Can't live without it
Date:July 26, 2012
I have the original version, modded with the modwright tube output stage. Total spent was almost $4K.
No regrets, best audio purchase I ever made.
My Audiomeca Mephisto transport now sits silent gathering dust.

Best network player on the planet !
Date:June 25, 2012
I purchased the SE model. Over the past 30 years the thing that breaks down first are the moving parts of a component. That and the fact that the available ones with the front panel knob are way over priced ($2500 ? come on man ! ). Good luck selling those guys. The SE model is excellent. Best thing since sliced bread. I already had two duets with controllers. The comtrollers work just fine with the transporter. The sound from the transporter is better than the duet. So clean, so pure, so natural. If anyone is having second thoughts about the SE model because the transnav knob is omitted, don"t. You ain"t missing nothing. Like i said the first things to go bad are usually the moving parts ( knobs, drive moters, belts, etc...). The transporter SE has none of these moving parts. You will not be disapointed with the sound of internet radio or music from your library. My system is built around marantz top of the line preamp and amp. (AV8003 & MM8003 ). Did not buy the marantz network player. Although it would match appearance wise I beleive the transporter is the better network player. Besides the AV8003 has a network player built into it. The transporter is something special. The people that own one know what i mean. those that don"t, will after they hear it. The transporter is by far the best network player available today weather it has the transnav knob on the front of it or not. Either model is excellent. Buy it !

The real deal
Date:April 27, 2012
I have the original Transporter (with the dial). Not that I ever used it. Save the $800 and you get the SE without the dial. Its a bargain. Great unit. Fantastic sound feeding my tube pre and Emotiva amp with Magnepan MMG's. In my opinion the wifi/ethernet protocol for getting the bits from the laptop to the server is the way to go. For comparison, the sound from the Transporter was noticeably tighter, cleaner, and more natural than the Rega Apollo that it replaced. Not sure I will ever replace it.

Excellent sound, musical - wish for USB...
Date:April 21, 2012
I've had a Transporter for years, so many years I can't remember. (Long ago enough that it was hard to find info about it, and the community of users was VERY small.) It's still our main radio player (we live too far away from the couple of stations we like). As I've gotten more into high def music - 24 bit, 88 and 96khz - playing over the wireless network doesn't work as well. Dropouts here and there, probably because my wife and I do a lot of high bandwidth things on our computers. And the Transporter doesn't have USB, so I've been trying out DACs.
It's been an unhappy experience. The Transporter is every bit as accurate as any of the DACs I've tried (staying under $2000...) and SOUNDS BETTER. It's got better balance, and makes live music sound live, brings out the detail in studio recordings. Many DACs emphasize the flaws in less than stellar masterings, but the Transporter doesn't. Absolutely fantastic sound stage. (The rest of my audio system is Gradient Revolution speakers, Krell pre-amps and amps.)
I've compared it to a few DACs I borrowed that are in the $4000 an up range, and the Transporter sounded better. Less dry, less eccentric, and it makes older recordings (lots of mastering in the 60s, 70s, and 80s is pretty poor) sound as good as newer ones. True with classical, jazz, folk, alternative, electronica.
It's musical. Short and sweet, simple way to say it.
I wish, wish, wish it had a USB connection. My media server is 10 feet away, I'd like a simpler setup, and right now I've got both a DAC and the Transporter. And, the Transporter, like many DACs below the $4000 mark, lacks native 88khz.
The day I hear there's a new Transporter, with the same emphasis on musicality, with a USB input, and 88khz native - I will order and replace my ancient Transporter. THAT VERY DAY.
But if those things aren't important to you, this is one heck of a component to add to your system.
It makes music sound like music.
There's something so right about that.

I need no other source for high fidelity music!
Date:March 20, 2012
This is the best purchase I ever made for my McIntosh system. It's so good that I sold off my MR85 tuner and my MCD300 CD player. I neither need nor want any other source for music. This is a great device at a reasonable price point. Go for it.

Excellent addition to hi resolution audio system
Date:December 3, 2011
My Transporter SE has been delivering superior sound into my system for about a year now and i have yet to discover many faults with it. Set up was extremely simple with step by step prompts and easy integration into my analog system. The sound is nothing short of excellent & rivals that of my analog front end (Sota Star Sapphire turn table w Van Den Hul MC cartridge). My speakers (magnaplanar) are pretty revealing and when SACD flacs are shot through the Transporter, the experience is amazing.

Fabulous
Date:April 21, 2011
I've dabbled in network streaming to the big rig in the living room, but this really takes the cake. The unit almost set itself up without assistance, took about 5 minutes to get sound out. And it's a great sound, very crisp, very detailed, and far superior to my old Cal Audio DX-2 CD or newer Pioneer Elite players. I have much to learn about the Server software and simplifiying my Library structure, but I'm not worried - everything is well thought out and rational.
System: Solioloquy 5.3 speakers; Jolida 102 b integrated amp, about to be upgraded to a Jolida 801 s integrated; Transporter SE; HP Media Smart Server, 3Tb so far.

Love it
Date:February 27, 2011
I've had my Transporter for over a year and a half now and simply love it. It sounds amazing and integrates seamlessly with my existing stereo system. The ONLY reason that this thing does not get 5 stars across the board is due to the Squeezebox software. Squeezebox just needs a total revamp from some talented programmers to make it match the overall quality of the Transporter. It's just too quirky and awkward.

Love this Transporter
Date:February 19, 2011
The Transporter is a fabulous performer that allows you to play your music library and stream internet audio. It replaces your CD player and tuner. The free server software allows you to rip your CDs and have instant access to your whole music library. It even integrates with your iTunes library and playlists seamlessly. It comes with a very useful remote and you can also add the fancier Sqeezebox remote controller which includes a color screen to help you select tunes.
I have a high-end system where sound quality is essential to me. Really fine systems require each piece to work flawlessly. I have auditioned many pieces and the sound of this unit rivals the very best regardless of cost. In my view, the Transporter is one of the best audiophile bargains available anywhere.
