st open it felt very comfortable like ps2 control pad and the buttons remind me of a X-box controler. when I installed it had a lil prob but remember u gotta move that switch on the bottom and it should pick up. but other than that really havent had much probs with it very nice as far as controls for games go I havent tryed out the other features yet but it works good with my games and it feels good on the hands. so that is pretty much it I would Recommend it to a friend. but just make sure u move that switch on the bottom ;)
