Practical accessory / great concept well executed

Date:February 2, 2012
The one activity on a tablet that I don't particularly care for it's typing. It's not so bothersome in portrait mode with the scaled down virtual keyboard (one or two finger tap-typing) but the landscape mode keyboard is too large to type this way comfortably and, without some form of physical index and tactile response (vibration not skin's it for me), typing with both hands doesn't work very well for me. This is a fairly insignificant issue for me though. I have generally kept my typing on the tablet to short emails and posts, text field entry, etc.
I saw this product on the shelf at a local department store and it piqued my interest. I grabbed my phone and checked for product reviews online. Reviews seemed to be all over the map - some love it, some hate it. Issues mentioned ranged from poor fit around the tablet, connectivity issues, poor response from space bar. Some folks mentioned no issues whatsoever.
My primary concern after reading online reviews was proper fit around the tablets edges (what good is a cover if it doesn't fit). The store was willing to open the package and allow me to check for proper fit, pair the tab with the keyboard, and check function. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fit was ideal for its intended purpose as a cover. It holds firm to the edges and leaves full access to buttons, ports, and speakers and it's easy to put them together and to separate them. It seems to do a great job in protecting the screen.
Function testing also went well. Pairing the keyboard to the tab was easy and intuitive. All keys were consistent in weight and tactile feedback and all functioned as intended without issue.
I happened to have a gift card for this store in my tablet sleeve which would leave my out of pocket cost for this item at $16.50 after card redemption and sales tax. At this price I could not think of a single reason to walk away from it. So home it went with me.
I find myself using my tablet for many productive tasks for which I would not have otherwise employed it (Word docs, spreadsheets, writing script, longer email messages, etc. My 'primarily for leisure use' tablet is suddenly going to work as well, and it's working out well as a productive tool.
I would definitely reccommend this product to friend and family who own a compatible tablet. It appears as though the fittment issues may have been resolved at this point and I personally find the keyboard layout easy to use.
For those looking for a portable keyboard for their tablet this one is worth your consideration.

So simple, yet brilliant

They must have fixed the issue with the size of the case, mine fits perfectly secure.
I love the island keys, can type as fast as I do on a full-sized kyboard. Doesn't add that much weight. I was suprised at how light it was. I was expecting it to be much heavier.
Overall, great product!

KEYBOARD WAS RECEIVED AND WAS VERY POOR QUALITY. NOT WORTH THE MONEY THAT WAS PAID. TABLET DIDN'T FIT IN CASE SECURELY. HAD TO BEND OPEN SIDES TO MAKE IT FIT. WASTE OF MONEY. RETURNED IMMEDIATELY FOR REFUND.

I pre-ordered this item a while back. The package came mangled and destroyed. I called Digital River (the people that run the logitech store) and they told me to destroy the contents after giving me a refund. The damaged merchandise turned out to be a blessing in disguise and I am passing on the good karma for you guys thinking to purchase this product.
First and foremost, this product will not protect your Galaxy Tab. The case has a solid exterior shell, but it definitely will not protect anything it holds against UPS handling.
It is worth mentioning that the keyboard is very slim. I could definitely see myself purchasing the keyboard and stand mechanism without the inferior quality outer housing.
I can't comment much on the use case where the galaxy tab would be face down on the case since the metal enclosure is warped beyond repair. I actually ended up scratching the paint off my tab trying to get the case to fit. It is worth noting that the metal cover of this case, in my opinion, does not match well with the back of my galaxy tab (Grey).
Imagine gluing a keyboard into a 10in diagonal baking pan that does not have smooth edges. What you get is this keyboard case.
That being said, if you have a small toaster oven, this case may prove to be useful.

Good, but overshadowed by its flaws.

Date:September 12, 2011
I just received one of these in the mail and noticed several quirks in the first few minutes of use.
The main problem is with the space bar. Only about a quarter of the space bar actually works when you press down at regular pressure: the applied pressure isn't evenly distributed across the key/button, and when you press down near the edges it does not respond. I constantly have to go back and retype words because the space bar does not respond unless pressed directly in the center or pushed extremely intently at the edges.
The second problem is the size. I have small hands, but I still feel extremely uncomfortable typing on this keyboard. It might be because I am constantly adjusting my hand to try to press the direct center of the space bar, but it's just an overall poor typing experience. The backspace, being the same size as every other button, is extremely easy to miss.
The third problem is the metallic material: it has as much friction as a piece of paper. You can find a surface that it works well on, but on most typing surfaces (solid wood, metal, etc.) it slips enough to bother you. I guess adding some weight will increase the friction force, but as it is, it is kind of annoying to use.
Pros:
Android-specific buttons
Light, solid build
Charged with USB
If not for the space bar, the keyboard would be decent.
Minimalistic design
Easy to pair.
